Story
Animal Profile: Freya is an estimated 4-year-old, 60 lb female German Shepherd who has a lot of love to give. She is smart and loves to work for you. She will thrive with a strong leader --  otherwise she is prone to anxiety. She is house trained, crate trained, fully obedience trained and will do best with a Shepherd-savvy owner capable of providing her with guidance as well as physical and mental stimulation. Freya LOVES to fetch and BALL IS LIFE. She walks well on a leash with a training collar. This loyal and affectionate girl is slow to warm up to new people and will need an owner who is comfortable managing her safe introductions to strangers, but once you earn her trust, she's very eager to please. Freya has lived with other dogs and loves to play with them; she's good with dogs big and small, male and female. At this time we are prioritizing a home for Freya with a resident dog(s) as we think she would do best in a pack. She's also been tested with cats and exhibits no prey drive, and is amusingly scared of chickens. She is currently living in a home with small children and has done well with them, but we would prefer to place her in an adult-only home.  Adopter Profile:  Large dog experience required Shepherd experience preferred Single family residence required (no apartments) Secure fenced yard required Other balanced dog(s) preferred Cats OK No kids preferred Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $400 which includes spay/neuter, all core vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as Dog Gone Seattle is a federal 501c3 organization.  TAKE HOME TRAINING SESSION INCLUDED WITH ADOPTION Apply online: www.doggoneseattle.org/adoption-application Animal History: Freya was found as a stray in Dec 2020 in Tacoma extremely underweight (40 lbs) and very scared. She was taken into Tacoma Humane Society and transferred to Dog Gone Seattle. She was fostered with DGS for several months while she learned basic manners and gained 15 lbs. She was adopted in March 2021 and lived with a caring family. Unfortunately they lived in a condo with no secure yard in a busy urban environment, which proved too challenging for Freya with those particular owners. She was returned to DGS in April 2022 and received a professional board and train with our training partner Seattle K9 Command. She is now being fostered in Bothell and available for adoption in the greater Seattle area.  September 5, 2025, 8:50 pm

Story
Animal Profile: Rico is an almost 6-year-old (DOB 10/1/2019), 80 lb neutered male German Shepherd with a very sad story looking for a brighter future. He seems older than his years, due to his history of neglect, but he is now safe in foster care and getting the TLC he will need to thrive. Rico has some chronic skin issues that are improving, but will need ongoing supportive care with quality food and supplements. He will also need a structured exercise regimen to promote muscle growth and weight loss. Rico is open to connection with a human -- you can see it in his eyes. He has no aggressive tendencies with humans or dogs but is just awkward with interaction. You can see he wants to do it! He is house trained (with regular access to potty breaks) and crate trained, and has quickly learned some basic obedience such as sit and heel in foster care. He does not have any reactivity on leash but does pull without a prong collar. He seems to have some prey drive for toys (which will be helpful for connection and his spirit!) and cars. We will test him with cats and share that info. More updates as we get to know him.  Animal History: Rico was purchased from Tannerhaus GSD, a "reputable breeder" (we DO NOT recommend) that advertises they take their dogs back, but when Rico's senior owner had to move to assisted living, the breeder did not uphold the contract. Rico's family discovered that Rico had not been let outside regularly in years, was forced to potty in the house, and did not have regular access to water; he was more of a well-fed houseplant with limited mental or physical stimulation, or even touch. His owner's family could not find placement for him and moved him to a kennel where he stayed for months and developed skin issues, including a systemic fungal infection. When they could no longer afford to kennel him, they reached out and we could not refuse to help him. Rico found emergency placement with The Good Dog Way in Bellingham (6/9/2025) and began his journey to recovery. He is now in foster care in Bothell and making great progress. He is available for adoption to the greater Seattle area, though we are continuing to work on his physical and mental condition. We will update his profile as he progresses.  Adoption Info: The adoption fee is $575 which includes his neuter, core vaccinations,  DPPV, Bordetella, microchip, and recent health check with a veterinarian. Adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. Apply Online: www.doggoneseattle.org/adoption-application  November 7, 2025, 10:57 pm

Story
Animal Profile: Leo is an estimated 3-year-old male Shepherd mix who was adopted as a young puppy after we accepted him from California where he was found as a stray in a Chino dumping zone along with his sibling Sansa and mom Catelyn. He joined us in Seattle on 10/10, along with Sansa and Catelyn. Leo was returned to the rescue after a couple of years due to a divorce in the family, lacking socialization and training. He was fostered with a trainer for several weeks and is now thriving and ready for a loving forever home.  Seattle Foster Update: Leo has progressed well in his time with us as a foster. When Leo arrived to us from training he was moderately reactive, but quickly blossomed to a friendly, tail wagging, bouncy boy. Leo is in a word eccentric. He is a cuddle bug and a hermit and assumes the oddest positions imaginable to get close to his owners. He is crate trained perfectly and enjoys the safe environment the crate provides for him. If you’re unwilling to give Leo a crate then you’re not the right home for him. He needs his escape and downtime to be the best boy. Leo warms up slowly to new people and dogs, and his new owners should be selective in dog introductions as he will react if confronted and doesn’t like in your face dog encounters. He plays well with male Collie and male Malinois and he has a firm truce with our selective female Bulldog. He lives with our cats and is completely disinterested in them. So, cat friendly. Leo will never be a dog park dog. So no dog parks. We don’t have kids in the household so don’t have awareness there. He has no food aggression but he's still working on taking treats gently. Leo will be a great hiking buddy and walks beautifully on leash. He doesn’t have marked stranger danger but again the policy will likely be "please don’t pet my dog without proper introductions." Adopter Profile: Dog experience required Fenced yard required Other dog/dogs in the home a plus Cats okay Older kids okay Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $500, which includes spay/neuter, current rabies/DAPPV/bordetella vaccinations, microchip, health certificate, and heartworm test. All adoption fees are donations to a Washington non-profit corporation and all donations go to benefit the animals in our rescue.  Apply online at www.DogGoneSeattle.org  November 18, 2025, 12:38 am

Story
DNA Tested: 75% German Shepherd; secondary breed White Swiss Shepherd Animal Profile: Strudel is an estimated 11-month-old female shepherd mix weighing approximately 40 lb who spent five weeks along with her littermates in a crowded shelter; one of the pups was adopted but four remained languishing for weeks, so they've joined us in Seattle. They were spared euthanasia for space due to their sweet and social nature and they are friendly with all dogs and people. We will share more information as we get to know them in foster care.  Foster Update: Strudel is a 60lb 11-month-old shepherd mix that is the most perfect shepherd you could ask for. She is extremely loving, happy, and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She currently lives in a foster home with a resident dog, 2 cats, and quail - and she does fantastic with them all! Strudel adores all people. She loves to meet strangers, especially kids, and dogs we encounter in our day to day. She is an exuberant young dog that does well matching the energy in different situations. She is fairly energetic, but when given the right mental and physical stimulation she is very content. She is a big cuddle bug and is mellow when inside the house. Strudel is incredibly smart, biddable, and wanting to please her humans. She is very well trained and often gets compliments when we are out in public at dog-friendly breweries and restaurants. She is crate trained and gleefully goes into her crate whenever asked. Being a shepherd, she does soft whining to communicate whatever she is feeling, but is not a big barker. When there are sirens, she will show off her very impressive howl! Playing soccer, fetch, and tug are her most favorite games. She loves going on hikes, splashing around in water, and is the perfect passenger for car rides. Strudel would thrive in an active home that has a lot of love to give and is ready for the most faithful companion! Adoption Info: The adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, deworming, microchip and registration, heartworm test for dogs over 6 months, and recent vet exam.  Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as Dog Gone Seattle is a 501c3 organization. Apply Online: www.doggoneseattle.org/adoption-application Animal History: Strudel and her littermates were taken into Moreno Valley animal shelter on April 9, 2025 and at risk for euthanasia due to overcrowded. Please fill out an adoption application at haydudeequine.org 🍪 Meet Nilla – Sweet as a Wafer, Twice as Fun! 🍪 If you’ve ever wished for a dog as sweet and comforting as your favorite cookie, look no further—Nilla’s got you covered! This 10-year-old Shepherd mix may be a “golden oldie,” but don’t let her age fool you. She’s still full of zest, zoomies, and plenty of love to share. At 45 lbs, Nilla is the perfect fun-size snack. She adores men, women, and other dogs, and her playful, gentle nature makes her a dream companion. She’s food-motivated (who isn’t when cookies are involved?) but never guards her goodies. Instead, she’s all about sharing her big heart and happily coming when called. ✨ Nilla’s recipe for the perfect home includes: — A comfy couch and a human who appreciates belly rubs and head scratches — Doggie friends to run and play with (she’s fantastic with canine buddies!) --- Would probably do fine with cats (she's pretty much ignores the outside cats) — Gentle, older kids who understand that even sweet cookies need a little care — Maybe a backyard where she can show off her zoomies before napping in the sun She’s housetrained, kennel trained, and not too interested in toys—her joy comes from people, play, and pets. With her easygoing nature and good manners, Nilla would make a pawfect first-time pet parent pup. She’s the comfort food of dogs: always reliable, always sweet, and guaranteed to brighten your day. Story
DNA Tested: 75% German Shepherd; secondary breed White Swiss Shepherd Animal Profile: Sherbert is an estimated 10- month-old male shepherd mix weighing approximately 40 lbs who spent five weeks along with his litter mates in a crowded shelter; one of the pups was adopted but four remained languishing for weeks, so they've joined us in Seattle. They were spared euthanasia for space due to their sweet and social nature and they are friendly with all dogs and people. We will share more information as we get to know them in foster care.  Foster Update: Sherbert is a sweet friendly boy who makes friends with everyone he meets; he has a lot of puppy energy and loves playing with all the toys! He's pretty good at entertaining himself, but if left to his own devices can get into some mischief. He loves to be outside and would enjoy a yard to run around in. His big ears tune into everything happening around him. He does make a stink at first when crated, but settles quickly. Sherbert will need a family who will give him plenty of outlets for his energy. He would be okay as an only dog or with a canine companion. His ideal family has a secure fenced yard and large breed experience.  Medical Info: Sherbert has a diagnosis of low grade Megaesophagus; he is thriving with eating three smaller rehydrated meals daily from an elevated food bowl. We believe he will have a normal life expectancy with continued dietary and lifestyle management in the home. Story
Animal Profile: Looking for a partner in crime? Meet Felon! He's a neutered male Belgian Malinois that is around 18 months old, 55 lbs, and is ready for a person to call his own. Despite his menacing name, this boy is a bundle of joy in a svelte package. Felon loves to go at full speed and would be a fantastic companion for someone looking to get into dog sports -- dock diving, barn hunt, IPO -- he wants a shot to shine! In typical Malinois form, he is highly intelligent, loyal, and athletic. He shows moderate food drive and high toy drive and is an exceptionally quick learner. He does have an off switch and is content to chill on place command with a stuffy toy, or in his crate. Felon is very friendly meeting new people and has lived with other dogs as well as cats, but will be best in a cat-free home. Felon has a strong grasp of basic obedience training including recall, place and loose leash walking.
