Story
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ORVILLE, PLEASE GO TO OUR WEBSITE TO READ ABOUT THE PROCESS AND FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION. www.furkidrescue.org Orville was rescued by a good Samaritan in Arkansas, when he was founded at an abandoned home. He was underweight, covered in fleas and ticks, and very weak. Once we got him to our vet we found that he was anemic, the fleas had sucked all of his blood. He is also heartworm positive, and he’s started the beginning of heartworm treatment. He’s feeling so much better and is on the path to good health! Orville is feeling better now, and his personality has started to show. He shows signs of being abused. He is not going to be a good first dog for someone, and he will need someone who’s dog savvy, and will give him space to settle in his environment.

Story
BAYOU Attributes: High energy Playful Crate trained Working on House training Will potty on a leash Dog friendly Does not like cats Likes to dig Good on car rides Adult only home preferred Not best for apartments Fence jumper Our first impression, upon meeting Bayou, was that he was a super friendly, carefree dog. He easily transitioned into our car, and remained calm the entire drive home. Once we arrived home and he met our 2 beagles, it became very apparent that, at just under 2 years old, he is still full of intense puppy-like energy. Immediately revealing his love of chase, the “zoomies”, his voice and a bit of rough housing, with his new dog friends, there was activity throughout the house! A brief backstory on Bayou was that his former owner allowed him to run free, outside. I have a feeling that he was in the company of other dogs, because all he knew and wanted to do was play and rough house. He would play relentlessly. We have been working on getting him to calm down and rest. Aside from playing with other dogs, he wants to be the center of attention, from all the humans that he meets. He has a huge personality and adores affection. He loves firm back scratches and belly rubs and this type of input has also helped him to calm down and he is now able to take naps! Bayou is smart, learns routines quickly and is definitely trainable. He knows how to sit on command and understands the word “No”. Bayou appears to be a blue tick beagle mix. He stands 16 inches tall and weighs around 27 pounds. He isn’t completely house trained and he doesn’t have any “tells” that he needs to go outdoors, so we take him out every 2-3 hours during the day, when we are home. In keeping that schedule, he rarely has accidents. He is crate trained for when we are away from home, sometimes up to 9 hours, and he has never messed in his crate. He will bark initially and does best when given a treat-filled frozen Kong when we leave. At night he is left loose in the house and will either sleep on the couch or the dog bed in the living room. Bayou is obsessed with food and will surf your counters for any chance to nab some food. He is not food aggressive and eats all of his meals next to the other dogs, without incident. He demonstrates great patience in sitting and taking his turn, when I am distributing treats to all three dogs. He enjoys bully sticks, frozen treats in a Kong toy, dog chew toys, plush toys that squeak and crinkle, and balls. He loves to be outside, walks well on a leash; however, once he picks up a fresh animal scent, in true beagle fashion, he will bark and pull with all of his might! Bayou is a skilled climber, so he would probably need a yard with a 5-foot fence. Bayou will bark like crazy when he hears or sees other dogs. I believe that this is pure excitement as he views meeting other dogs as another opportunity for play. He has never shown raised hackles or any form of fear with other dogs. He would probably do best in a home with another dog at a similar energy level or one that is very tolerant of his puppy antics. He would, however, not do well with cats, as that would be an endless game of chase for Bayou. Bayou loves all the people that he has met and he would probably do well in a calm home with more structured activity, such as long walks and food puzzles, and with older children. Story
Mila Attributes Potties on leash Good in car rides Good with young kids (lives with a 2 yr old) Medium energy Not dog friendly Housebroken Loves squeaky toys Mila is looking for her perfect family after being returned to the rescue due to her prior family’s allergies. This sweetie is 8 years old, but she’s definitely young at heart! She’s a sturdy 40 pounds and is a medium-energy gal. She enjoys her walks (she walks well on a leash) and sniffing around the yard smelling all of the smells. Mila rides well in the car and would be delighted to join her new family on all of their adventures. Mila is good with young children. She’s never been around cats, and she will need to be an only dog. Now that the warmer weather is here, Mila likes to lounge on the backyard deck, watching the world go by. When she’s outside, she will do well on either a tie-out or in a fenced yard. Although she’s not much of a cuddler, Mila does enjoy being around her people and would prefer a family where someone is home most of the time. She’s housetrained and potties on a leash as well. She loves to play with any toys she can get her paws on, and like any beagle, she enjoys the occasional treat. When it’s bedtime, Mila happily curls up on foster mom’s bed for a restful night of sweet beagle dreams. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
Cori 8 years old Attributes Single dog home Dog friendly Housetrained Good in cars High energy Requires a fence Adult only home preferred Cori is a sweet beagle girl with an adorable underbite who recently celebrated her 8th birthday. She was obviously very much loved in her previous home, but sadly, her mom passed away. Now, Cori is looking for a forever home where she can be spoiled again. Cori would do best in an adult-only home where she can have ample time to settle in – she prefers a quieter lifestyle and would like to be the only dog in the household. That being said, Cori would love to have regular playtime with other dogs and enjoys her visits to doggy daycare where she can socialize with other dogs. Cori hasn’t been around cats, so we don’t know how she would react to them. Cori will thrive in a home where she has a regular routine and will be walked at least once a day (and preferably more) to burn off some of her beagle energy. She is fully house trained, but she doesn’t potty on leash, so a fenced yard is a must. Car rides with Cori are a breeze – she’s the perfect passenger when it’s time to hit the road! If Cori seems like the beagle buddy you’ve been looking for, please contact Midwest BREW to learn more about her. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
Ben 10 years old Attributes Working on housetraining Needs a fence Dog friendly Good w/cats Potties on leash Good in cars My name is Ben, and I'm a sweet old guy who’s around 9 or 10 years old.  I’m a beagle/ basset mix, which gives me a unique look and bit of goofiness everyone falls in love with.  I love getting attention and being petted, but sometimes I just want to relax and sleep in my bed.  I'm doing well with potty training, and I do even better when I can get outside on a regular basis. My foster family knows that when they see me sniffing around in certain areas of the house, it’s time to let me outside! I also wear a belly band to help with potty training. I love spending time outside and would do best in a home with a fenced yard.  My favorite thing in the world is spending time in the yard with my younger foster brothers and checking for critters that may have crossed the yard in the night.  I do have that typical beagle bark, but I normally only do that for a short time when I first get outside because I’m so excited! After a while, I calm down and concentrate on sniffing all that there is to sniff. When I’m inside, I enjoy playing with my stuffed toys, and I often entertain myself by tossing them in the air.  I try to play with my brothers, but they are younger and don’t always include me when they play.  There are kitties in the house, too, and I tend to ignore them. I like taking walks and going on car rides.  I'll normally just curl up in the back seat and sleep until we get to our destination. When I’m at home, I'm just happy to be with my family, but I also do well being left out with my foster brothers when my foster family goes out. Being a senior, I’m a very special fellow, and I also have some special needs.  To protect my kidneys, I am on a kidney care blend food that I will need to be fed for the rest of my life. And because I have very dry eyes, I must have eye drops multiple times a day to protect my eyes for the rest of my life as well.  To protect my general health, I’ll need check-ups every six months to ensure that I stay healthy and happy for years to come! If you think I’m the right boy for you, please contact your Midwest BREW adoption counselor. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
ROSIE Attributes Dog friendly Potties on leash Likes car rides Adult-only home preferred Apartment friendly Housetrained Special medical needs Rosie was adopted from Midwest BREW as a puppy; 7 ½ years later, she’s back with us and looking for a loving new home due to her owner’s health issues. In addition to being a super-sweet, laid-back girl, Rosie is also very well-trained with impeccable manners. She walks very nicely on a leash, doesn’t jump up on people, and she has a very calm demeanor. She would do best in a quiet home either as an only dog or with another calm dog. We’re not sure how Rosie would do with cats. Because she’s generally quiet and only barks occasionally, she would do well in an apartment or condo as long as she’s walked several times a day. Rosie has a seizure disorder that is well-controlled – she hasn’t had any episodes for over a year.  To keep her seizures under control, she’ll need to be on medication for the rest of her life and will need to have bloodwork done every 6 - 12 months.    Snuggling on the couch with her people is one of Rosie’s favorite things to do. While she’s not one to play, she does enjoy going for walks and will potty on a leash. Rosie does well in the car and loves going for rides, even if it’s just to run some errands. When it’s time to turn in for the night, she sleeps contentedly in her dog bed in her foster parents’ bedroom. If you’re interested in learning more about Rosie, please contact Midwest BREW.
