Story
Name: Lucie Age: 4 years Gender: Female Breed: Treeing Feist Weight: 22 lbs Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: No cats, please Child Friendly: Yes – older, calm, school-aged children House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Energy Level: Moderate Temperament: Playful, brilliant, sweet, motivated and intelligent Requirements: Not suited for rental living; fenced-in yard required Adoption Fee: $375 + tax To adopt, go to: http://www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html Meet Lucie – A Little Dog with a Big Heart When we first met Lucie, we thought she was a Jack Russell Terrier mix. Her energy, intelligence, and curiosity certainly fit the bill! But thanks to her original adoption paperwork, we learned she’s actually a Treeing Feist—a true working dog with a big personality packed into a small body. Treeing Feists were bred to hunt and “tree” small game, which means they are alert, intelligent, driven, and expressive. They use their voices to communicate, and Lucie is no exception—she can be vocal, especially when she’s excited, alerting you to something interesting, or eager to join in the action. Because of this (and her working-dog instincts), Lucie is not well suited for apartment or rental living and will thrive in a home that understands and appreciates these natural behaviors. Lucie strongly reflects her breed traits. She’s curious, people-focused, and always ready to engage with the world around her. While she enjoys play and outdoor adventures, she also has a wonderful off-switch and is happy to relax once her needs are met. A home that can provide structure, enrichment, and regular outdoor time will help Lucie shine. Lucie came to us after her previous owner had to move into a nursing home, and her family wasn’t able to keep her. It’s clear she was deeply loved—she’s house-trained, crate-trained, food-motivated, and has excellent house manners. She’ll sit by the door when she needs to go outside and prefers to keep her people within sight at all times. Lucie enjoys playing with her larger foster brother but prefers calmer, respectful play. True to her Treeing Feist roots, she loves exploring the yard, going on long sniffy walks, and engaging her senses. She also happens to be a total water girland happily splashes whenever she gets the chance! Her short brindle-and-white coat and expressive ears make her as charming as she is striking. Some things to know about Lucie: No cats or small animals – strong prey drive typical of Treeing Feists Can be vocal, especially when excited or alerting May do best with a calm dog companion or as your one-and-only Loves water, outdoor time, and exploration Needs a fenced yard and a home that understands working-dog Treeing Feist traits From Lucie: “Things have changed a lot for me lately, and I’ll admit—I’ve been a little unsure. But I’m not letting it stop me from having fun! I love racing around the yard, going for walks, and seeing what this new world has to offer. When play gets too rowdy, I just find my person for some reassurance. Inside, I’m happy to curl up, chew a bone, or keep watch out the window. I may have something to say now and then—but it’s all part of who I am. I’m ready for my next adventure—with a forever family of my own.” If Lucie sounds like the perfect match for your home and heart—and you’re excited to share life with a smart, vocal, working-breed Treeing Feist—we’d love to introduce you!       December 14, 2025, 3:20 pm

He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he realizes you’re kind, he warms up quickly and shows his sweet, playful nature. Neko loves toys — squeaky, plush, bouncy, you name it. He’s also famous for his signature happy dance, a full&#226&#128&#145body wiggle he breaks out whenever he sees his favorite humans. Along with his adorable moves, he knows a couple of tricks too: he can sit and shake like a pro. He walks nicely on a leash and enjoys calm, easy strolls. He is happy going around the block or even a mile or two if you want. Neko does get a bit worried when his people leave, so you may hear a whine now and then. He’s not dramatic — just a sensitive little guy with a big heart who feels safest when his humans are close. About Me (from Neko): Hi future family — it’s me, Neko. Here’s what I’m hoping for in my forever home: • Someone patient and gentle who understands I need a little time to feel safe. • A human who enjoys playtime and appreciates my toy collection. • A family that won’t leave me alone for long stretches, since I feel most secure when my people are nearby. • A walking buddy who likes relaxed, pleasant strolls. If you’re looking for a loyal, expressive, toy&#226&#128&#145loving companion who will adore you with his whole fluffy heart, I’d love to meet you. Love, Neko  December 28, 2025, 2:42 pm

Crate trained: Yes Energy level: Puppy  Temperament: Inquisitive, friendly, loving, shy, loyal Home requirements: Not apartment-appropriate; could be suitable for a duplex or condo; Companion dog in the home Adoption fee: $450 + tax To adopt, go to:  www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html From the Foster Family: Apollo is the sweetest little guy. He took just under a week to settle into his foster home, which is impressive considering he had only ever known life in an animal shelter. Since then, he’s been an absolute joy. He loves running around the yard with the resident dogs and then coming inside to curl up next to his foster on the couch for belly rubs. Crate training is going well, though he’s much happier tagging along and keeping an eye on whatever his foster is doing. Apollo would thrive in a home with another dog who can help guide him and lead by example. Overall, he is a gentle, tender-hearted soul who, with a little time and patience, will make a wonderful addition to his forever home. About Me: Hi happy humans! I’m Apollo, and I’m searching for a family to call my own. I was born and raised in a shelter, so getting to live in a real home has been a pretty amazing change for me. I’m not sure why I was overlooked before—just look at my beautiful, silky coat. I can be a bit shy at first, so I need a family willing to take things slow. Once I feel comfortable, I promise you’ll see my playful, bouncy personality shine through. I have so much love to give and would make a fantastic companion. If you think you might be the forever family I’ve been dreaming of, please fill out an application.  January 6, 2026, 7:07 pm

Name: Enzo Age: 2.5 years Gender: Male Breed: Labradoodle (Labrador Retriever / Poodle Mix) Weight: 47 lbs Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: No Cats Please Child Friendly: Yes – older children preferred House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Energy Level: Moderate / Active Temperament: Loving, cuddly, intelligent, playful Home Requirements: Not apartment-appropriate; could be suitable for a duplex or condo Adoption Fee: $400 + tax To adopt, go to:  www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html  Meet Enzo!  If you're looking for a loyal shadow, a goofy playmate, and the sweetest snuggle buddy, Enzo is your guy!  This handsome, affectionate boy loves nothing more than being close to his foster mom and proudly carrying around any squeaky toy he can get his paws on. He’s an expert at making people smile with his happy energy and goofy nature.  Enzo’s Best Qualities: • House trained and crate trained • Knows sit, shake, and is so close to mastering down • Loves walks and adores romping in the fresh snow • Sweet, cuddly, and very people-focused  Ideal Home: Enzo previously lived in a home with cats, and he found them a bit too exciting to chase. For everyone’s comfort and safety (especially the cats), Enzo is looking for a cat-free home where he can truly exist without temptation. He would thrive with a dog companion who matches his energy level and playful style. Enzo does best in a structured environment with a confident, engaged handler who provides clear rules, boundaries, and plenty of enrichment. He’s a fun-loving, enthusiastic player who may not always recognize when other dogs need a break, so consistent guidance and leadership are key to helping him succeed and build positive canine friendships. If you're searching for a loving, playful companion who’s ready to be your new best friend, Enzo can’t wait to meet you!       December 29, 2025, 1:42 pm

Name: Kip Age: 4.5 years Gender: Male Breed: Border Collie  Weight: 37 lbs Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Yes- dog-savvy cat's please who like to play! Child friendly: Yes- older considerate children, please House trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Energy level: Moderate  Temperament: Friendly, Affectionate, Eager to Please Home Requirements:  Not apartment-appropriate; could be suitable for a duplex or condo Adoption Fee: $375+tax To adopt, go to: www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html From the Foster Family: Kip is a sweet, affectionate boy who has overcome a difficult past and is ready to shower his forever family with love! Despite having been abandoned, Kip has shown us nothing but kindness and trust. He shows zero signs of aggression and is incredibly cuddly - he'll be your constant companion and shadow. He came to us a bit anxious at first, but adjusted to our home quickly and has really blossomed. Kip is whip-smart and attentive, already knowing "sit," "down," and "shake" - and he's always eager to learn more. He listens really well and is a joy to have around. He gets along great with both our resident dogs. This boy is always ready to go go go! He has moderate to active energy and would thrive with an active family who can give him regular exercise, mental stimulation, and plenty of adventures. He's both house trained and crate trained, which makes him an easy houseguest. Kip gets a little sad and nervous when someone leaves the house. We're still working on his excitement when new people come over because he just loves meeting everyone. With his intelligence and willingness to learn, we know he'll continue to improve with consistency and positive reinforcement. Kip deserves a patient, loving home that can provide him with structure, activity, and all the affection he's been missing. About Me: Hi, I'm Kip! I'm a 4.5-year-old boy who's ready to leave my past behind and focus on all the adventures ahead. I'm a smart and friendly guy who loves to learn new things and make my people proud. I know several commands already and I'm always watching for the next cue - I really want to be a good boy! I have plenty of energy for adventures, playtime, and outdoor fun - I'm basically ready to go at a moment's notice! But I also love snuggle time, and I'll happily curl up right next to you (okay, maybe on top of you) whenever possible. Personal space? Never heard of it! I get along wonderfully with other dogs, so if you have furry friends at home, we'll be best buddies in no time. What I really need is a family who can give me the love and security I've been craving. I promise to give you my whole heart in return. I'm looking for an active, patient family who can help me continue building my confidence and teach me even more cool tricks. Are you ready for a loyal, loving companion who will never leave your side?      December 29, 2025, 2:48 pm
