When he first arrived, I thought he was much older and that he would be a hospice case. He was stiff and frozen in fear and skinny. He would barely move. I put him in a kennel with younger dogs and he soon found his youthful spirit again and is like a different dog now. I don't know his age for sure but he has lots of life and happiness left in him and I think he is younger than 8. He weighs about 60 lbs now. He learned how to climb out of the 6 ft chain link kennel but he doesn't stray far from it except to follow me on walks. He goes down the pond to take a dip but mostly just hangs out by the kennel. So while he has the skills of a husky to escape, he doesn't have the urge of a husky to run off and go explore. I don't even put him up when I leave because he doesn't go anywhere. He is great with other dogs but sometimes doesn't know how big he is so he wouldn't be good around scared little dogs. Not because he would hurt them, but because they might get scared of him. He is fine with my chihuahuas but they are very bossy and not scared of anything. For that reason, I also don't think he should be around cats. To be clear, he is not aggressive at all, he just tries to play with everything and with his size that just wouldn't work with a dog or cats that's scared of him. He is very food motivated and walks well on the leash as well. He is an awesome boy and I am glad he didn't die at the kill shelter. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative). Story
Meet Storm — a stunning, blue-eyed 14-year-old Husky with the sweetest spirit. Storm may be a senior, but she’s full of charm, personality, and that classic Husky spark. She lights up when she’s outside and absolutely must have a secure yard where she can explore, sunbathe, and enjoy her day. It’s her happy place, and she thrives with that freedom. Storm is healthy, recently updated on vaccines, and has clear bloodwork. She’s gentle, social, and loves being near her people — the perfect easygoing companion for a calm home. Her owners relocated and were unable to take her with them, so she’s now searching for someone who will adore her and give her the peaceful, outdoor-filled life she deserves. If you want a loving, beautiful Husky with lots of heart, Storm is ready to be your sweetest senior adventure buddy.

Story
My name is Olive! I'm a Husky - Shepard mix and I'm about 3 months old. I'm quite the goofball when I get excited and have an adorable hop that seems to make people laugh. Potty training is going great, and I love positive rewards.  I get along great with kids and love to play with other dogs! I love the game of fetch, and playing tug of war.  I am unsure about new people and places, but when I warm up I really like the attention and love. I'm also new to the couch experience, and I have to say I really enjoy it! I hope to find a family who will be patient with me and help me build confidence, maybe take me to training classes and socialize me lots! I'm probably going to be a medium dog when I grow up, I'm up to date on vaccinations and fostered in Lakewood, CO.  Please fill out an application to come meet me! ##2577648##

Story
Luka was found by a Good Samaritan while at work in the rural town of Wortham, Texas, but they couldn't keep him, so he was surrendered to the small local shelter. Unfortunately Luka, and all the animals at the shelter, have little prospects as the shelter does little to no adoptions. There is a small group of individuals in Wortham that work tirelessly to network (and vet, on a very limited budget) these animals to foster-based rescues in and out of Texas that are willing to consider them. Red Fern was contacted by one of these volunteers who, together with her high school daughter, go to the holding facility every day to walk the dogs, socialize them, take them to the vet, and just spend quality time with them. Luka is very outgoing and active and truly has a great personality. He LOVES to play with other dogs. His best friend is a German Shepherd named Trixie who is also available for adoption, so if you're looking for a pair- you've found them! From the shelter volunteer who asked us to save these dogs: "He absolutely loves my daughter, she’s 15; every time he sees her he starts talking and talking and talking and he’s just so full of excitement when he sees her- he’s like a big child. Once he knows he’s safe, he is so loyal. He has gotten out of the main door a few times and it was just because he wanted to be by me. He could’ve ran away at any moment but he doesn’t, he stays right by my side- very, very loyal. He is the welcoming committee to all the new dogs. Every new dog that comes in is usually scared and he always goes to their kennel to comfort them. He’s quirky. He’s funny. He’s silly. He’s so cute. It makes up for the naughty things he does."  On that note, a couple things... typical Husky, Luka does not like to be enclosed in a small area for any length of time, he will dig out or climb a fence, so a strong plan in place is needed to keep him safe, secure and with you! He is also destructive to loose objects- keep them secure! Once you figure out what chews and toys and activities he likes, Luka should be able to be redirected to these instead. Shots up to date:  Yes  Fixed?  Yes, neutered Good with other dogs?  Yes Cats?  Unknown  Kids?  Yes Potty trained?  Unknown  Crate trained?  Unknown  Leash trained?  Yes Special needs?  Typical Husky- requires a yard with a tall, secure fence that he cannot climb. Luka has made the journey from San Antonio, Texas to Colorado and is being fostered in Denver, available to meet! Red Fern Animal Rescue offers a two week foster to adopt trial in your home before finalizing the adoption to ensure the animal is the right fit for you, everyone in the home, human & animal, and vice versa. Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio. ##2566996##
