Hi I’m Feather! I’m a Pug Schnauzer mix. Mom is 100% Pug & dad is Schnauzer/mini Poodle. I am 7 months old & my days consist of playing & taking naps. Being 50% pug means I will shed. Even if you think maybe I won't because of my Schnauzer genes, it's better to assume that I will, because pugs shed a lot, so I won't be good in a home w/someone w/allergies. I am not crate-trained, although I do sleep in a playpen w/ other pups. I’ve never been alone before, so I will probably need to get used to it, or maybe someone will adopt me who has a pup friend already. You should also know I’ve already had two well-checks with a vet, I’m neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Tell me about yourself. Pug / Dachshund Mix Age: ≈ 4 years old Female, spayed 15 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) Cheerio came to the Sacramento County Shelter underweight and with an embedded foxtail in her neck. It was removed surgically, but post-op they had trouble stopping the bleeding. She tested negative for any blood clotting disorder - perhaps the surgery nicked an artery? Eventually, the bleeding stopped, but it left her anemic. The shelter needed a rescue group that specializes in medical cases to continue addressing her veterinary needs. Over time in foster care, her anemia improved and she gained her weight back. She is a very friendly, sweet dog. She likes attention and affection from her foster parents and volunteers. She likes roughhousing with the younger, larger dogs in her foster home. She doesn’t like being confined or kept away from the activities of the home. Crate training would be pretty difficult - lots of barking. Apartment living may not be the best option for her. We have no experience with her as an only dog. We would recommend that she go to a home with other playful, friendly dogs. Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13. Bodie is a sweet, energetic pug with a big personality. He gets so excited when he gets attention that he can't help but tell you all about it. He's playful, curious, loves being around other dogs, and is already starting to discover just how nice it is to have people looking out for him. We estimate Bodie is 4-6 years old. He came to us from Oakland Animal Services after being found as a stray, and while we don't know much about his past, we suspect he hasn't had much positive human interaction. Some of his teeth are unusually short, which our vet believes may be from chewing on a cage or enclosure. He's also a little jumpy, fearful at the vet, and wary of hands near his face. Bodie is still figuring out some of the basics of being a loved dog. He's unsure about toys, jumping onto furniture, or climbing into a lap. Right now, he wants to be near his people, but he's most comfortable sleeping beside them rather than being touched. At our recent Oakland pug meetup, he did wonderfully mingling with dozens of pugs, and we loved seeing how much confidence he gained simply from being around friendly people and dogs. While he was fine around children at the park, we think a home without kids would be the best fit for him. It's hard to know what Bodie experienced before rescue, but some of his behaviors suggest that life may not have always been kind to him. He can be anxious about what's happening around him, and all of this sudden attention, affection, new people, and new experiences are a lot to process. We think there's a very sweet, loving dog underneath that uncertainty, and he just needs time to realize that this good life isn't going anywhere. Bodie is looking for someone who will meet him where he is and give him the patience and stability to build trust at his own pace. He's high energy and would likely love having another confident, friendly dog in the home to show him the ropes. We'd especially love a home where his people are around most of the time or can bring him along for adventures. He deserves the chance to finally learn what it feels like to be safe, wanted, and cared for. Bodie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and fostered in Sacramento, CA.
