Story
RALPHIE is a 1 year old, 41.5 lbs., male Australian Shepherd mix that came into the Orange County shelter as a stray on 12/16/2025 from the City of Orange. His owner hasn't shown up to claim him and take him home. RALPHIE was brought into the shelter on a catch pole. He was biting the pole, so his mouth was bloody upon intake. Shelter notes say he was more fearful than aggressive. In his kennel, RALPHIE is more interested in treats than toys. He seems to want to engage with staff but is extremely overwhelmed by all the noise and chaos going on around him. On 12/20/2025, RALPHIE was taken out of his kennel: * 12/20/2025: At front of kennel today during morning cleaning. Opened kennel door, RALPHIE laid down and allowed leashing. Opened kennel door wide, dog urinated then dashed out, pausing and freezing in between short bursts of dashing. Noise level of bldg 1 rose significantly after we walked out of kennel, dog continued dashing and displaying increasingly frantic behavior. Able to quickly coax him out of bldg, defecating as we walked. Dog froze and laid down outside of bldg 1, flopping on his side. Leaned against brick wall while slightly crouched ~3ft away sideways to him and allowed him to decompress. After about ~30 seconds, dog glanced at me; I avoided eye contact and kept face parallel to him. Noticed him stand up and crawl towards me. Kept still. Dog then dashed past me and began thrashing on leash, anxious whining, flailing and flipping himself on leash in attempts to remove leash pressure. Used paws to attempt to pull leash away. Attempted to guide hand with him to ease leash pressure, dog continued flipping and flailing. Dog began chewing through leather leash quickly. ACAs saw and quickly opened doors as I walked him back. Dog continued flailing and attempting to chew through leash, noticed several large holes in leash as he chewed. Dog became frantic and dashed towards staff and myself in walkway, unsure if he was charging or attempting to minimize leash pressure. Able to place him back in kennel with leash attached.     RALPHIE has displayed moments of curiosity and seemingly affiliative engagement in kennel with staff. However, this behavior does not generalize beyond in kennel. When removed from kennel, RALPHIE demonstrates a marked increase in stress related behaviors, indicating that exposure to the shelter environment exceed his capability to self-soothe and regulate. Attempts at handling out of kennel result in extreme fear responses, including intense fixation on fleeing by: chewing through leather leash, flailing and attempting to pull the leash off, defecating and urinating. Due to RALPHIE'S inability to tolerate routine handling, he will not be considered for public adoption. We are recommending placement with rescue only. ##2622392##

Australian Shepherd + Labrador Retriever + German Shepherd Mix 10 months old Male 35 pounds Kids · 10+ Dogs · Yes Cats · No I don’t want to seem like a show-off or anything, but I am pretty sweet, and friendly, and affectionate with people... unless I am on leash! Goodness do I need help with my leash manners, I can pretty grumpy meeting new people and dogs on leash. I won’t mind sharing my home with kids 10+, or other dogs. I mean, they are all so much fun to play with! But I’m not to sure how to be friends with a kitty. I could run and wrestle and romp all day! I’m a pretty happy boy with a great attitude and a curious demeanor. I’ve got the brains to excel at arithmetic, but who am I kidding…I just can’t wait for recess! I’m super smart, playful, eager to please, and longing to be loved; so a family that is committed to working on continued training, giving me lots of guidance and structure is exactly what I need. I am teenager who is rebelling a little bit and need someone to help rein it in! Why not come in and meet me? I want so badly to show off what a cute fella I am! Story
**Now fostered in Bothell, WA** At 6-months old and about 28lbs., this velvet-soft cutie is believed to be an Aussie/Pittie mix (though with rescue, it’s always a bit of a guess). With his two tan splotches, dreamy blue eyes, and the sweetest face, Beethoven Clu is impossible not to fall in love with. Beethoven Clu was born deaf, but that hasn’t slowed him down one bit! He’s a happy, wiggly pup who takes cues from the other dogs in his foster home and is learning the world beautifully through them. He’ll need a home with another friendly dog and adopters who either have experience with deaf dogs or are eager to learn how to communicate and support him — because this boy is so worth it. His foster family reports he's doing amazing and learning hand signals. He’s currently thriving in a loving foster home with two young kids, two foster dog siblings, and his brother (who’s also available for adoption!). He’s doing awesome with his potty (pretty much 100%) and crate training, loves toys, adores having his ears rubbed, and recently tagged along to watch his foster brothers play soccer — he was a total hit on the sidelines! He also joins his foster dad and mom at work and is a great help- although he may be caught sleeping on the job a bit. Beethoven was a hit at a recent busy adoption event- he was sweet and loving to all including little kids who wanted a chance to hold and pet him. He's very well behaved in public. He also has meet Santa and road on a boat- this boy is made for adventure! Even though he is deaf he will occasionally let out a deep bark- his foster mom says the first time he did it everyone was shocked. He knows that a bark will let others know he needs out. One benefit of a deaf dog is when the house is full of chaos- kids running around, tv blaring, doorbell ringing from visitors or the delivery person dropping off packages- he has no idea and will remain sound asleep or playing with his toys. Beethoven Clu is a smart, affectionate, and resilient little soul who’s ready to find a family that will cheer him on every step of the way. Story
You don’t even need to say it…we’re already thinking the same thing! Blaze Glory is a one of a kind heart stealer with the kind of looks that stop people in their tracks. Those soft, fluffy ears looks like they were specifically designed with a little extra fluff. Same thing with those eyes!! Pure magic and the type of eyes that make everyone jealous. This unique heartthrob is in a total league of his own. Watch his video and fall in love: https://youtu.be/3wW0yWjgtxo?si=5pNtUYbHsKTNpp4x Blaze Glory is believed to be an Aussie mix approximately 2 years old and currently weighs 40 lbs. The statement, “with rescue, it’s always a mystery” cannot be anymore true with this unique beauty. He’s a perfect blend of everything that matters. From those fluffy ears, petite frame, freckles on this face, to those striking blue eyes. He’s a perfect blend of everything that matters. He is very dog friendly and has made friends with all of the dogs we have introduced him to and is currently being fostered in a home with 4 other dogs as well. Blaze loves to play, enjoys a fun wrestling match, is always up for a game of chase, and also appreciates those relaxing moments as well. He has a puppy-like play style that is bouncy, a little mouthy, and is always game for a round of chase. Blaze enjoys those relaxing moments as well, sunbathing on a nice sunny day, and exploring the yard with his doggy pals. In a home he would do best with a doggy friend that enjoys playing, is tolerant of a more mouthy type play, will enjoy a game of tag you're it, and will also appreciate couch snuggles together. Blaze would also do great as you're one and only. He does not need the company of another dog to help her feel comfortable or open up, he is a total love bug once he gets his bearings and would love being the center of your attention. Blaze has also been around our house cat and did great around him. Blaze was playful with Biggie just the way he was playful with his doggy friends. Bouncy, a little mouthy, and enjoyed playing a game of chase. Biggie was not bothered by his playful personality either and joined him in play time as well. So if you have a cat that likes dogs and won't be bothered by his playfulness, they will be the best of friends. Blaze wasn’t all play all the time either with Biggie, they both took breaks and hang out with each other peacefully as well. Blaze is currently also being fostered in a home with cats but his foster’s cats rarely come out, almost as if they aren’t really there. If you have an active cat and are interested in Blaze, we can arrange for him to have a sleepover with a more active cat in the home. Just let us know! Blaze would thrive in a home with a backyard where he can stretch his legs and get all the zoomies his little heart desires. Whether he is in a home with a backyard or an apartment, Blaze would love to be with a semi active family that will play with him, take him on adventures, or even give him some mind puzzles. He would love that too as he loves treats and is so smart! He already knows how to sit, is doing great at polishing his leash skills, and is very eager to please. So anything additional training you want to do with Blaze will be a breeze and enjoyable for you both. He is crate and potty trained too, though on occasion he does like when you toss a treat in his kennel for a little extra incentive. In new environments and with new people, he can be a little shy but trust us when we say, it does not take long for him to be climbing in your lap wanting to give you all the kisses. If you work from home, Blaze will be great company to have! Not to say that you won't get distracted because this little fella will without a doubt make you take work breaks and give him some love. All other times, he’ll be playing with a toy or taking a nap. His foster mom works from home and he is a great work from home buddy to have. We are willing to test Blaze Glory with anything you need to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? **Now fostered in Bothell, WA** Flynn is an almost 6-month-old Australian Shepherd/Pittie mix (we think! It's always a guess with rescue) with velvet-soft white fur and tan splotches that make him look as sweet as he truly is. At about 25 pounds, this little guy has the perfect balance of playful energy and cuddle-bug charm. Flynn is currently fostered with his brother (also available for adoption!), two other dogs, and two kids—and he’s doing wonderfully with them all. He loves to romp around with his doggy friends and play with the kids, then happily curl up for a snuggle session afterward. Flynn hasn't shown any fear when experiencing new things like Halloween costumes and would make a great dog to take everywhere. Flynn loves to pose for the camera and even enjoys going to work with his foster dad and mom. He's a great sounding board but will sleep on the job. He recently had some fun meeting Santa and riding a boat with his foster family! He’s 100% potty trained and is crate trained. Flynn will need thrive in a family committed to continuing his training and socialization. Another dog in home (ideally a few years older) to help show him proper doggy manners and learn from would be a great fit. Flynn doesn’t ask for much—just a warm place to sleep, good food, a few toys, and a family ready to make him part of their hearts and home. Story
Ivy Bloom is her name, she loves the beach and bodies of water and playing fetch is her favorite game! This girl is literally a big cotton ball- floof and fun and full of energy. She loves going on walks, hiking, and especially loves running with other dogs in big, open fields. At the end of the day she often falls asleep with a stuffed toy tucked gently in her mouth- one of her foster’s favorite endearing quirks. See her floof on the beach here then come back to read more- https://youtu.be/on6N_tC0o0A At just 2 years old and 30 lbs, we believe Ivy Bloom is a mini Aussie mix. She is a rescue though so no guarantees with breed and birthday- not a guess but an educated observation. As soon as I saw her I knew I was going to adore her, you can just see her bright spirit. Her foster believes she is deaf and we can see some of the markers of this being the case but it truly was such an afterthought to all of us- we wouldn’t have known because of how in-tune and attentive she is. Just one of many things that make her specia! Plus, she is already learning sign language and her foster shared that Ivy is a fast learner. Her foster says, *“She is a very smart dog. Loves a job! And is a classic Aussie.” Plus she is both house and crate trained. Ivy has lived with a wide variety of dogs and has even lived with cats, all of whom she got along with perfectly. She enjoys having a playmate and that does not stop at dogs, she will invite you to play, and she will invite the cat to play. Her approach is playful curiosity, harmless but not every cats type, so a confident, dog-savvy cat would be the best fit for her. She has a social side and is very affectionate with people. The trick to this out-and-about or when you have guests is to let the hello’s be on her terms. When guests come over, she does bark a hello their way before then running over to greet them. We love a discerning girl! Ivy is happiest when she gets regular exercise and socialization and thrives on routine, companionship, and simply being included. She has the basics of leash walking skills but will benefit from continued practice using the tools she has grown to know, and the chance to experience a variety of places with a confident handler by her side to help keep her grounded in a sense of security. This girl is young, vibrant, and a devoted companion who will be a beautiful addition to a variety of homes. Whether you have a dog or she will be your one and only, she will remind you daily of how much our heart needs the simple companionship of an adoring dog. She’s ready and waiting for her forever home with a family that sees her not for what she lacks, but for the amazing, loving dog she already is. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life?
