Miao is a very sweet girl, she looks to be a maltese/bichon mix but this is only a best guess. She doesn't shed much. She's a bit shy to start but she warms up fairly quickly. She love her daily outside walks. Kids loves her as she's so sweet, she does fine with other dogs. SF Bay Area adoption only.

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $400   Sammy is a 10 year old Maltese x Poodle mix who was returned to DPS when his former owner was diagnosed with a terminal medical condition. No fault of Sammy at all, but we of course took Sammy back and promised to find her the best home for her golden years. Sammy has a gorgeous non-shedding coat and is an option for those with allergies.    Below is a note from Sammy’s foster home.  “Sammy is a very sweet and quiet gal. She likes to be near her people but isn’t so much a lap dog. She takes a few days to get settled into her environment, but she has also had a lot of change recently. She has been showing us more of her playful side as the days have progressed and adores chasing our fingers under a blanket like a cat! She also loves chasing us around the house. Sammy loves her walks and getting her sniffs in! Her tail never stops wagging when she gets outside!  Sammy starts her day around 5:30 AM as we are early risers. She sleeps quietly in her open crate in our room, and hops onto the bed while we watch the news and have coffee. At 7 AM, she gets a potty walk and then comes inside for breakfast. She goes outside every 3-4 hours for potty breaks and gets a few longer walks as well. She has dinner at 6 PM and then chills out until it is time for bed. Sammy is crate trained and house trained.  Sammy would do well in a quieter home where she has time to settle in. She is basically a cat in a dog body, so if you are looking for a cat you can walk, that’s Sammy! She is a bit dog-selective on walks, so she could join a home with another dog, but would prefer to be someone’s one and only. She has been fine with cats. She is good with kids as long as they aren’t too loud. Sammy loves her treats so that is a great way to win her love.”   Sammy is an option for those who have prior dog experience, even if that experience is not recent. Kids in the home should be over the age of 12.December 10, 2023, 11:42 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $800   Candy Cane is a 1 year old Maltese x Poodle mix who was rescued from the shelter. We don’t know what landed this dude in the local pound but we know that he ran right up to us as we walked by his cage and wouldn’t let us leave without him. Candy Cane has a non-shedding coat which makes him an option for those with allergies, or who want less hair around the house. Candy Cane will require regular grooming.  Candy Cane is one of those perfect dogs that you meet and think about for hours on end. He is so loving: he will cuddle for hours at a time and give nuzzles and kisses. He is so friendly: he loves playing with other dogs and playing with his toys. He is so adorable: I mean look at that face and tell us you could say no to him! Candy Cane is all around a perfect dog that you couldn’t dream of anything to make him more amazing than he is now! Candy Cane wakes up at 7 AM and leaves his crate to go outside to potty with his foster brother. He comes inside for breakfast and then spends his morning alternating between snuggling into his dog bed for a warm nap and playing with his foster bro! He gets a walk in the afternoon where his tail never stops wagging as he gets his sniffs in. In the evening after dinner he spends some time getting cuddles as his foster family winds down from the day. He goes outside for one more potty and then heads to bed.  Candy Cane gets along fabulously with dogs. He has not met a dog that he couldn’t win over. He also adores people and greets everyone he meets with a wagging tail and a tongue-out grin. Candy Cane is truly a dog that comes along once in a lifetime and he will make his forever home so lucky! Candy Cane is only an option for those who have owned a dog previously. Interested homes must demonstrate a plan for grooming. Kids in the home should be over the age of 5.December 10, 2023, 11:42 pm

Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, November 18th unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $650   Sound of Music: Captain is a 3 year old Maltese x Poodle mix who was rescued from a hoarding situation with his six siblings. These pups came to us with some of the worst matting we have ever seen in our 20+ years as a rescue, but were all loving and patient as our volunteers worked to free them of their matted coats. Captain has a non-shedding coat which makes him an option for those with allergies, or who want less hair around the house. He will require regular grooming and we will be looking for homes with a plan for coat maintenance.    Below is a note from Captain’s foster.  “Captain first came to me utterly terrified of everyone and everything, due to his not so amazing start to life. Captain has bloomed into a dog who adores kisses, love, pets, and cuddles from his people. If you kiss him on one side of his face, he turns to make sure you kiss his other cheek as well! Captain has started doing zoomies in the backyard and investigating squeaky toys as he has gained confidence.  Cap wakes up between 7-9 AM depending on the day. He goes outside right away to potty. He comes back inside and has breakfast and then spends his morning lounging in his bed area. He goes outside a few times a day in the backyard when he needs to potty. He has dinner around 5 PM and then spends the evening romping around the backyard with my resident dog. He sleeps happily through the night in his crate.  Captain has been working on his potty training and leash walking skills and is improving by leaps and bounds as the weeks go by. He is very eager to learn so his new home will have a blast working on this with him.   Captain gets along with and learns from my dog. He would do well in a home with a confident dog who can show him the ins and outs of being a dog.   Captain is a total love bug who has so much to show the world. He has so much personality as well, frequently standing on his hind legs and dancing around. He is so loving once he gets to know you and his forever home will be SO lucky to have him in their life!”   Captain is an option for those who have prior dog experience, even if that experience is less recent. He would do best in a home with another dog. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8. December 10, 2023, 11:42 pm

Jones is a 6 year old Maltese x Yorkie mix who came to DPS when his former home was no longer able to care for him. He came to us with his sister Hermione (for all of you Riverdale fans) but we will be looking for separate homes for each of the siblings so they can continue to blossom and show us their individual personalities. He has a low-shedding coat which makes him an option for those looking for a low-shed dog, but not for those with true allergies. He will require somewhat regular grooming but also loves getting brushed once he is comfortable with you!    Below is a note from F.P. Jones' foster. 'F.P. Jones is the kind of dog that takes a bit of time to blossom and trust his people, but once you earn that trust, he is your faithful companion forever and ever. He clearly did not see much of the world before he came to our home, but he has been taking cues from our resident dogs and is growing more and more confident as each day passes. He would do very well in a home where there is a confident dog who can show him the ropes and show him how nice it can be to live in a home with nice people. F.P. Jones truly deserves all the love in the world and his forever home will be so lucky if they get the chance to take on life with him! F.P. wakes up around 7 AM and heads outside to go potty. He then has breakfast and snuggles in for a morning nap. He loves to curl up on the couch while I work, especially when there is a blanket he can snuggle under. He knows how to go outside to potty by ringing a bell, which he is great at. He is fully housetrained and does not have accidents in our house. He has dinner at 6 PM and then spends some time in the evening cuddling with us on the couch while we unwind from the day. He goes to bed at 9:30 PM.  F.P. Jones coexists happily with dogs, kids, adults, and cats. He would love to have a confident canine companion in his new home, but he would also be happy to be the sole object of his family's affection, as long as they are prepared to continue his socialization work. This dude is pretty quiet, sometimes we even forget he is sitting next to us until he gets up from his nap under a blanket! He is such a wonderful dog, and he deserves the very best at his second chance. If you are looking for a loyal and loving companion, you won't find better than F.P. Jones!'   F.P. Jones is only an option for homes that have had a dog of their own in the last five years. We will be prioritizing those homes who already own a dog. If there are any children in the home they need to be over the age of ten and respectful of dogs that are on the shy side.December 10, 2023, 11:42 pm

Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $650   Hermione is a 5 year old Maltipoo who was surrendered to DPS when her former home was no longer able to take care of her. This girl has blossomed as the days have gone by in her foster home and they have seen her bloom into such a loving and wonderful pup. Hermione has a non-shedding coat which makes her an option for those with allergies, or who want less hair around the home.    Below is a note from Hermione’s foster. “Hermione came out of her shell on day three in our home, but she did smile the entire car ride to our house! She loves to follow me from room to room, often alongside the resident dogs in the home. She has slowly started to seek me out for pets so it is only a matter of time before she becomes a cuddle master. Hermione is an easy to love, go with the flow kind of dog.  Hermione wakes up with the resident dogs around 6:30 AM. She goes out to the bathroom and then comes inside for breakfast. Then she takes her food coma nap for another hour or so. If I work from home, she loves to lay next to me. On the days I work in the office, she hangs out with the other dogs in the home. She eats dinner around 5 PM. Depending on the schedule for the humans, she gets one or two walks a day.  Hermione LOVES to go on walks. The key to earning her love and her trust will be walks. She knows what the word walk means and gets so excited when she hears it or sees the leashes come on. She takes her cues from the other dogs in my pack but she can easily breeze through 1-2 miles with ease.  Hermione is working on her house training. When I am home, she doesn’t have accidents but doesn’t give cues so she has to go outside often. As she has gotten more confident in our home, she has had fewer accidents so fingers crossed for the future! Hermione would do well with a confident sibling who can continue to show her the ropes. She will be the kind of dog where if you give her the chance to show you love, you will be lucky forever!“   Hermione is only an option for those who have prior dog experience. We will be prioritizing those homes with shy dog experience. Hermione would do well with a canine sibling. Hermione is only an option for children over the age of 10 who are on the quieter side. December 10, 2023, 11:42 pm
