Story
Name: Lucie Age: 4 years Gender: Female Breed: Treeing Feist Weight: 22 lbs Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: No cats, please Child Friendly: Yes – older, calm, school-aged children House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Energy Level: Moderate Temperament: Playful, brilliant, sweet, motivated and intelligent Requirements: Not suited for rental living; fenced-in yard required Adoption Fee: $375 + tax To adopt, go to: http://www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html Meet Lucie – A Little Dog with a Big Heart When we first met Lucie, we thought she was a Jack Russell Terrier mix. Her energy, intelligence, and curiosity certainly fit the bill! But thanks to her original adoption paperwork, we learned she’s actually a Treeing Feist—a true working dog with a big personality packed into a small body. Treeing Feists were bred to hunt and “tree” small game, which means they are alert, intelligent, driven, and expressive. They use their voices to communicate, and Lucie is no exception—she can be vocal, especially when she’s excited, alerting you to something interesting, or eager to join in the action. Because of this (and her working-dog instincts), Lucie is not well suited for apartment or rental living and will thrive in a home that understands and appreciates these natural behaviors. Lucie strongly reflects her breed traits. She’s curious, people-focused, and always ready to engage with the world around her. While she enjoys play and outdoor adventures, she also has a wonderful off-switch and is happy to relax once her needs are met. A home that can provide structure, enrichment, and regular outdoor time will help Lucie shine. Lucie came to us after her previous owner had to move into a nursing home, and her family wasn’t able to keep her. It’s clear she was deeply loved—she’s house-trained, crate-trained, food-motivated, and has excellent house manners. She’ll sit by the door when she needs to go outside and prefers to keep her people within sight at all times. Lucie enjoys playing with her larger foster brother but prefers calmer, respectful play. True to her Treeing Feist roots, she loves exploring the yard, going on long sniffy walks, and engaging her senses. She also happens to be a total water girland happily splashes whenever she gets the chance! Her short brindle-and-white coat and expressive ears make her as charming as she is striking. Some things to know about Lucie: No cats or small animals – strong prey drive typical of Treeing Feists Can be vocal, especially when excited or alerting May do best with a calm dog companion or as your one-and-only Loves water, outdoor time, and exploration Needs a fenced yard and a home that understands working-dog Treeing Feist traits From Lucie: “Things have changed a lot for me lately, and I’ll admit—I’ve been a little unsure. But I’m not letting it stop me from having fun! I love racing around the yard, going for walks, and seeing what this new world has to offer. When play gets too rowdy, I just find my person for some reassurance. Inside, I’m happy to curl up, chew a bone, or keep watch out the window. I may have something to say now and then—but it’s all part of who I am. I’m ready for my next adventure—with a forever family of my own.” If Lucie sounds like the perfect match for your home and heart—and you’re excited to share life with a smart, vocal, working-breed Treeing Feist—we’d love to introduce you!       December 14, 2025, 3:20 pm

They recently made the journey to Minnesota and are now looking for their second chance with a loving family. Black Jack is a very affectionate boy who loves to relax with his foster dad—especially in the recliner, where he’ll happily snuggle up for naps. He’s easygoing, well-mannered, and lives peacefully with five other dogs. He goes into his kennel willingly and already knows some basic commands. With his long legs, we suspect he may have some Great Dane in his mix! Black Jack will make a wonderful addition to a family looking for a gentle, loyal companion. About Me (from Black Jack): Hello, Minnesota! It was a long trip to get here, but I’m so happy to be in my new state! I was cared for by kind folks at HASRA in Alabama, where I got as much love as possible—even with 50 other dogs around. My sister and I are both here now, and I’m ready to find my forever family! My foster dad lets me jump into the recliner with him, and I fall asleep almost instantly—it feels so good to be safe and cozy. I know “sit,” “stay,” and “down,” and I have so much fun playing with the five dogs in my foster home. I can’t wait to meet my new family and start our life together. Please fill out an application so we can meet soon! Till then—enjoy life!     November 21, 2025, 4:22 pm

He greets every dog he meets with a big “hello,” often by trying to lick their mouths to make friends. He absolutely loves being petted—his tail and whole backside wiggle with excitement whenever he’s getting attention. Awesome enjoys curling up in the recliner with his foster dad and gets along wonderfully with the five other dogs in the home. He’s still getting used to being kenneled but has done well when left on the porch unattended, showing great manners for such a young pup. He’s only had one accident in the house so far and is learning quickly. This handsome boy has the coolest ears and the most beautiful eyes, which really make him stand out. Found as a stray in Alabama, he spent much of his early life outside but is quickly learning how wonderful indoor life can be. Smart, loving, and eager to please, Awesome is sure to live up to his name! About Me (from Awesome): Hi everyone! I’m loving Minnesota so far! I live with five other dogs, and we play and run around all day long. I’m still a puppy, so after all that fun, I crash hard and fall asleep right away. My foster dad lets me snuggle up in the recliner with him, and I love it! Sometimes he even sleeps out on the porch with me and my two foster buddies—I like to sleep right by his feet. If you Google “Carolina Brown Dog,” you’ll see that we’re known for being loyal and loving, with our ears standing tall and our bright, beautiful eyes. I can’t wait to find a family of my own to go on adventures with, learn new things, and soak up all the love I can. Can’t wait to meet you!  Love, Awesome  November 6, 2025, 2:42 pm

Stella is a Collie/Terrier mix with the sweetest personality and a goofy, joyful charm — what’s not to love? She’s still discovering the world and learning quickly as she explores new experiences with confidence and curiosity. Stella is currently working on her leash manners and potty training and makes progress every day. She does best with a consistent routine — regular potty breaks after meals, naps, and play sessions help her stay on track. With patient guidance and plenty of encouragement, she’s building great habits. Like many puppies, she loves to chew, so she’ll thrive with sturdy toys and bones that keep her busy and happy. Her favorite pastimes? Playing in the leaves and bounding through the snow! Stella can spend ages pouncing, rolling, and exploring outside in any season. Because of that, she’d do best in a home with a backyard where she can stretch her legs and enjoy her adventures. If you’re looking for a sweet, silly, and loyal companion who’s eager to learn and grow with you, Stella might just be the perfect match. She can’t wait to find her forever family and start her next big adventure! About Me: Hi, I’m Stella Jane! I’m a Collie/Terrier mix with a big heart and a playful spirit. I’m still learning about this big world, but I’m catching on fast! I’m doing great with potty training, kennel training, and leash manners. A steady routine really helps me — I go outside after eating, after naps, after playtime, and anytime my people notice I’m sniffing around or showing signs I need a break. With consistency, I’m improving every day! I also love to chew, so give me some sturdy toys and I’m one happy pup! My absolute favorite things in the world are playing in the leaves and hopping through the snow — I could do it all day! I’d love a home with a backyard where I can run, play, and explore. I get along great with other dogs and can’t wait to meet a family who will love me, play with me, and help me keep learning. Love, Stella Jane                   December 6, 2025, 6:12 pm

To adopt, go to:  www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html From the Foster Family: Laddie and his sister were found as strays and spent months at a women’s home confined to a kennel together.  When Laddie first got to MN he was very afraid and hid outside for the first few days.  I can now pet him and take him for walks, and bring him to the backyard, and he comes in when called.  He wants to have people pet him, but is shy with new people.  He plays well with other dogs.  He has been in my house with 7 other dogs, and one was a 3-month-old puppy, and he did well with them.  He loves to hang out in his kennel.  He will need a patient home where he can get used to the new surroundings and feel comfortable.  On our walks, he displays a good nose for scents and loves seeing the birds in the field.  He is on the smaller side for a Lab and will be a very nice dog given some time. About Me:  I can’t believe how long that drive was to MN.  I am really happy to be here, even though at first I seemed very scared.  I’ve had a lot of things happen to me in my first year of life.  I am looking for a family that will take time with me and show me what a dog is supposed to do. HASRA saved myself my sister and me from living in that kennel for months on Christmas Day.  What a relief that was.  Now I am in MN and determined to find that family that will bring the best out of me.  Please think about filling out an application, and let's meet!  Thanks Laddie December 6, 2025, 9:31 pm
