Story
This sweet girl was raised by a very loving elderly woman who basically never left the dog alone ….ever. The dog is currently on a very healthy diet and walking 2 times a day. She was eating human food and sitting in a couch all day and being held most of the day. Will be a wonderful pet after learning to be alone and some other training. I am a week into changing all of these habits but can’t devote the time needed.

Story
If you’re looking for a mutt who is part couch potato, have we got the Maltese-Shi Tzu mix for you! Cedar is a sweet senior boy who may be a little vision impaired but manages to find his way around just fine. Does he smell like Cedar chips? You’ll have to meet him to find out, but he can certainly plant himself like a Cedar when he’s in a good spot for snuggles! You’ll see him wiggling about as he makes his way through Muttville, but he likes to keep his walkies short and his naps long. He is a great couch companion, though, and he promises to never hog the remote! He’ll even let you pick the shows! Are you looking for a stalwart snuggle-buddy like Cedar? Here's some notes from his foster: Cedar is a quiet, calm and shy gentle dog. He loves scritches and will readily roll over for belly rubs while in his doggie bed - he’ll lie in that position for long periods of time. He tends to be a lounger, but he’ll perk to going outdoors for short doggie led walks to do his business. Even with limited vision, he’ll cautiously navigate up/down steps when he needs to. He is potty trained. Cedar is not a fan of baths, grooming clippers, very loud devices such as vacuums. He is a sweet pie. He does of with children.

All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, May 30th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event. To be considered for adoption, please submit an application in advance at https://www.dpsrescue.org/adopt/dog-application/. Adoption fee: $750 Twinkie is living proof that the snack aisle got it right: tiny, sweet, slightly dramatic, and impossible to resist. At just 10 pounds, this adorable 1-2 year old little Morkie has somehow mastered the art of being both a dainty princess and the self-appointed ruler of every bed, chair, and cozy blanket in the house. Bonus: she's low-shedding, so the furniture she steals will stay (mostly) fur-free. Rescued from a shelter and now thriving in foster care, Twinkie is ready to find a forever family who appreciates a dog with personality, opinions, and elite snuggling skills.   Morning Routine: Powered by Snuggles and School Drop-Offs   Twinkie starts her day around 6:30am with a quick potty trip outside before immediately returning to what she considers her true profession: professional cuddler. She loves curling up in one of the family’s beds or beside her people on the couch for an early morning nap session.   One of the highlights of her day is helping with school drop-offs. She gets very excited for the car ride and takes her role as emotional support passenger seriously. Saying goodbye, however, is not her favorite activity. On the drive home, she may offer a few tiny cries to express her disappointment that her favorite humans did not, in fact, come back immediately.   Around 10am, it’s time for one of her beloved walks. Twinkie absolutely lights up when the leash comes out, complete with tiny excited yelps that sound suspiciously like a squeaky toy discovering espresso. After her walk, she’ll nibble at breakfast, lounge dramatically, and recharge for the important business of greeting the girls after school later in the afternoon.   Once everyone is home again, Twinkie settles into pure contentment. Evening walks, dinner, couch lounging, and bedtime complete her daily schedule. She sleeps beautifully through the night and would love to sleep in bed with her humans, though she’ll also happily settle into a comfy dog bed nearby if it meets her very high Goldilocks-approved standards.   Personality: Equal Parts Sugar, Sass, and Sentimentality   When Twinkie first arrived in foster care, she was shy and quiet. That phase lasted approximately five minutes.   As she became comfortable, her wonderfully expressive personality began to shine. Twinkie is incredibly communicative and seems convinced that humans should absolutely understand every one of her tiny emotional updates. She has different whines for different family members, soft little noises when she wants belly rubs, excited squeaks for walks, and dramatic commentary whenever she feels ignored for more than seven seconds.   She is affectionate without being overwhelming and loves simply being near her people. She’ll cuddle beside you on the couch, curl up in bed with you, or quietly follow you from room to room like a tiny fuzzy assistant manager. She was initially very velcro with her foster mom and still supervises bathroom trips from outside the door because privacy is apparently unnecessary now.   Twinkie is also hilariously expressive with her body language. When she wants you to follow her, she stares directly into your soul, wags her tail furiously, spins in excited little circles, and waits for you to understand the assignment.   And yes, she is a bit of a drama queen. But in the most lovable way possible.   Queen of the Household Furniture   One thing to know about Twinkie: if you stand up, you lose your seat.   This tiny dog has somehow perfected the art of instantly stealing every warm chair, couch cushion, and bed in the house. Her foster family describes her as “Goldilocks” because she carefully samples everyone’s sleeping spots before deciding which one feels just right for the evening. One minute your chair is empty. The next minute Twinkie is sprawled across it like she pays the mortgage.   She also loves squeaky toys and becomes deeply invested in figuring out where sounds come from. If she hears noises from a laptop, she will walk behind it to investigate the mysterious tiny people living inside.   Social Life and Adventures   Twinkie has been friendly and curious around other dogs. She does not bark at dogs on walks, even if they bark at her, though she may pick up her pace a little to get a closer look. She seems interested in making friends and enjoys observing the world around her.   Cats, however, are another story. The neighborhood feral cat has officially become her greatest nemesis. Twinkie transforms from sweet pastry to tiny security alarm the moment she spots one in the yard. Because of this, she may do best in a cat-free home, though a calm and confident cat could potentially help her learn better manners over time.   She has done well with teenagers and enjoys being around kids who understand how to give her space while she warms up. If she feels unsure, she’ll simply move away or give a brief bark to communicate her boundaries.   Walks, Training, and Home Manners   Twinkie is fully housetrained and has not had a single accident in foster care. She sleeps through the night beautifully and settles well into household routines.   She walks nicely on leash overall, though she can pull a little when excited. She enjoys exploring and observing everything around her but does not react badly to other dogs while out and about.   She is not destructive, does not chew or dig, and generally prefers lounging near her humans over causing chaos. The biggest thing to know is that she truly does not enjoy being left home alone for long periods. She bonds deeply with her people and would love a home where someone is around often to keep her company.   The Home Twinkie Dreams About   Twinkie would thrive in a loving home filled with affection, cozy blankets, and humans who appreciate a dog with a big personality packed into a tiny body. She would especially love a family with kids or multiple people around because being included in daily life is basically her favorite hobby.   She wants to be part of the action, part of the cuddle pile, and preferably part of whatever snack you’re eating too.   Most of all, Twinkie is looking for people who will adore her sweet, expressive nature and laugh at her constant commentary, dramatic chair stealing, and heartfelt reunion serenades.   Because just like the dessert she’s named after, Twinkie is impossibly sweet, a little ridiculous, and guaranteed to make your day better.May 27, 2026, 8:45 pm

Malti is a lovely boy. Poor Malti has been through a tough life. However, it doesn’t stop him from loving and trusting humans. He is very gentle and doesn’t have a mean bone in him. Malti is now in a foster home with other dogs and is good with big and small dogs. He is doing well in his foster home and ready for a forever home. Malti started some leash training and is learning at a good pace. He is crate trained and doing well on his house training. He rides well in the car and can wait patiently while his foster mom runs errands. Malti is a wonderful family dog. Malti’s Rescue Story Malti was rescued from a poorly run private shelter. The shelter has over 2,000 dogs living in cramped and wet environment. Malti along with her other friends were used as breeding dogs. After they were done with her, poor Malti was sent to a private shelter where she lived in a cage and never let out. A kind international rescue organization got a rescue message from a volunteer. The founder has over 160 dogs waiting for homes and didn’t have space for another dog. However, when she saw photos of the dogs suffering. She knew it was urgent to rescue them. The rescue took home 19 dogs and promised to find them forever loving homes. Malti had a thorough medical checkup. He has been neutered, vaccinated, microchip, and passed negative on his blood tests.
