Daisy: A Sweet Pup Learning to Trust Again Daisy is a 5 month old, 20lb female Beagle mix puppy who is shy but sweet and just wants to feel secure. This little girl has been through more than any puppy should, and because of that, she can be very scared and timid when meeting new people. She will need a patient, understanding adopter who’s willing to go slow and help her continue to build confidence. What Daisy Loves: Other dogs. Daisy absolutely blossoms around confident canine friends. Because people still make her nervous, she MUST go to a home with another friendly, confident dog to help guide and comfort her. Her trusted humans. Once Daisy gets to know you, she becomes a total cuddle bug who adores being close to her people. A calm and quiet environment. Sudden movements and loud noises can overwhelm her, so a peaceful, low-traffic home is best. Her Ideal Home:Daisy likely had negative experiences with a man in her past, and she is especially fearful around men. She would do best with a female adopter or a home where men can take things very slowly with her over time. She also needs a family that is home more often than not, as she is working through some separation anxiety. Because of her fearfulness and sensitivity, young children are not a good fit for Daisy. She would truly thrive in a calm environment where she can cuddle, decompress, and continue to grow with the help of a confident dog companion. She was obviously very much loved in her previous home, but sadly, her mom passed away. Now, at 8 years old, Cori is looking for a forever home where she can be spoiled again. An adult-only home where she can have ample time to settle in would be best for Cori. She would prefer a quiet lifestyle (no cities or busy neighborhoods for Cori) and would like to be the only dog in the household. That being said, Cori enjoys her visits to doggy daycare where she can socialize with other dogs. Cori also does well with cats. Cori will thrive in a home where she has a regular routine and will be walked daily so her beagle nose can be used to its fullest potential. She’s house trained, but she doesn’t potty on leash, so a fenced yard is a must. Car rides with Cori are a breeze – she’s the perfect passenger when it’s time to hit the road! Because Cori was displaying some behavior that we wanted to better understand, we sent her to a certified professional dog trainer. Cori was already on medication for general anxiety, and she underwent thorough behavioral and medical evaluations to determine if there was something else that was affecting her behavior. We discovered that Cori’s underbite was causing a lot of jaw pain, and her discomfort was affecting how she interacted with the world. Since starting daily anti-inflammatory medication, Cori has bloomed beautifully. According to her trainer, she now has a good appetite and is a “total foodie.” Her confidence has increased, she’s more playful and more at ease meeting new people, and she has learned to ignore distractions while she’s on leash. DAKOTA 8 years Attributes Dog friendly Medium energy Good in cars Good with children Good in apartments Housetrained Potties on leash Dashingly handsome Dakota is affectionately described by his foster mom as “the best big smushy love bug!” At 8 ½ years old, Dakota has a moderate energy level, but he’s been known to go into zoomie mode when he’s in a playful mood. He enjoys a good game of fetch and appreciates the creature comforts of snuggling with his people, enjoying his toys and curling up at bedtime in his dog bed tucked in under his blankets. Dakota would like a home where his people are home at least half of the time so he can have as much attention as possible. At 37 pounds, Dakota is working on getting back into shape; he’s already lost 4 ½ pounds, and he has 5 more to go. His new family will need to ensure he has a balanced diet and will need to take him on regular walks, which should be easy as he walks well on leash. He also rides well in the car, so trips to the park with Dakota for extra walks and exercise will be a breeze. If it’s raining and Dakota needs to go outside (he’s housetrained with just the occasional accident), a raincoat is a must as he definitely does not like the rain! Dakota also has allergies and takes Apoquel to keep them under control. Dakota is quite a sociable fellow. He enjoys spending time with his people and is fantastic with children – he will sit with them for hours and let them pet him. He likes the company of other dogs and would do equally well as an only dog or in a home with canine siblings. For a beagle, Dakota is pretty quiet, although he doesn’t hesitate to let you know when it’s time to eat! He is approximately 4 years old and weighs around 30 pounds. This handsome boy loves his food and treats. He was a bit short in the manners department, but is doing really well with "sit" and "wait" (especially when it's mealtime). He is mostly potty trained and uses the doggy door to take care of his business in a fenced yard. However, he does not seem to like going out in the dark, which results in a few accidents. I have been leashing him at bedtime and walking the yard with him. He will potty on a leash. We are also working on leash manners. He is a true Beagle and walks on a leash in the crazy, zig-zag formation. He does not crate well and seems to have high anxiety when crated. However, he seems to feel quite comfortable napping in one of the dog beds with his foster canine siblings when I am away. I work part-time several days a week and am gone up to 6 hours at a time without any problems. He has decided that the best place for him to sleep at night is next to me, and he sleeps very soundly. This boy is a lover and a snuggler. He loves his daily exercise in our “dog park” and will need a home that can take him on daily walks. He gets along well with other dogs and is rather patient with our grumpy and blind resident boy Beagle. We have not had much of a chance to hang out with children but he really enjoyed the few times he was around kids. He does have a lot of energy though, which means crazy zoomies, so very young children could literally be swept off their feet by him. He loves toys and empties the toy box often. He enjoys chew toys and is starting to get the hang of fetching a ball. This sweet, friendly, and curious dog has a personality that lights up any room.
