Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an application. * This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, June 20th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.   All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $750 Twinkie is living proof that the snack aisle got it right: tiny, sweet, slightly dramatic, and impossible to resist. At just 10 pounds, this adorable 5 year old little Morkie has somehow mastered the art of being both a dainty princess and the self-appointed ruler of every bed, chair, and cozy blanket in the house. Bonus: she's low-shedding, so the furniture she steals will stay (mostly) fur-free. Rescued from a shelter and now thriving in foster care, Twinkie is ready to find a forever family who appreciates a dog with personality, opinions, and elite snuggling skills.   Morning Routine: Powered by Snuggles and School Drop-Offs   Twinkie starts her day around 6:30am with a quick potty trip outside before immediately returning to what she considers her true profession: professional cuddler. She loves curling up in one of the family’s beds or beside her people on the couch for an early morning nap session.   One of the highlights of her day is helping with school drop-offs. She gets very excited for the car ride and takes her role as emotional support passenger seriously. Saying goodbye, however, is not her favorite activity. On the drive home, she may offer a few tiny cries to express her disappointment that her favorite humans did not, in fact, come back immediately.   Around 10am, it’s time for one of her beloved walks. Twinkie absolutely lights up when the leash comes out, complete with tiny excited yelps that sound suspiciously like a squeaky toy discovering espresso. After her walk, she’ll nibble at breakfast, lounge dramatically, and recharge for the important business of greeting the girls after school later in the afternoon.   Once everyone is home again, Twinkie settles into pure contentment. Evening walks, dinner, couch lounging, and bedtime complete her daily schedule. She sleeps beautifully through the night and would love to sleep in bed with her humans, though she’ll also happily settle into a comfy dog bed nearby if it meets her very high Goldilocks-approved standards.   Personality: Equal Parts Sugar, Sass, and Sentimentality   When Twinkie first arrived in foster care, she was shy and quiet. That phase lasted approximately five minutes.   As she became comfortable, her wonderfully expressive personality began to shine. Twinkie is incredibly communicative and seems convinced that humans should absolutely understand every one of her tiny emotional updates. She has different whines for different family members, soft little noises when she wants belly rubs, excited squeaks for walks, and dramatic commentary whenever she feels ignored for more than seven seconds.   She is affectionate without being overwhelming and loves simply being near her people. She’ll cuddle beside you on the couch, curl up in bed with you, or quietly follow you from room to room like a tiny fuzzy assistant manager. She was initially very velcro with her foster mom and still supervises bathroom trips from outside the door because privacy is apparently unnecessary now.   Twinkie is also hilariously expressive with her body language. When she wants you to follow her, she stares directly into your soul, wags her tail furiously, spins in excited little circles, and waits for you to understand the assignment.   And yes, she is a bit of a drama queen. But in the most lovable way possible.   Queen of the Household Furniture   One thing to know about Twinkie: if you stand up, you lose your seat.   This tiny dog has somehow perfected the art of instantly stealing every warm chair, couch cushion, and bed in the house. Her foster family describes her as “Goldilocks” because she carefully samples everyone’s sleeping spots before deciding which one feels just right for the evening. One minute your chair is empty. The next minute Twinkie is sprawled across it like she pays the mortgage.   She also loves squeaky toys and becomes deeply invested in figuring out where sounds come from. If she hears noises from a laptop, she will walk behind it to investigate the mysterious tiny people living inside.   Social Life and Adventures   Twinkie has been friendly and curious around other dogs. She does not bark at dogs on walks, even if they bark at her, though she may pick up her pace a little to get a closer look. She seems interested in making friends and enjoys observing the world around her.   Cats, however, are another story. The neighborhood feral cat has officially become her greatest nemesis. Twinkie transforms from sweet pastry to tiny security alarm the moment she spots one in the yard. Because of this, she may do best in a cat-free home, though a calm and confident cat could potentially help her learn better manners over time.   She has done well with teenagers and enjoys being around kids who understand how to give her space while she warms up. If she feels unsure, she’ll simply move away or give a brief bark to communicate her boundaries.   Walks, Training, and Home Manners   Twinkie is fully housetrained and has not had a single accident in foster care. She sleeps through the night beautifully and settles well into household routines.   She walks nicely on leash overall, though she can pull a little when excited. She enjoys exploring and observing everything around her but does not react badly to other dogs while out and about.   She is not destructive, does not chew or dig, and generally prefers lounging near her humans over causing chaos. The biggest thing to know is that she truly does not enjoy being left home alone for long periods. She bonds deeply with her people and would love a home where someone is around often to keep her company.   The Home Twinkie Dreams About   Twinkie would thrive in a loving home filled with affection, cozy blankets, and humans who appreciate a dog with a big personality packed into a tiny body. She would especially love a family with kids or multiple people around because being included in daily life is basically her favorite hobby.   She wants to be part of the action, part of the cuddle pile, and preferably part of whatever snack you’re eating too.   Most of all, Twinkie is looking for people who will adore her sweet, expressive nature and laugh at her constant commentary, dramatic chair stealing, and heartfelt reunion serenades.   Because just like the dessert she’s named after, Twinkie is impossibly sweet, a little ridiculous, and guaranteed to make your day better. June 20, 2026, 10:45 am

Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an application. Adoption fee: $800Meet Escarole: The Gentle Soul with a Love for Pillows   If you're looking for a best friend who is equal parts playful puppy and cozy couch companion, Escarole may be exactly who you've been waiting for.   This adorable 1-2 year old Maltipoo weighs just 12 pounds and sports a soft, non-shedding coat that's as cuddly as it looks. Rescued from the shelter, Escarole has spent the last few months discovering that the world isn't quite as scary as he once thought—and watching his confidence blossom has been incredibly rewarding.   A Day in the Life of Escarole   Escarole starts his mornings around 6:30 a.m., patiently waiting in his crate until his foster parent is ready to begin the day. After a morning walk and potty break, he's happy to settle in for some quiet time while his foster works from home.   Throughout the day, Escarole enjoys additional walks, naps beside his favorite people, and the occasional play session with his beloved toys. While he isn't particularly food-motivated, he happily grazes on his meals throughout the day, often stopping by his bowl after a walk or play session.   In the evenings, you'll usually find him lounging on the sofa, enjoying quality time with his humans before settling in for the night.   From Timid Shelter Dog to Loyal Companion   When Escarole first arrived, everything felt a little overwhelming. He was timid, skittish, and uncertain about his surroundings. Loud noises and sudden movements still make him nervous at times, but each day he grows a little braver.   One of the most wonderful things about Escarole is watching him choose trust. While he may be cautious initially, once he feels comfortable, his sweet personality shines through.   He's not the type of dog who demands constant cuddles, but he absolutely loves being near his people. He'll often curl up right beside you on the couch, sometimes climbing onto your chest for a quick snuggle before settling comfortably at your side. He enjoys following his humans from room to room and likes knowing where everyone is, but he also has an independent streak and can happily entertain himself with toys when needed.   Playful, Fun, and Full of Life   Don't let his gentle demeanor fool you—Escarole has plenty of puppy energy.   He absolutely loves toys, especially anything that squeaks, bounces, or can be tossed for a game of fetch. In fact, he could happily play fetch far longer than most people are willing to throw the toy. When left to his own devices, he can spend surprisingly long stretches entertaining himself with a favorite squeaky toy.   Despite his playful side, Escarole has a naturally calm presence that makes him easy to live with. He knows when it's time to play and when it's time to relax.   Making New Friends   Escarole is very interested in other dogs and tends to feel more comfortable approaching canine friends than unfamiliar people. He has been polite and well-mannered during dog interactions and appears eager to learn how to play appropriately with other pups.   He's also been gentle with children who have approached him, although his shy nature means he appreciates calm introductions and a little patience while he gets comfortable.   Walking with Escarole   Escarole enjoys his daily walks and gains confidence from exploring the world. He's still working on his leash skills and may pull when he feels nervous or startled. Loud vehicles, garbage trucks, and unexpected noises can make him anxious, causing him to speed up or pull ahead.   The good news? He is improving steadily and becoming more confident with every outing.   Unlike some small dogs, he isn't interested in chasing wildlife and doesn't bark at other dogs. In fact, he's usually more interested in meeting them.   House Manners   Escarole appears to be house trained and has been very well-behaved indoors. Prior to being neutered, he occasionally marked, particularly in homes with other dogs, but this behavior has improved.   He is crate trained and settles nicely in his kennel when needed.   A Few Things to Know   Escarole is generally an easy houseguest. He prefers chewing on his toys rather than household belongings and has not shown interest in destroying furniture or personal items.   He may bark briefly when visitors arrive or when startled by loud noises, but he settles quickly. He can also become a little possessive of particularly exciting toys during playtime, so his future family should continue reinforcing positive sharing behaviors.   His Dream Home   Escarole would thrive in a home where he receives plenty of companionship, exercise, and opportunities to continue building confidence. A family committed to daily walks, playtime, and gentle encouragement will help him continue blossoming into the confident dog he's meant to be.   Whether that's with someone who works from home, a family with an active lifestyle, or adopters looking for a loyal sidekick, Escarole is ready to be someone's constant companion.   Why You'll Love Him   Escarole combines the best qualities of a playful young dog and a relaxed adult companion. He's sweet without being clingy, active without being overwhelming, and affectionate without demanding constant attention.   And then there's his most endearing habit: his love affair with pillows and blankets. More than once, his foster has searched the house wondering where he disappeared, only to discover a suspicious lump in a pile of couch pillows. Escarole has a remarkable talent for building himself the perfect pillow fort and tucking himself inside for a cozy nap.   If you're looking for a gentle, handsome little companion with a soft coat, a sweet heart, and a growing sense of confidence, Escarole is ready to make himself comfortable in your home—and probably under your throw pillows. June 20, 2026, 10:45 am
