Name: Niko Age: 9 years Gender: male Breed: Yorkie Weight: 11 lbs Dog friendly: yes- calm respectful dogs, please Cat friendly: testing available upon request Child friendly: yes, older  school aged gentle children please House trained: yes Crate trained: yes Energy level: low Temperament: sweet, snuggly, docile, easygoing, loyal Adoption Fee: $375+tax To adopt, go to:   www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html Some hearts learn to love quietly first. Nico’s learned to love with everything he has.  Rescued from a hoarding situation with 18 other Chihuahuas, Nico came from a world where space was crowded, attention was scarce, and safety wasn’t guaranteed. And yet—despite all of that—this little one-eyed gentleman chose love. He chose people. He chose closeness. Nico is a true cuddle bug in every sense of the word. If he had his way, he’d spend the entire day curled up on the bed beside you, tucked into blankets and pillows, soaking in the comfort he waited so long to have. He follows his people everywhere, always wanting to be close, always making sure you’re nearby. Treats are one of his love languages (especially a whipped cream pup cup), and car rides feel like tiny adventures he’s always happy to join. Toys are fun for Nico, but he likes to take his time. New environments can feel big, so he may need a little patience before his playful side fully comes out—but when it does, it’s worth the wait. Nico enjoys the company of other dogs, especially when introductions happen slowly and thoughtfully. When it comes to his favorite humans, though, he prefers to keep them all to himself. People are his safe place, and he has so much love to give once he knows you’re his. He loves food but eats in small portions, and he’s still learning boundaries and manners—making wonderful progress every day. He’s working on his leash skills and is quickly learning how to tell his fosters when it’s time to go outside. Nico is house trained, crate trained, and generally very quiet, though being with his people is always his favorite option. This little one-eyed man has a way of stealing hearts without even trying. He’s gentle, affectionate, and always ready for the next cozy adventure—whether that’s a car ride, a short walk, or simply a quiet afternoon at home. Nico would do best in a calm, loving home with older, gentle children or a senior or retired household where he can soak up all the companionship he’s been missing. After everything he’s been through, what he wants most is simple: a soft place to land, steady routines, and someone to love him as much as he loves them. And trust us—loving Nico is the easiest thing in the world. January 29, 2026, 9:58 pm

Story
Name: Lucie Age: 4 years Gender: Female Breed: Treeing Feist Weight: 22 lbs Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: No cats, please Child Friendly: Yes – older, calm, school-aged children House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Energy Level: Moderate Temperament: Playful, brilliant, sweet, motivated and intelligent Requirements: Not suited for rental living; fenced-in yard required Adoption Fee: $375 + tax To adopt, go to: http://www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html Meet Lucie – A Little Dog with a Big Heart When we first met Lucie, we thought she was a Jack Russell Terrier mix. Her energy, intelligence, and curiosity certainly fit the bill! But thanks to her original adoption paperwork, we learned she’s actually a Treeing Feist—a true working dog with a big personality packed into a small body. Treeing Feists were bred to hunt and “tree” small game, which means they are alert, intelligent, driven, and expressive. They use their voices to communicate, and Lucie is no exception—she can be vocal, especially when she’s excited, alerting you to something interesting, or eager to join in the action. Because of this (and her working-dog instincts), Lucie is not well suited for apartment or rental living and will thrive in a home that understands and appreciates these natural behaviors. Lucie strongly reflects her breed traits. She’s curious, people-focused, and always ready to engage with the world around her. While she enjoys play and outdoor adventures, she also has a wonderful off-switch and is happy to relax once her needs are met. A home that can provide structure, enrichment, and regular outdoor time will help Lucie shine. Lucie came to us after her previous owner had to move into a nursing home, and her family wasn’t able to keep her. It’s clear she was deeply loved—she’s house-trained, crate-trained, food-motivated, and has excellent house manners. She’ll sit by the door when she needs to go outside and prefers to keep her people within sight at all times. Lucie enjoys playing with her larger foster brother but prefers calmer, respectful play. True to her Treeing Feist roots, she loves exploring the yard, going on long sniffy walks, and engaging her senses. She also happens to be a total water girland happily splashes whenever she gets the chance! Her short brindle-and-white coat and expressive ears make her as charming as she is striking. Some things to know about Lucie: No cats or small animals – strong prey drive typical of Treeing Feists Can be vocal, especially when excited or alerting May do best with a calm dog companion or as your one-and-only Loves water, outdoor time, and exploration Needs a fenced yard and a home that understands working-dog Treeing Feist traits From Lucie: “Things have changed a lot for me lately, and I’ll admit—I’ve been a little unsure. But I’m not letting it stop me from having fun! I love racing around the yard, going for walks, and seeing what this new world has to offer. When play gets too rowdy, I just find my person for some reassurance. Inside, I’m happy to curl up, chew a bone, or keep watch out the window. I may have something to say now and then—but it’s all part of who I am. I’m ready for my next adventure—with a forever family of my own.” If Lucie sounds like the perfect match for your home and heart—and you’re excited to share life with a smart, vocal, working-breed Treeing Feist—we’d love to introduce you!       February 1, 2026, 12:34 pm

I’m Daira, a sweet Border Collie and Labrador Retriever mix puppy with a heart as big as my paws. I’m new to Minnesota and still discovering all the exciting things about being an indoor pup. My distinct white-tipped front paws and question mark tail are my signature markings and make me different from my sister. For most of my young life, I lived outside on my own, so every cozy new experience now feels extra special and exciting to me. I’m a curious little explorer at heart — I love sniffing out new corners, chasing a bouncy toy, or investigating a new sound. I also have a soft, cuddly side and adore curling up on a warm bed or snuggling on the couch for quiet time with my people. Sometimes I’ll nuzzle in close just to make sure I’m part of whatever is happening, and I always appreciate gentle pets and love-filled attention. I get along wonderfully with dogs, cats, and kids, and I have a calm, friendly nature that makes it easy for me to bond with new friends. I’m still learning house training and crate training, but I’m making steady progress and respond well to patience, structure, and positive encouragement. I enjoy short walks, play sessions, and discovering new sights and smells, and I’m looking forward to learning even more as I grow. I dream of a family who will share life’s adventures with me — from playing in the yard, going on safe walks, learning new tricks, to quiet evenings curled up together. I’m loyal, loving, and full of potential, and I want a home where I can be a true part of the family, sharing love, laughter, and lots of cuddles along the way. Please complete an application so that we can meet one another!        February 5, 2026, 11:14 am

He took just under a week to settle into his foster home, which is impressive considering he had only ever known life in an animal shelter. Since then, he’s been an absolute joy. He loves running around the yard with the resident dogs and then coming inside to curl up next to his foster on the couch for belly rubs. Crate training is going well, though he’s much happier tagging along and keeping an eye on whatever his foster is doing. Apollo would thrive in a home with another dog who can help guide him and lead by example. Overall, he is a gentle, tender-hearted soul who, with a little time and patience, will make a wonderful addition to his forever home. About Me: Hi happy humans! I’m Apollo, and I’m searching for a family to call my own. I was born and raised in a shelter, so getting to live in a real home has been a pretty amazing change for me. I’m not sure why I was overlooked before—just look at my beautiful, silky coat. I can be a bit shy at first, so I need a family willing to take things slow. Once I feel comfortable, I promise you’ll see my playful, bouncy personality shine through. I have so much love to give and would make a fantastic companion. If you think you might be the forever family I’ve been dreaming of, please fill out an application.  February 1, 2026, 12:34 pm

He loves being around other dogs and really thrives with canine friends to help show him the ropes, making him a great candidate for a home with another dog. Hades currently lives with two elementary-aged children and a high schooler. Once he’s comfortable, he adores kids and happily shares kisses and playtime. He’s still learning not to jump when he gets excited, but he responds well to gentle guidance and positive reinforcement. This observant boy is still building trust with humans and does best when people move at his pace—getting down to his level, speaking softly, and giving him time to warm up. Once that trust is built, his affectionate and playful personality truly shines. Potty training is going well with only a few minor accidents. Hades is crate-trained and goes in and out comfortably, often choosing to relax there with the door open. He’s still gaining confidence exploring new areas of the home, but he especially enjoys hanging out in the kitchen. Hades doesn’t mind wearing a collar or even a little jacket. He’s still adjusting to his harness and leash, but he does great in a fenced yard—where he loves running laps, especially in the snow! He’s an active pup who will benefit from regular exercise, playtime, and mental enrichment. Toys are a big hit, especially squeaky ones! He’s learning that toys are better than socks and responds well to “no” and “drop it.” Hades is very food-motivated, which helps him learn quickly and makes training a fun experience for everyone. Hades will thrive in a patient, active home ready to help him continue building confidence and discovering the world. About Me (from Hades): Hi! I’m Hades. I feel bravest when I have dog friends around—they help me learn and feel safe. I like kids too, and once I trust you, I’ll give you lots of kisses! I feel best when my humans get down on my level and talk to me softly. I might be shy at first, but once we’re friends, I’m playful, loving, and always happy to be by your side. I’m learning lots of new things like going potty outside, sitting, and keeping all four paws on the floor. I love my toys, especially squeaky ones, and I really love treats—they help me learn fast! I’m still getting used to my harness, but once I’m outside, I’m ready to explore. I can’t wait to grow and learn with a family who will love me as much as I’ll love them.      February 1, 2026, 12:34 pm
