Story
From his foster: “Ralphie – Your Adventure Co-Star1 year old | 48 lbs | Australian Shepherd MixRalphie is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds and wants to truly be part of your life. He’s intelligent, expressive, and athletic — a classic working-breed mix who thrives when he has structure, purpose, and connection. At one year old, and still figuring out the world, he can be sensitive in new situations and has shown some fear-based reactivity in the past. The good news? With structure and training, he has been making wonderful progress and building confidence every single day. He is looking for experienced, steady leadership to help him continue that upward trajectory. He would do best in:• An adult-only home (no young children)• An active household that enjoys walks, hikes, and enrichment• A secure yard (he’s athletic and curious!)• A home with breed experience and commitment to continued training    ##2622392##

Story
Turtle is a bright, affectionate young dog who forms deep bonds with his people and thrives on connection, structure, and shared adventures. At home, he is playful, loyal, and happiest when learning new things or spending quiet time with his favorite humans. He loves long decompression walks in peaceful places where he can explore at his own pace. Turtle is a sensitive soul who feels safest in calm, predictable environments. Like many intelligent dogs, he can become overwhelmed by busy settings or unfamiliar situations and may bark or react when unsure. Because of this, he is looking for an experienced, adult-only home with someone who enjoys working with thoughtful, emotionally complex dogs and uses force-free methods. He has food sensitivities (no chicken or beef) and does best on a salmon-based diet. Turtle has received extensive professional support and has a strong foundation; he simply needs the right environment and handler to continue building confidence.

Meet Oliver — a beautiful Blue Merle Mini Aussie with a sensitive soul and a heart that’s worth the wait. Oliver can be very shy when meeting new people and needs a patient adopter who will allow him the time and space to build trust at his own pace. Fast introductions and busy environments can feel overwhelming for him, but with kindness, consistency, and understanding, Oliver blossoms into an incredibly loyal and loving companion.Oliver is looking for a calm, predictable home where he can feel safe and secure. He would do best with gentle older children or, ideally, an adult-only home that can respect his sensitive nature. Once he bonds with his people, he forms deep connections and loves being close to those he trusts.Like many Aussies, Oliver enjoys regular exercise and mental enrichment to help keep him happy and balanced. Because he has never been properly socialized with other dogs, he would do best as the only dog in the home where he can have all the attention and avoid stressful interactions.Oliver may take a little extra time to open his heart, but for the right person, the bond you build with him will be incredibly special and rewarding. If you are interested in meeting Oliver, the shelter is open Monday through Saturday, 11 am – 6 pm, Sunday 11 am-4 pm (Summer Hours). If you’d like to schedule an appointment, check out the pets’ profile on our website at newberganimals.com to fill out an application and email it to frontdesk@newberganimals.com.Due to COVID-19, we are currently only open by appointment. Story
Arlo is his name and his gentle eyes match his heart perfectly! Arlo is currently fostered in a loving home with three kids (ages 4–12), and his daily routine reads like a cozy family story. Mornings start with breakfast and a short walk to the bus stop with the kids, followed by backyard zoomies and toy time with his small dog buddy. Then it’s nap time… until the kids come home and it’s right back to play, connection, and winding down together for the evening. He is house and crate trained, knows the rhythm of home life, and truly thrives when he knows where his people are. Go watch Arlo on YouTube, then come right back to read more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw53vBp1SkA Arlo is estimated to be 1 year old, he weighs 48 lbs and may be a husky/shepherd mix but of course, he is a rescue so we cannot guarantee age or breed. Arlo’s foster has had a wonderful front row seat to the Arlo show and shared so much about him. We lovingly call him a “slow bloom, big reward” kind of dog. He can be shy when meeting new people and may hang back at first, taking everything in from a safe distance and in these moments you see just how adoring and devoted he is. This is when he looks to his person for reassurance while he figures things out. But with a little time, a little patience, and a steady routine… on the other side you have the sweetest, most devoted boy who just wants to be close to you. One thing that helps Arlo feel his best is having a canine buddy, especially a smaller dog. He absolutely lights up around his little foster sibling, following along, playing, and gaining confidence just by having that companionship. Bigger dogs can feel a bit overwhelming for him right now, so a home with a smaller, friendly dog or a calm, easygoing larger dog (with a thoughtful introduction and decompression time) would be ideal. Arlo would feel most comfortable in a home with a yard where he can settle in and build confidence at his own pace. Walks in busy or unfamiliar places can feel like a lot for him right now, but he’s a smart, trainable boy who just needs time, consistency, and someone willing to show him the world can be a safe and gentle place. If you’ve ever loved a shy dog, you already know… there is something incredibly special about earning their trust. Arlo isn’t trying to be everyone’s dog. He’s waiting to be someone’s dog. And when he is, it’s the kind of bond that feels steady and true. Are you Arlo’s person? Apply today and welcome home a gentle family boy who just might become your favorite little shadow. https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/697b7a35063e5fe841006850 Questions? Story
We are genuinely not sure how Jesse Bear is a real dog and not a living, breathing teddy bear someone accidentally brought to life. Everything about him is ridiculously cute. From his fluffy little teddy bear face to his constant happy smile, he has this soft, gentle look about him that instantly makes you want to hug him. And honestly? His personality is even sweeter. Jesse Bear is one of those dogs that just seems genuinely happy to be included in whatever is going on. Hanging out in the yard? Amazing. Following you around while you do chores? Best day ever. Snuggling up next to you for attention? Absolutely yes. He has such a gentle, affectionate way about him and naturally leans into people for love like it’s his favorite thing in the world. Being around Jesse just feels easy and comforting, like he’s the type of dog that quickly becomes everyone’s favorite without even trying. Watch his video and fall in love with his sweet personality: https://youtu.be/0ebYmBsgiGU?si=CTo1VpNSKPTnczOV Jesse Bear is believed to be a Shepherd/Husky mix approximately 1 year old and currently weighs 52 lbs. He is a rescue dog and with any rescue it’s always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. We do know that Jesse is as sweet as they come, and to add to his greatness, he is essentially a real life teddy bear with that adorable sweet face of his. This handsome boy has such an easygoing, gentle nature about him and truly seems happiest just being around his people and included in whatever is going on. From what we’ve seen so far, Jesse has been friendly with everyone he has met and has this calm, affectionate way of leaning into people for love that is impossible not to adore. He’s the kind of dog you can picture as your little sidekick for everyday life. Whether that’s hanging out around the house, going on casual adventures, or snuggling up with you at the end of the day. And fair warning now… your camera roll is absolutely going to be taken over by pictures of his ridiculously cute face. Jesse has been around kids ages 5-8 years old and has been nothing but gentle around young kids. While he was with the kids, he did seem to gravitate more towards the 8 year old boy more. Jesse was leaning into him for affection and would keep going back to him and would give him gentle kisses. We do believe that she would be happiest in a home with kids 8 years old and older. Jesse is dog friendly and has done well with the dogs we have introduced to him so far. He has been with dogs his size and dogs smaller than him as well. When it comes to play time, he is good about matching the energy of the other dogs. He will play when play is invited and will enjoy those relaxing hangout moments too. When he does play, it’s consistent with running around, playing games of chase, and with the right dog he’ll engage in more physical type play. Jesse has shared affection with other dogs with no issues and has shared treats around other dogs too. He is a sweet guy that has shown to have such a go with the flow type of personality. Jesse also met our house cat Biggie and met him appropriately and was very respectful around him. He did not chase Biggie, nor was he bothered by Biggie jumping or doing what cats do. Biggie also felt comfortable around him as well. We do not know if he has ever lived in a home before with a cat and this was our first time seeing him with a cat. If you have a cat in the home, we can arrange for Jesse to have a sleepover with a cat upon request. Just let us know! Jesse’s ideal home would include a fenced-in backyard rather than an apartment. He loves being outside, exploring, zooming, soaking up the sunshine, and enjoying all the smells. A yard where he can do all his favorite things would make him one happy boy. At the end of the day, Jesse just wants to be with you. Whether that’s snuggling on the couch, going for a walk, sitting out on the porch, heading out on a little adventure, or even going on a camping trip, he’s in. Work from home? He'll be the best coworker too. Just don't go running to HR because he's smooching on you. Honestly, as long as he’s with his people, he’s exactly where he wants to be. We are willing to test Jesse Bear with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life?
