Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Sissy is a sweet, gentle, playful little girl.  She enjoys being outside in the yard and laying in the sun, and she loves to run and play with other small dogs in her foster home.  A fenced in yard would be best for Sissy allowing her to go in/out independently to do her business.  She enjoys going on walks, she is potty trained, and loves playing and chewing on toys. It will be important to have another small dog in Sissy’s forever home so she continues to learn to trust people.  Sissy is not aggressive; she is just cautious when meeting new people and it is important to let her settle in on her timeline.  Sissy does enjoy a good rub and likes to join you on the couch once she trusts you.   Now that she trusts us, one of her favorite times of day is when she is allowed up on our bed in the morning with our dogs where she gets lots of love and rubs!  She will cuddle into us and nudge our hands for more rubs.   At this time Sissy doesn’t like to be kissed on the head, or cared to be picked up but if you pick her up, she will stay in your lap for some petting.  With patience, time, and the influence of her small furry siblings, Sissy’s confidence has grown daily! Sissy’s sweet playful side shines through every day!  She would be a wonderful companion for another small playful dog.  She currently lives with small dogs and adults.  Energetic large dogs and small kids make her nervous.  Older respectful teenage children should be okay.  A large dog that is quiet and low keyed should be fine with slow introductions.  A quieter household without a lot of visitors would make Sissy most comfortable.   If you are looking for a sweet, gentle, even-tempered dog who’d love to play with your small dog, then Sissy may be your girl.   Everyday she shows us what a wonderful girl she is blossoming into!  It will be important to be patient with her to earn her trust, to have a quieter home with no young kids or high energy large dogs.  Sissy would be fine hanging out in another room with a “safe space” if young kids visited.   A fenced in yard would be the perfect home for Sissy.  Fill out an application, I’d love to tell you about this sweet girl!  Sissy is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Pixel! Pixel was rescued from a situation where she and her family were not given the care they needed. When found, she was covered in urine and feces and was underfed. Thankfully, she's now thriving in a foster home where she's receiving the attention and care she deserves. Pixel is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. She's curious, enjoys kisses, and has a lot of energy for running, jumping, and playing. Sunbathing is one of her favorite pastimes. Pixel is currently working on potty training and is doing great! Her daily routine starts at 6 am with breakfast, followed by a 20-minute trip outside. She's crated while her foster parents are at work, although she doesn't enjoy being crated and may whine a bit before settling down. Dinner is at 6 pm, and then she gets an hour of outdoor playtime with the other dogs. After that, she comes inside to play until bedtime around 10 pm. Pixel is very playful and can be a bit mischievous. She loves playing with other dogs. She may initially bark at new people, however, she quickly warms up to new people and showers them with cuddles. Pixel would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time to give her the attention she loves. She would also love to have a furry sibling or regular paydates with another dog!  If you're looking for a lively, loving pup to add to your family, Pixel could be the perfect fit! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Orchid! Orchid was rescued from a tough situation where she and her family were not properly cared for. When she was found, she was covered in urine and feces, and underfed. But since then, she's blossomed into a loving and curious dog who adores attention and cuddles. Orchid loves to run, jump, and sunbathe. She's very affectionate and enjoys being around her foster parents, often following them around like a little shadow. However, she's not a fan of being crated and will make you chase her around the house when it's time to go in. She's currently working on potty training and doing well with a consistent schedule. Orchid's daily routine starts with breakfast at 6 am, followed by a quick trip outside. She spends the day in her crate while her foster parents are at work, although she doesn't like it and may whine a bit before settling down. Dinner is at 6 pm, and she gets an hour of outdoor playtime with the other dogs before coming inside to play some more.  Orchid loves playing with other dogs and would benefit from having a canine companion to keep her entertained. She's very loving and would do best in a home where someone is around more often than not. While she barks when someone new enters the house, she quickly warms up and showers them with cuddles and kisses. If you're looking for a playful and affectionate dog who loves to be around people and other dogs, Orchid might be the perfect addition to your family! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Taco is a sweet, gentle, and quiet little boy whose eyes will melt your heart. He is a love bug who loves to spend time with his people whether it is up on the couch next to you or on a pillow in your office. Taco plays gently with the other small dogs in his foster home and is starting to show interest in toys! He loves being outside and lying in the warm sun. He enjoys car rides and walks well on a leash. Taco is working hard on his potty training and is being checked for a UTI. Taco sleeps quietly in his crate at night but I'm sure he'd be more than happy to cuddle up with you in your bed if you'd let him! This little guy will steal your heart! Fill out an application I'd love to tell you about this sweet boy! Taco is from Texas.  One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. We apologize for the inconvenience. We do not adopt animals to families whose current pets are not up-to-date on vaccinations or not altered. Exceptions may be made for medical reasons as stated by a veterinarian and we will require proof of that recommendation. Thank you for understanding our mission to reduce overpopulation. Age: Approximately 10 years old Weight: 10 lbs Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: TBD more than likely yes Kid friendly: Yes. Older/considerate kids would be best Potty trained: Yes Crate trained: Does well being left loose in the house alone Meet Pumba, an adorable chocolate chihuahua looking for his forever home! Pumba walks well on a leash, enjoys strolls, and loves a large fenced yard. This resilient little guy is looking for a loving home where he can feel secure and cherished.    He may come on your lap periodically but he prefers to watch his environment in his open crate & is not a cuddler. Pumba is very independent, loves food and needs to be fed separately to prevent resource guarding. He's fine with humans around his food but prefers not to share with other dogs. He currently lives with two small dogs and one large dog but pays no attention to them as he perfectly happy just coexisting. He would love more one-on-one attention. Pumba loves to burrowing under blankets at the foot of the bed at bedtime. So cute!   Pumba is best with older, considerate children. He’s potty trained and doesn't need a crate, doing well when left loose in the house. He can be vocal if crated and left alone, so a single dwelling is ideal.   Despite a tough past, Pumba's spirit is unbroken. Found malnourished and flea-infested in a Texas shelter, his previous owners never came for him, but he's ready for a brighter future. Could you be the perfect match for Pumba? Asia is a nimble, perceptive, and loving 12-15 pound chihuahua mix, with maybe some Jack Russell or dachshund. She came to foster care quite shut down, with no interest in toys or skills beyond potty training (potty habits are excellent, by the way—she has remarkable bladder control, so sleeping in is no problem). She’s since learned a half dozen commands and plays fetch with her beloved ducky toy; her personality evolves every day, so we’re sure there are even more delightful developments in her future! It’s all about avoiding surprises and channeling energy for this girl. She will need either a fenced yard or an active adopter! Asia lives with and tolerates cats and other dogs with thoughtful introductions. She’s still learning that new people aren’t scary, and needs a family without small children or heavy visitor traffic. Asia will crate for transport and handles car rides well, and is making great progress in kenneling in the home. She deeply bonds with her people and would love someone who is around a lot. She would do best without shared walls. She thrives with plenty of exercise and stimulation, and when motivated (ahem, somebody loves food) she demonstrates excellent problem-solving and agility. She would be ideal for someone willing to channel her energy into productive learning, such as agility training, but who also loves under-the-cover snuggles at night and long belly-rub sessions during the day. If you’re ready to invest in Asia, she will invest in you! Adoption Fee: $495  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.INTERESTED IN MEETING ME? Apply on our website ( https://www.healingheartsrescue.org/adopt )  to  set up a private meeting or check below for my adoption event schedule. Age: Approximately 1-1.5 years old Weight: 17 lbs Dog friendly: Fine after slow intro. Cat friendly: Likely fine after slow intro. Kid friendly: Older kids would be best Potty trained: YES Crate trained: YES *Physical Fence Required.* Brene Brownie bonds hard to her person/people and is very much a lap dog/snuggle buddy. If you need a shadow or a super snuggler, she is it. She is VERY affectionate, VERY sweet, and can be very silly.  She's loves to play with toys and her foster fur sister. She loves to use her brain: nosework, food puzzles, and snuffle mats would be ideal to keep her mentally challenged. She loves learning and working.  If you like the energy and personality of Jack Russell Terriers, you'll love Brownie. She knows "sit", "lay down," shake," hand-targeting with "touch", and "get on your mat." She is crate trained and potty trained and knows the cues "get in your box" and "go potty." She handles baths well, does fine in the car, and has been completely unbothered by all the thunderstorms and fireworks. She needs a fenced yard for exercise. She does great on walks in quiet, calm areas with no or very few dogs, but gets overstimulated and is leash reactive if dogs are too close (e.g., she is unable to stay calm if they are within about ~50-75ft of her right now). She is doing better with training, but right now she is not a good candidate for an apartment, townhome, or busy area. Her foster is committed to providing training support after adoption. She happily lives with two beagles and loves to play with them, but she needs slow introductions to other dogs so she can build trust. It took several days to integrate her into her foster home. Overall, there's lots to love about Ms. Brownie, she's quite the find!   Adoption Fee: $425  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.INTERESTED IN MEETING ME?
