He's a friendly, playful young dog with plenty of growing, learning, and loving still ahead of him. Travis is at such a fun age. He's no longer a tiny puppy, but he's still very much a youngster discovering the world. He'll need a family ready to enjoy his playful personality while also helping him develop into a well-mannered adult dog. Travis is affectionate, people-oriented, playful, loyal, athletic, and enthusiastic about spending time with their families. At 40 pounds at only eight months old, Travis should be considered a medium breed dog, although his exact adult weight cannot be guaranteed. His ideal family should be ready to provide him with: Daily walks and age-appropriate exercise Playtime and enrichment Positive-reinforcement training Continued socialization Consistent household rules and boundaries Mental stimulation Plenty of affection and family time Travis isn't looking for somewhere to simply finish growing—he's looking for the family he'll grow up with. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect At seven months old, Travis is entering adolescence, an important stage for continued training and social development. Rescue dogs may arrive with basic training at best, so adopters should be prepared to continue working on house training as needed, leash manners, basic commands, recall, calm greetings, appropriate play, and household boundaries. Because Travis is becoming a bigger, stronger dog, teaching good manners now will help set him up for success as an adult. Training should remain positive, consistent, patient, and rewarding. Young dogs need repetition, and mistakes are part of learning. His future family should continue routine veterinary wellness exams, recommended vaccine boosters, flea/tick/heartworm and parasite prevention, dental care, quality nutrition, healthy weight management, grooming and nail care, and veterinary treatment whenever needed. As a growing medium-large breed puppy, Travis should receive age-appropriate exercise and nutrition while his body continues developing. His veterinarian can help guide his family on healthy growth, body condition, diet, and exercise as he matures.
