Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, August 22nd from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $800 Meet Garbanzo: The Perfect Little Bean   Garbanzo is a 1–2 year old, 11-pound Maltipoo who arrived at DPS Rescue with his buddy Chickpea. Chickpea found a forever home a couple of weeks ago, and now it’s Garbanzo’s turn to become the most important little legume in someone’s life. With his happy tail, mellow personality, excellent manners, and signature “twizzle jump,” Garbanzo is an easygoing companion who fits comfortably into just about any routine. He has a non-shedding coat, but his soft fur is prone to matting and will require regular brushing and professional grooming.  A Curious Little Neighbor   Garbanzo may initially be timid in an unfamiliar environment, but give him a little time and his cheerful personality quickly appears. When he arrived at his foster home, he wasted no time investigating every room, cabinet, closet, and crevice as though he had been hired to perform a full property inspection.   He remains wonderfully curious about household activities. Garbanzo likes to follow his foster family from room to room to see what everyone is doing, but once his curiosity is satisfied, he is perfectly happy to wander away and settle in his own space.   Garbanzo enjoys affection and snuggling, but he also appreciates his alone time. Sometimes he’ll curl up beside you, and other times he’ll claim his dog bed and enjoy a peaceful afternoon nap. He is affectionate without being demanding and independent without being distant—the best of both beans.   Garbanzo’s Daily Recipe   Garbanzo wakes around 6:30 a.m. and eats breakfast at approximately 7:00. Dinner is served around 6:30 p.m., with plenty of his beloved treats appearing throughout the day.   He takes two daily walks, usually shortly after each meal, plus two additional potty breaks. When time permits, his walks include a detour to the park for extra sniffing, socializing, and neighborhood exploration. During the day, he lounges in the living room, often choosing the dog bed beside his foster’s workspace.   At bedtime, Garbanzo goes into his crate once he realizes the day is officially over. He settles nicely and sleeps soundly through the night.   A Champion Lounger   Garbanzo is generally more of a lounger than a nonstop action hero, but he still has playful moments and looks forward to his walks. He is happy to relax while his people work, join the family for an outing, or supervise whatever is happening around the house.   His greatest bursts of athleticism occur when his foster comes home. Garbanzo celebrates by leaping into the air while spinning in a circle—a maneuver known as the “twizzle jump.” Is he a gymnast? A ballerina? A tiny bean with Olympic ambitions? The judges remain undecided, but his enthusiasm earns a perfect score.   Friends of Every Size   Garbanzo currently lives with Ollie, a 22-pound Doodle. They aren’t inseparable best friends, but they enjoy what his foster calls “platonic companionship.” They coexist easily, occasionally play, and sometimes nap together on the couch.   He has also greeted dogs of various sizes politely, including a Golden Retriever weighing more than 70 pounds. Garbanzo is friendly without being overwhelming, generally exchanging a few sniffs and tail wags before continuing on his way.   He has met children at the park and has been gentle and happy to receive polite pets. His calm, cheerful demeanor could make him a lovely companion for a family with respectful children. Garbanzo has not been tested with cats.   Walks, Potty Training, and Home Manners   Garbanzo walks beautifully on leash without pulling, lunging, or barking at passing people and animals. He enjoys exploring nature and believes every tree, bush, and interesting patch of ground deserves a thorough sniff.   He is house-trained and does most of his business during his scheduled walks.   Garbanzo can also be left loose in the house when his foster is away. He relaxes quietly and has not whined, caused trouble, or displayed destructive behavior. He rarely barks—even when the mail arrives or visitors come over. Deer spotted from the balcony, however, apparently deserve a strongly worded announcement.   Smart, Snack-Driven, and Ready to Learn   The fastest route to Garbanzo’s attention is through the crinkle of a treat bag. He is extremely food-motivated and will wake from even the deepest nap if he suspects snacks are being distributed.   That enthusiasm makes him a wonderful training candidate. Garbanzo learned “sit” within just two or three days and should enjoy learning more with patient, positive reinforcement—and appropriate payment in treats.   A Few Things to Know   Garbanzo can become nervous around sudden or unfamiliar noises, including the vacuum, laundry machines, and the sound of a car engine starting. He may shake and seek reassurance, but he settles once he understands that he is safe. Interestingly, once the car is moving, Garbanzo is an excellent passenger. He relaxes in his car seat, does not appear to experience motion sickness, and often sleeps until he hears the parking brake. Like many of his breed, he appears to have some allergies and came to us with patchy and itchy skin. He is currently on a non-poultry diet and is healing up well, but his adopter should be prepared to address this with their veterinarian. Garbanzo’s Forever Home   Garbanzo truly has the potential to be a “universal fit” dog. He could be happy with a family, a couple, or an individual; in a lively household or a quieter home; with another compatible dog or as the center of attention. He is mellow when life is calm, ready to join the fun when something is happening, and comfortable relaxing alone when his people are away.   Garbanzo’s recipe is simple: regular walks, gentle reassurance, proper grooming, a cozy bed, and a generous supply of treats. Add plenty of love, and you’ll have one very happy little bean.     August 19, 2026, 10:11 pm

Adoption fee: $800 Lanyard: Your New Favorite Attachment   Lanyard is a 10–12 month old, 13-pound Maltese mix who is ready to become permanently attached to a family of her own. Sweet, playful, affectionate, and wonderfully adaptable, this little lady is equally happy racing around with the kids, following the other dogs on an adventure, or curling up between the pillows for a luxurious afternoon nap.   A Day in the Life   Lanyard wakes up around 7 a.m. and heads outside for her morning potty break. Breakfast is served around 7:30 a.m., followed by a walk at approximately 8 a.m. She is always excited when the leash comes out and walks beautifully without pulling, barking at people or dogs, or trying to chase squirrels. Despite her petite size, she has no trouble matching the pace of the larger dogs and can comfortably complete a 30-minute walk.   Once home, Lanyard plays with her foster siblings, explores the house, or joins them at the bay window to supervise the neighborhood. After a full morning of important puppy business, she usually naps from around 11 a.m. until noon. Lunch is served at approximately 12:30 p.m., followed by more playtime and another nap from 3–5 p.m. Her preferred afternoon sleeping arrangement is tucked between the pillows on the bed with her human grandma.   Lanyard takes another walk around 6 p.m. and eats dinner at approximately 7:30 p.m. At night, she sleeps on the bed or snuggles up near her dog friends. She sleeps peacefully through the night without needing any potty breaks. She will go into a crate, but she understandably prefers not to sleep there when she can see that the other dogs are enjoying freedom outside of it.   The Sweetest Little Sidekick   Lanyard was timid when she first arrived in her foster home and spent the first couple of days keeping a careful distance from the larger resident dogs. By the third day, she had decided they were safe—and possibly worth copying. Now she follows along in perfect formation, running through the backyard, chasing balls, playing around the house, and gazing out the window beside them.   She gets along well with dogs of all sizes, although she is naturally most comfortable with dogs closer to her own size. She currently lives with a Golden Retriever and a medium-sized mixed-breed dog and has formed a lovely bond with both.   Lanyard can be cautious when guests first arrive, but she warms up within a few minutes. Once you are part of her circle, expect kisses, cuddles, and an enthusiastic welcome every time you return home. She may be small, but her homecoming celebrations make it clear that your absence has been thoroughly noted.   A Friend to Every Generation   One of Lanyard’s most endearing qualities is her ability to match the energy of the people around her. She is playful and energetic with children but gentle and relaxed when spending time with her foster grandma. She adores the 11-year-old children in her foster home and has also played nicely with neighborhood children between the ages of 5 and 8.   If the kids want to play, Lanyard is ready. If someone wants to settle in with a movie or a book, she is delighted to cuddle beside them.   Playtime and Home Manners   Lanyard is an energetic young dog who enjoys toys, chasing balls, running in the backyard, and joining whatever activity the other dogs have started. She does not chew inappropriate items, dig in the yard, or bark excessively.   When someone arrives at the front door, she may bark for a few minutes to announce the visitor before settling down. She has been left home for a couple of hours with the resident dogs and has done well.   Lanyard is nearly housetrained. She had a few accidents when she first arrived, but she is now successful when her family maintains a consistent schedule and takes her outside at regular intervals. As with any young dog adjusting to a new environment, she may need a brief refresher while learning the routine in her adoptive home.   Dining Arrangements   Lanyard currently prefers to be hand-fed and generally eats only a small amount at each meal. She does not yet eat from her food bowl, although she happily drinks water from it. Her future family should be prepared to continue patiently helping her become more comfortable eating independently.   Coat and Care   Lanyard has a low-shedding coat. As a Maltese mix, she will need regular brushing and professional grooming to keep her coat healthy, comfortable, and free of tangles.   The Perfect Connection   Lanyard is an affectionate, adaptable young dog who could thrive in many different households. She would especially enjoy a family with children, since she absolutely adores them. She would also be happy with a friendly canine companion who can show her the ropes, although the most important thing is having people who will include her in their daily lives.   With her excellent leash manners, playful personality, love of cuddling, and habit of following her friends in perfect tandem, Lanyard is ready to clip herself right onto the heart of her forever family. August 19, 2026, 10:11 pm

Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.    Adoption fee: $650 Cupcake: Sweet, Spicy, and Looking for Her Person Cupcake is an option for foster-to-adopt! Cupcake's story started with heartbreak. When DPS volunteers first met her at the shelter, she barely looked like a dog. Hidden beneath layers of severe matting, dreadlocks, and neglect was a tiny 12-pound Morkie who had clearly been through a lot. Once she was finally shaved down, groomers discovered painful wounds hidden underneath her coat, including a significant sore on her front leg that has taken time to heal.   Despite everything she's endured, Cupcake's personality shines through every day.   At 7 years old, Cupcake is equal parts playful, snuggly, bossy, funny, and determined. She absolutely loves playing fetch with her stuffed toys and is always ready for a spirited game of tug-of-war. She enjoys curling up next to her people, sleeping in bed (where she takes her role as a bed hog very seriously), and soaking up attention whenever it's available. Her adorable baby Yoda ears are impossible to resist, and she especially loves having them scratched. She's a great cuddler and always brings a smile to her foster's face.   Most of the time, Cupcake is a happy little dog who enjoys being part of the action. She has done well meeting visitors and gets along wonderfully with the three resident dogs in her foster home. She's perfectly content staying home alone and doesn't spend her time looking for trouble. She saves her barking mostly for important announcements, like reminding you dinner is late, requesting a spot on the couch, or letting you know that your food should probably be shared with her.   Cupcake does come with some important considerations.   Because of her painful wound and likely difficult past experiences, she can be defensive when she feels uncomfortable or vulnerable. While much of this behavior appears related to pain and wound guarding, Cupcake has also shown that she isn't afraid to express her opinions when things don't go her way. She is not a dog who will tolerate being pushed, restrained, or handled without respect for her boundaries.   For that reason, Cupcake needs an experienced adult-only home with people who understand dog body language and are comfortable working with a dog who has some emotional baggage.   The right adopter for Cupcake will see beyond her rough edges and recognize the resilient little dog underneath. She has likely spent years learning that the world wasn't always kind to her. Now she needs someone willing to show her that life can be different.   Cupcake isn't a perfect dog. She's a real dog— with quirks, opinions, scars, and a whole lot of personality. For the right person, that combination may make her all the more special. August 19, 2026, 10:11 pm

Comet is 14 years old and a purebread Maltese. He loves to be around people and is very loyal. He doesn't require much activity due to his old age so he enjoys lounging around the house and enjoying companionship! He does require extra attention with going to the bathroom so he typically wears diapers. Otherwise, taking him out every 2 hrs or so would helps him feel comfortable. Comet would do best in a loving home that can provide him with the attention, care, and companionship he enjoys. Please apply if he seems like a good fit for your home!

Please email your home photos to contact@adoptadoggie.org Malbu is a playful and happy boy. He loves everyone he meets and does well with other dogs. Malbu has a rough start in life. However, it doesn’t stop him from loving and trusting humans. He is doing well in his foster home and ready for a forever home. Malbu started some leash training and is learning at a good pace. He is crate-trained and doing well on his house training. Malbu loves his trips to the doggie park and enjoys his daily walks. Malbu is a loving boy and will be a good family dog. Malbu’s Rescue Story Malbu was caught by a volunteer of a TNR (Trap / Neuter / Return) rescue group. TNR rescue groups specialize in getting stray animals spayed and neutered and the animals are returned to their original location to live as homeless dogs and cats. TNR programs help with the overpopulation of unwanted animals. The volunteer caring for him loves him and didn’t want to see him back on the streets. The volunteer reached out to an experienced international rescue organization to save him and some other puppies that are still too young to be released back to the streets. The founder of the rescue organization has over 160 dogs waiting for homes. She really does not have space for another dog. However, she could not bear to see them suffering on the streets. She agreed to take them home and give them a chance in life. Malbu along with his 40 other buddies were all rescued and live together waiting for their own forever homes. Malbu had a thorough medical checkup. He had been neutered, vaccinated, microchip, and passed negative on his blood tests. Please give Malbu a loving home where he will never be left behind again. Story
Maltese Mix Age: Senior Female, Spayed 15 lbs Adoption Fee: Donation (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) Kylie (a.k.a. Bitsy) was brought to the San Jose Shelter as a stray and in pretty poor condition. She was underweight, no use of her her back legs, missing fur, urine burns from incontinence. In spite of it all, she had a wonderful disposition. The shelter contacted us to pull her. She uses a cart and wears diapers for her incontinence. Here is what her current foster mom has to say about her: Bitsy (Kylie) is a loving, bossy, and lively dog. She loves going for walks or sniffing around the park. Bitsy will ask you to play by grabbing her stuffy and bringing it to you. She also enjoys enrichment activities like puzzles and snoops. She has gotten along with having a second foster dog in the house as well as strangers. She is a polite greeter on walks. Bitsy needs her bladder expressed 3-4 times a day. She sits perfectly still as you do so. At home Bitsy navigates the house just fine. She will try to rush out the door to go with you on errands and does happy hops when you come home. For more information about Kylie, you can email us at: nobodysperfektdogs@gmail.com
