Animal Profile: Rico is a 6-year-old (DOB 10/1/2019), 80 lb neutered male German Shepherd with a very sad story looking for a brighter future. He seems older than his years, due to his history of neglect, but he is now safe in foster care and getting the TLC he will need to thrive. Rico has some chronic skin issues that are improving, but will need ongoing supportive care with quality food and supplements. He will also need a structured exercise regimen to promote muscle growth and weight loss. Rico is open to connection with a human -- you can see it in his eyes. He has no aggressive tendencies with humans or dogs but is just awkward with interaction. You can see he wants to do it! He is house trained (with regular access to potty breaks) and crate trained, and has quickly learned some basic obedience such as sit and heel in foster care. He does not have any reactivity on leash but does pull without a prong collar. He seems to have some prey drive for toys (which will be helpful for connection and his spirit!) and cars. We will test him with cats and share that info. More updates as we get to know him. Animal History: Rico was purchased from Tannerhaus GSD, a "reputable breeder" (we DO NOT recommend) that advertises they take their dogs back, but when Rico's senior owner had to move to assisted living, the breeder did not uphold the contract. Rico's family discovered that Rico had not been let outside regularly in years, was forced to potty in the house, and did not have regular access to water; he was more of a well-fed houseplant with limited mental or physical stimulation, or even touch. His owner's family could not find placement for him and moved him to a kennel where he stayed for months and developed skin issues, including a systemic fungal infection. When they could no longer afford to kennel him, they reached out and we could not refuse to help him. Rico found emergency placement with The Good Dog Way in Bellingham (6/9/2025) and began his journey to recovery. He is now in foster care in Bothell and making great progress. He is available for adoption to the greater Seattle area, though we are continuing to work on his physical and mental condition. We will update his profile as he progresses. Animal Information: Ranger is an estimated 6-year-old male German Shepherd mix currently weighing approximately 60bs. It appears that Ranger had been in the shelter in 2019 and then returned recently. Foster Profile: Ranger is a gentle boy who is settling in well. I gave him a bath the day he arrived and he seemed to love it, didn’t fight me at all, and even laid his head on my leg at one point! He is friendly with dogs and people and seems to love attention. It took a few days of walks together, but he has started playing with my resident dog which is great to see! He is generally calm inside, though he does enjoy playing with toys, and now that the two dogs are playing there has been a little friendly wrestling inside as well. Ranger walks well on leash and hasn’t shown any reactivity to people or other dogs on our walks. He doesn’t seem to need a ton of exercise and is doing well with a walk or two a day. Ranger is house trained and we are working on crate training. Although he does prefer to be with his people, he will sleep through the night in his crate, and is making progress on settling when alone. Overall, Ranger is a calm, gentle boy who will make a great addition to a lucky PNW family. He had been at the Devore animal shelter for 2 weeks and was on the euth listed due to space. Thanks to a Seattle area foster stepping up to take the family in, they were all saved. Animal Profile: Heddy is a 2-year-old (DOB 12/16/23) Dutch Shepherd Malinois mix (DNA tested) female who was brought to Fresno Humane along with her littermates in 2023. She was adopted in December of that year, but returend to the rescue in December of 2025. Foster Update: Heddy is a little firecracker. She is smart, eager to please, and fun to work with. She’s a friendly girl who can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but she warms up quickly and once she does her playful and affectionate personality really shines. Heddy is both crate trained and house trained, and she loves spending time playing with people and other dogs. Her play style can be a little pushy at times, so she’d do best with a balanced dog that can match her energy and set clear boundaries. Heddy was returned to the rescue after a year with an adopter who, despite their best intentions, realized she was more dog than they were prepared for. During that time she picked up a few bossy habits, but since coming back she’s been putting in the work. She's been training consistently and made great progress. Heddy has a lot of drive and would likely thrive in dog sports or other activities that give her both mental and physical outlets. She’ll do best with someone experienced with working breeds who understands the importance of structure, training, and keeping an active dog engaged. A single- family home with people who have the time and commitment to continue balanced training and meet her exercise needs would be the ideal fit for this bright, energetic girl. aAnimal Information: Waffles is a 1yr old neutered male Malinois mix who currently weighs 70lbs, but does need to lose a little weight! He and his littermates were left in a parking lot at Devore shelter when they were just 8 weeks old. Unfortunately the shelter was full so one of our rescue partners took the puppies home to vet them and find them families. Waffles is the last of the litter many months later, and he has been living in a trailer park with other dogs and people. We look forward to meeting him! Foster Profile: Waffles is such a big love! He loves all people and other dogs and is quite a “leaner” so be prepared for lots of affection from this sweet boy. Waffles is crate and potty trained. He can be a little vocal when he is first settling in, so we are not considering apartments for him at this time. He’d love a home with a fence yard and a bit of room to run and play. We think Waffles would do best in a home with a balanced dog friend but will consider active applicants, especially with large breed experience, without another dog. Waffles is an energetic boy and would make a great running/hiking partner, but he does have a good off switch when inside and it’s time to chill.
