Story
My name`s Shenzee--named after the hyena from The Lion King because of my beloved large ears. All the better to hear you with! I`m holding my own at the shelter as best as I can but I`m more than ready to take on the next adventure in a warm loving furrever home. With my energetic confident personality, I`m looking for a challenge, a job, or an active household that can put me to work. Wherever you go, I`ll follow! A mountain hike, a dog-friendly grocery store, a park, a car, the pool, the beach, a boat (I absolutely love the water), probably even the pits of Hell because I`ll be your ride-or-die rest assured. After getting out my energy, I love to relax with a good hearty chew-safe bone to wind down next to my favorite people.

Story
This 5-year-old sweetheart came to us from local animal control after surviving a domestic violence situation. Despite her tough past, she has nothing but love to give and is ready to start her new chapter surrounded by kindness. Her foster mom describes her as a snuggle bug who loves curling up under blankets, giving kisses, and always being close to her people. She enjoys watching the world out the window, greeting visitors, and playing gently with kids. She gets along well with other dogs and even cats, and she’s happiest when she knows she’s not alone. Jezzabelle already knows several commands (sit, down, stay, come, easy) and is working on her leash manners and house training. She loves her stuffy toys, enjoys a good bath, and calms nicely with music when she’s feeling a little anxious. Jezzabelle’s perfect family will be one that offers her a quiet, patient home where she can blossom and build her confidence at her own pace. She has done very well with the dog in her foster home so we believe she would do well with a calm canine brother. And her unique name? Those double “Zs” were chosen in honor of Ozzy Osbourne’s passing — a little nod to resilience, strength, and rock ‘n roll spirit. After everything she’s been through, Jezzabelle is ready for the safe, loving forever home she deserves. Could that be with you?

Story
Jakar is a gorgeous, enthusiastic guy that was found roaming the streets of Queens, NYC. He was then brought to the New York Animal Care Centers, the New York City Municipal shelter where he started to deteriorate. The shelter is a very stressful place. It's so crowded and many dogs don't make it out. Jakar is lucky that an amazing woman stepped up to save his life. These are Jakar's STATS Jakar Address: Newark, NJ Approximate age: 1 yo Approximate weight: 54 pounds Breed (s): pit bull mix Spayed or neutered?: Yes, neutered Good with: People and Dogs (no experience with kids or cats) kids?: no known experience strangers?: Yes other dogs?: Yes cats?: no known experience On leash?: Loose, moderate pulling Housetrained?: Yes Crate trained?: Yes UTD on vaccinations and microchipped. Jakar has been in a board and training program for THREE MONTHS, honing his skills and being the best boy he can be. He is mastering all there is in training! Jakar is a young cane corso mix looking for his perfect match. Jakar came to Personal Paws for some much needed education. Throughout his stay he’s been working on.. well, just being a dog! In his past in-devours he’s been tossed around and held back A LOT. Pounds Hounds Rescue, an amazing organization reached out to set Jakar up for success in hopes of finding his forever people. Taking the TIME and getting to know Jakar, I’ve unlocked a lot of amazing qualities. He’s not only a kind soul but he is genuine. He loves to love and give 100% to his people. He also loves to chase and play. Jakar loves to rip zoomies which will make you cry laughing!! He’s fully crate trained and is working on intermediate and advanced obedience along with proper socialization while residing at Personal Paws in upstate NY. Jakar comes with FREE training to transfer education over properly to his new owners. New owners will be provided nutritional guidelines along with a daily structured schedule to keep up with all training expectations. Jakar is medium/high energy and is looking to be the only animal to start while he gets adjusted to a home environment. This requires patience and consistent training. He would do best in a home that is active and enjoys adventures as much as he does. A home that has older children that can participate in training and play time. Jakar is an absolute love bug and truly wants to show off how much he has to offer. He just need a solid leader who can commit and set him up for success long term. Jakar is ready to find his forever folks!! Let’s find this handsome gentleman the home of his dreams! Jakar's future home should be one that will provide a safe, loving and caring environment. He is a smart boy who LOVES getting pets from people. His favorite thing at the moment is people watching: he will sit, preferably on a patch of grass, and watch people go by for hours if you let him. Jakar doesn’t have any issues that can’t be improved on. He likes being with people and will complain if left alone, with that characteristic pit bull cry. He also loves to play mouthy and will jump up on people because he gets over-excited. However, in the two weeks he has been in his foster home, he has improved significantly and continues to make remarkable progress day by day. Have those blue beautiful eyes caught your attention yet? They sure have caught ours! At only 1 y.o, Jakar has had a hard life, but despite all the hardships he has been through, he managed to keep his spirit intact. He is a social boy with people and dogs but is a bit timid when introduced to new objects or environments (but who isn’t, right?). Whether it's an elevator or a Roomba, Jakar has shown us that with a little bravery, he can conquer any fear. Jakar is one smart cookie! He already knows commands like “sit” and “leave it,” and he'll happily watch you cook from his designated spot—all for the bargain price of one treat! (He might have insisted I include that part.) He’s working hard on his leash manners and, with just a few gentle corrections, walks like a champ. Though he's crate-trained, Jakar isn’t the biggest fan of long stints in there. Having spent much of his young life crated, he advocates for his freedom like a true Newark native! He is house and crate trained but hasn’t learned to hold it for more than 5 hours (He asked me to remove that part, he says it’s embarrassing). Athletic and energetic, Jakar loves his walks and is obsessed with his flirt pole. A true champion chewer, he holds his chew toys in high regard. While he enjoys a good game of tug-of-war, Jakar doesn't t guard his belongings and will happily let you take anything from him—even his food. He also LOVES observing humans and nature. For the time being he enjoys taking his breakfast at the park, it’s like tv dinner for dogs! Friendly with people and dogs, Jakar is a social butterfly. On walks, he’ll sit patiently, waiting for someone to approach him for a pet (he might even cry if someone skips him!). While he hasn’t had much direct contact with kids, cats, or other animals, he’s shown no signs of aggression when observing them from a distance. Despite his good behavior, slow introductions to people and pets is a must for adoptable dogs, like Jakar. Once left to fend for himself, Jakar hasn’t given up on people. He’s learning to be the best house dog he can be and is ready to give you all the love and wet kisses in the world. Just like that on song (sorta) says: “If you gave him a chance…

Story
this handsome pup is already showing the world what a special soul he is. Ampersand is learning all about life in a home — from potty training and crate training to the joy of playtime and cuddles. With a little structure, he’s working hard and making progress every day. But what makes him truly unique is his heart. His foster mom says he has a gift for knowing when people need a little extra love. Whether it’s bringing joy to strangers at the farmers market, comforting someone who’s hurting, or simply curling up for snuggles, Ampersand has a way of connecting that feels beyond his young age. He’s gentle with kids, friendly with other dogs, and curious about the world as he continues to come out of his shell after his shelter days. Ampersand is still growing into himself, but one thing is certain — he’s going to make an incredible companion for the family lucky enough to call him theirs.

Story
Oca needs a family! One of the local shelters we pull from shared reports of Oca roaming a Greensboro neighborhood near a local college campus for several days. Neighbors said he was happy to accept treats from anyone who offered, but he’d quickly dart away if they tried to touch him. At just 7 months old, his limited experience made him shy around people - but time spent playing with other dogs has helped him blossom! He’s now running and playing when initially he wouldn’t. He’s being the silly puppy he couldn’t be on the streets…like playing with your shoelaces, tossing toys in the air and awing you when he wants attention or another treat! Oca is 51.0lbs., heartworm negative and up to date on his vaccines.
