Story
**Meet Ora Saturday, December 13th from 10 to 1 at Dublin Petsmart west, 6960 Amador Plaza Rd.** Meet Ora, a nine pound, little bundle of fluff and energy. Ora loves to play and explore all day. She can jump quite high and stand on her hind legs. With training, she will be able to do some cute tricks. Ora is very friendly with another small dog and rabbit at her foster house. She loves to wrestle, chase and play tug with the dog. She is curious and gentle with the bunny. Ora’s favorite is people. She loves to be held. She follows her foster mom everywhere. She is eager to greet all guests. So far, without barking. Ora doesn’t love the crate but she will travel and sleep in it quietly (except for her snoring). She seems to have bladder control for about 4-5 hours so she has been mostly sleeping in a larger crate with both a bed and a pee pad. During the day, Ora is learning to potty outside. She also uses pee pads pretty well inside. Ora loves to be groomed. She will lie down patiently while her coat is combed out. Something that needs to be done frequently. She is a friendly, playful, curious puppy who will make a wonderful addition to a home willing to put in the time. She is spayed, current on vaccines and microchipped. If you're interested in Ora, you can submit an application by clicking the "Apply For Adoption" box located below her photos on the right side. Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, December 13th from 12-3pm unless adopted prior to the event. To be considered for adoption, pls submit an application in advance.   Adoption Fee: $550 **Kitten is available for Foster-to-Adopt!** Breed: Maltese–Shih Tzu mix Age: 5 years old Weight: 11.6 lbs Coat: Non-shedding Her name may be Kitten, but this 5 year old Maltese–Shih Tzu mix is 100% dog—adorably fluffy, quietly loyal, and full of surprising little joys. She was rescued from the shelter, and after a slow, careful start, she’s been blossoming into the kind of dog who makes your heart swell with every small step forward. Kitten is a gentle soul who takes her time to trust, but once she does, she becomes a loyal little shadow—especially to her favorite humans. In her current foster home, she’s built a sweet and special bond with her 10-year-old human buddy, and the two have become a devoted fetch-playing duo. She’s also warming up to younger kids and has begun seeking pets and connection on her own terms. With the people she trusts, she is affectionate, playful, and full of personality. Her daily routine is peaceful and predictable—just how she likes it. She wakes up early and heads outside for a potty break, enjoys some morning playtime, then settles into her crate for a long nap. Mealtimes are relaxed, and she has plenty of quiet time in between spurts of play and affection. Evenings are her favorite, when she gets the zoomies and enthusiastically chases toys with her favorite girl. Kitten is house-trained, sleeps calmly in her crate, and communicates when she needs to go outside. She’s playful but not demanding, cuddly but not clingy. She’s still learning to feel safe around new people and visitors, and while she’s made great strides, she’ll always do best in a calm home where her people understand that some dogs need time to feel safe. While she’s making progress around other dogs (and can ignore them on leash in the yard), she’s not comfortable sharing her space with them and is protective of her pen. Kitten must be the only pet in her home. With professional support and time, she may eventually feel more neutral around dogs, but right now she needs a home where she can feel completely secure and not have to share her space or her people. Kitten’s ideal home is quiet, structured, and patient. She doesn’t need a lot—just someone who can offer routine, security, and a lot of love on her terms. She’s not a dog for someone expecting instant affection, but for the right person, she’s a deeply rewarding companion who offers a special kind of devotion. If you’re someone who finds beauty in the quiet moments, and joy in the slow unfolding of trust, Kitten may be the perfect match. She doesn’t need fireworks. She just needs someone to see her, to give her the space she needs, and to celebrate each step she takes toward love.    December 12, 2025, 3:44 am

To be considered for adoption, pls submit an application in advance.   Adoption fee: $750 Butterbeer is a 2 year old, 11-pound Maltipoo who came to us from the shelter and has fully embraced life as a cherished little housemate. He is gentle, affectionate, funny without trying, and has the perfect balance of independence and companionship.   Daily Routine & Home Life   Butterbeer would happily spend every hour of the day right next to his person. If you sit, he sits; if you lounge, he lounges. He sleeps overnight in his x-pen without issue, although if given the option, he’d much prefer a cozy bed or the couch.   Mornings begin with a burst of enthusiasm: zoomies, snacks, and his much-loved walk. After that, his favorite activity resumes— napping. He rotates between his bed, a patch of sunlight, or your side on the couch. Occasionally he needs the motivational “click” of the leash to remind him it’s time to get up, but once he’s outside, he happily trots along.   Personality   When he first arrived, Butterbeer was easygoing but kept a little distance while figuring things out. Now that he knows he is safe, he has become a charming blend of independent and velcro. He adores being near his person but is also content napping downstairs while you work. He is affectionate, sweet-natured, and absolutely a snuggler. If he senses an opportunity to curl up next to someone, he’ll find a way to get there— literally. His foster once put him back in his pen to return to bed, only to discover minutes later that Butterbeer had escaped and was snuggled beside them. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.   Other Animals & People   He lives with an older Shih Tzu named Benji, and the two get along wonderfully. They nap together, share treats, and coexist peacefully. Butterbeer has also greeted other dogs on walks with perfect manners, preferring calm, friendly introductions. He has not shown any concerning behavior around people and is gentle and welcoming.   Energy Level & Playfulness   Butterbeer is proudly a couch potato. He enjoys his daily walk and takes it seriously, but his true calling is relaxing in soft places. He is the kind of dog who makes doing nothing feel like an activity.   Leash Manners   He has excellent leash manners— steady, polite, and easy to walk. No pulling, no chasing squirrels, and no unnecessary barking. He’s happy to greet other dogs as long as they aren’t overly exuberant.     Housetraining Exceptionally good. After a day of settling in and figuring things out, he has been perfect. He keeps his x-pen and crate clean, goes when taken on walks, and recently mastered the doggie door.   Behavior in the Home   He does not chew, dig, or bark excessively. He is respectful, quiet, and wonderfully well-mannered. His foster describes him as simply sweet.   Ideal Home   Truly any loving home. Butterbeer is adaptable, gentle, and affectionate. He loves companionship and warmth, but he isn’t demanding. He would fit into many lifestyles and family types.   Special Notes   Butterbeer is becoming somewhat of a treat connoisseur. He has opinions, preferences, and the confidence of a dog who knows he was born to be adored. He is gentle, social, and completely free of aggression. He is, in every way, a little prince.   Why You’ll Fall in Love   Butterbeer’s sweetness is effortless. His calm presence, his desire to be close, and his thoroughly charming antics—like escaping his x-pen just to wedge himself beside his foster— make him a dog who brings warmth into every room. He is affectionate, easy, loving, and ready to become someone’s cherished companion.December 12, 2025, 3:44 am

Meet Top Hat — The Little Gentleman With Big Potential Age: 2 years old Breed: Maltipoo Weight: 12 lbs Coat: Nonshedding Good with dogs: Absolutely! Top Hat may be small, fluffy, and adorable, but let us be perfectly clear: This charming Maltipoo needs a home where humans run the show, not him. Who Top Hat Really Is Top Hat is a smart, sensitive little guy who absolutely thrives when he knows someone else is confidently calling the shots. When he first came to us, he was wound tight—fearful, reactive, unsure who to trust. But with structure, leadership, and consistency, this dog transformed. He now looks to his person for direction. He listens. He relaxes. He wants to please. Give him rules, and he blossoms. Let him be in charge… and he’ll book a one-way ticket to Chaosville. His Secret Sauce? A Trainer Who Cracked the Code. Our amazing trainer quickly figured out exactly what Top Hat needs: Calm but confident leadership Clear direction Quick corrections when needed Lots of praise when he gets it right She has taught him to accept handling, ignore his reactive impulses, and focus on his person. He is incredibly receptive and wants desperately to be a good boy — he just needs someone to show him how. We are so committed to his success that we will waive his adoption fee if the adopter signs up for a minimum of 4 sessions with his current trainer. She’ll teach you his language and set both of you up for a lifetime of success. Who He Needs Top Hat needs an adopter who:Isn’t intimidated by a dog with opinionsCan follow a trainer’s guidanceHas experience or is willing to learnWill commit to structure, routine, and clear rulesIs confident, calm, and consistent He is NOT a dog for someone who wants to spoil him, coddle him, or let him “just be cute.” He is not a decorative accessory. He is a dog with tremendous potential — the right owner will see him become the affectionate, funny, loyal little companion he’s meant to be. Who He Is When He Feels Safe With leadership and boundaries, Top Hat is:SweetLovingPlayfulDog-friendlyAttentiveA total goofball with the people he trusts A truly magical dog has emerged now that he finally feels safe. To be considered for adoption, pls submit an application in advance.   Adoption fee: $800 Meet Bellini   Bellini is a 5 month old Maltipoo who joined our rescue with his sister, Mimosa, after being part of an accidental litter. He weighs about 10 lbs and is equal parts adorable, clever, and endlessly entertaining. Bellini is a young pup with a big personality, a growing set of skills, and a natural curiosity about the world around him.   Daily Routine Bellini starts his morning between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m., waking up slowly with long stretches and a few minutes of relaxed lounging in his crate. After a quick potty break, he has breakfast— half served on a lick mat to slow down his enthusiastic eating, and the rest used for training. Bellini already knows sit, down, paw, place, spin, and an endearing “beep beep,” which means back up.   He takes another potty break between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., depending on when he last ate. Evenings include a longer walk between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner, which his foster turns into a sniff-and-find kibble game. Throughout the day, he gets small potty breaks based on how much he has eaten or had to drink.   Personality On his first day, Bellini was quiet as he took in his new environment, but he was never shy or fearful. His natural confidence emerged quickly—he seems to know he’s cute, and he carries himself like it. He enjoys snuggles when he’s in the mood but is generally more curious and adventurous than cuddly.   On walks, he is wary of large or loud moving vehicles but happily sniffs every parked car. He sometimes barks at tiny low bushes, possibly mistaking them for something mysterious. He hasn’t barked at other dogs and usually just shows interest. Squirrels and birds, however, receive full attention, and he has occasionally barked at people too. Indoors, he’s discovered that fish are surprisingly amusing and worth barking at.   Social Skills Bellini lives in a home without other dogs or cats, but he does bark at his foster’s fish when he notices them. He hasn’t met children yet. His overall temperament suggests he may do fine with proper introductions and continued positive experiences.   Energy & Playfulness Bellini is very food motivated and eager to please, which makes training fun and rewarding. He is curious about everything and gets bursts of energy after walks—especially his “post-poop zoomies.” With treats in hand, he is focused, enthusiastic, and ready to learn.   Leash Walking Leash walking started off as a confusing experience for Bellini, followed by a zigzag phase. Now, he walks much more smoothly and even pauses to wait if his foster lags behind. He shows interest in other dogs but saves his barks for squirrels, birds, and the occasional person.   Housetraining & Crate Training Bellini is still learning potty training. His foster takes him out frequently on a schedule. Crate training is underway— he prefers small spaces and cool surfaces when he sleeps.   Behaviors Bellini is a chewer and still teething, so appropriate chew toys are important. He does not dig. He generally doesn’t bark when someone enters the home or when the doorbell rings, unless he’s startled awake from a nap. He has discovered his “big boy bark,” which he uses on fish and on nighttime walks when the world looks extra mysterious.   What Makes Bellini Special Bellini is undeniably adorable, but it’s his unique little imperfections that make him unforgettable. He has a tiny bald pink patch on his snout with markings that resemble a miniature cow. He enjoys being brushed—unless you dare tug too hard on a knot—and loves napping in the laundry room. His personality is quirky, funny, and full of charm.   Bellini is sweet, smart, silly, and ready for a home that will appreciate his personality as much as his cuteness.December 12, 2025, 3:44 am
