Story
Reika is a sweet dog. I don’t really want to rehome her, but we live in the country, she is our outdoor dog and she likes to roam. I can kennel her but feel that’s no life for a dog. She needs a home that she can be with her person and give them all kinds of love and cuddles. Even tho she spends the majority of her time outside, she is potty trained as she sleeps in our garage at night and she did stay in the house with us when she was a pup. She can be somewhat protective, barking at certain people but she’s never been aggressive.

Story
Vader is a 43-lb pit bull mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He came to BENCHS alongside several other dogs and has already shown just how resilient and loving he is. Vader sustained a broken femur in his previous home. We had originally thought he would need the leg amputated but after the most current x-ray he has healed nicely not requiring the surgery. But he will need pain support as he gets older. This guy can be dog selective, but for the most part seems dog-friendly. Slow introductions are needed. He is very active, and full of excitement for life. He would benefit from a non-reactive dog that can help him navigate life in a calm fashion. His excitement for attention is intense. He would benefit from continued positive outlets for his energy. When Vader arrived at BENCHS, he was underweight. With proper care, nutrition, and love, he has already gained an impressive 16.8 pounds and watching him thrive has been nothing short of amazing. Vader is proof that resilience comes in many forms. He’s searching for a compassionate home that will stand by him through healing and beyond — and in return, he’ll offer loyalty, joy, and an unbreakable bond. 🖤 Vader is ready for his next chapter — are you the one to write it with him?

Story
Born around March 13, 2026, this sweet little boy is part of an unexpected litter that came to us when his family found themselves without the resources to care for the puppies. While his start in life was unplanned, his future is already looking bright. He is believed to be a mix of Great Pyrenees, Mini Aussie, Lab, and Spaniel (DNA results pending), which means he has the potential to grow into a beautiful blend of intelligence, loyalty, and playful energy. Based on this mix, these puppies will likely grow into large dogs. Right now, he is right in the heart of puppyhood, full of curiosity, learning, and those adorable bursts of zoomies that make this stage so special. He and his siblings are currently thriving in foster care, where they are getting a strong start with socialization, daily routines, and lots of love. Like all young puppies, he will need guidance, patience, and consistency as he continues to grow. He is looking for an indoor home where he can be part of the family, with people who are ready to invest the time and love it takes to raise a well-rounded dog. He will likely be ready to go to his new home between 10–12 weeks of age, which places his estimated adoption window between May 22 and June 6, 2026. We are currently accepting applications. Approved adopters will also have the option to pre-pay to reserve a specific puppy from the litter. If you are ready for the commitment, and all the joy that comes with it, this little boy may be the perfect addition to your home.

Not good with cats, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Don’t let the name fool you. This handsome boy is all dog, all heart, and full of personality. Kitty came to BENCHS as an unclaimed stray from the City of Mankato, and we have since learned more about his background to help us find the right match for him moving forward. Kitty was previously known as Houston and was rehomed in May 2025. He lived as an indoor dog and did well with people, including children ages 8 to 14. He was crate trained overnight, rides well in the car, and enjoys human attention. He is a smart dog who can open certain doors and may slip out of a tie out if it is not secure, so supervision and good management will be important. Kitty weighs about 68 pounds and was born on April 20, 2023. He is a young, energetic dog with a lot of enthusiasm for life and enjoys showing off the commands he already knows. In his previous home, Kitty lived with dogs and did well with a spayed female, but he was involved in a serious incident with an intact male dog. Because of this history, Kitty is dog selective and would do best as the only dog in the home or with careful, experienced placement. He also has a high prey drive and should not live with cats, chickens, or other small animals. Kitty is a bright, powerful young dog who will need a home that can provide structure, clear boundaries, and continued training. With the right environment and guidance, he has the potential to be a loyal and rewarding companion. If you are an experienced dog owner looking for a confident, intelligent dog and are prepared to meet Kitty’s needs, he may be the right fit for you.

Story
Grandpa Meatball arrived at BENCHS as a stray, so we do not know much about his past. What we do know is that this little senior has a very big personality and an even bigger love for people. Grandpa Meatball does have chronic dry eye, which means he requires daily eye drops and regular cleaning to keep him comfortable. Our team provides his eye care multiple times a day, and he handles it like a champ. His slightly crusty eyes are simply part of who he is, and we think they add to his unique charm. He is incredibly people oriented and absolutely adores attention. If you sit down near him, there is a very good chance he will scoot closer, climb into your space, and make himself right at home beside you. Personal space is not really his thing, he prefers to be close to the people he loves. When he is not seeking affection, Grandpa Meatball enjoys relaxing with soft blankets, stuffed animals, and cozy beds. He also has a very impressive sploot, stretching out on the floor and showing off his adorable little toad-like back legs. Because he can get a bit enthusiastic with affection, Grandpa Meatball would do best in a home without other pets or small children. He would thrive with someone who appreciates a dog that is deeply devoted, affectionate, and full of personality. Grandpa Meatball may be a little quirky, but that is exactly what makes him so special. He is loving, funny, and wonderfully unique, and for the right person he is going to be an incredibly loyal companion. If you are looking for a dog who will make you laugh, keep you company, and love you with his whole heart, Grandpa Meatball might just be your guy
