I’m a 6-year-old Border Collie mix and the perfect size at 40 pounds—just right for adventures and snuggles! I bond quickly with my humans (people are my everything!) and, get this—I don’t bark much. Instead, I’ve got this adorable hum and mumble thing going on when I want something. You’ll hear it soon enough and know exactly what I mean! As a working dog, I like to stay busy. I’m the ideal trail buddy and, because I’m low to the ground, I'd make an excellent mountain biking companion. Let’s go for daily walks and explore the neighborhood together—oh, and did I mention hikes? Count me in for lots of those! I’d thrive in a home with school-aged kids (8+). I love affection and attention, but I also like to jump up—so they’ll need to be ready for my enthusiastic love! I have to admit, I’m pretty curious about cats, but I might chase them, so I’d do best in a home without any. Squirrels in trees though? I could watch them all day long. I’m a smart girl and already know my basic commands, but I’d love to keep practicing with you. It’s a great way for us to bond and have fun together! I’m house-trained and kennel-trained, though my kennel isn’t my favorite spot. But good news: you can trust me to roam free in the house while you’re out, and I won’t destroy a thing. I’ll happily snooze at the foot of your bed or curl up on the couch for a daytime nap. I enjoy having dog friends, but let’s be honest—people are my absolute favorite! Ferdinand probably hasn't had the easiest life, but his history is a mystery as he was transferred to HSU another shelter where he came in as a stray at the beginning of September. Once he transferred to HSU, our veterinarian neutered him, gave him a dental cleaning, and extracted the worst of his teeth. Ferd is looking for a cat-free home. We always recommend slow introductions between shelter pets and resident pets, but he might enjoy a dog friend. He stayed with a family for a day and they said he was great with the child in the home. Ferdinand is so grateful for a cozy bed, some gentle affection, and a squeaky toy or two. He isn't picky about snacks, and will sniff out any crumb left on the ground. He's a curious guy who likes to explore with his superpowered nose. While we're not sure if he's housetrained, he prefers to potty outside here at HSU. He knows "sit", and perhaps some other cues. Want to show Ferdinand all the comforts he might have been missing out on all these years? Come take him for a walk at the Humane Society of Utah.
