Story
Hey there! I'm Bart, a 1-year-old Boxer mix who arrived at the shelter as a stray on June 1st. I'm ready to leave the shelter behind for good and find my forever home!
I'm a little shy here in the shelter but I'm hoping to find an active family soon, with owners who can match my enthusiasm and zest for life. I've met another dog here during my time at the shelter, and we said "hi" to each other but I'm still nervous and wasn't quite ready for playtime yet. If you have a doggo at home already, I'm happy to meet them at the shelter prior to adoption to see if we get along!
I recently got to spend a day at Art City Vets where their team took great care of me and got me all neutered so I'm ready to be adopted! And I'm pretty sure I overheard them say I was their best patient EVER. (Okay, maybe they say that to all the dogs, but I was a really good boy!)
Want to meet me? Stop by ACCT Philly and say hi! Open every day from 10am to 6pm.

BEHAVIORAL INFORMATION
6/11 Per staff behavioral eval
Kennel Presentation: quiet and bouncy, soft eyes, loose body, tongue hanging out. At the front, some gentle jumping on the gate. Appeared eager to come out!
Leash Skills: can pull hard at times, darting hard at the end of the leash and straining to go in certain directions.
Sociability: he was spinning, running, zooming and jumping when loose in the pen! Ears back, loose wiggly body. I sat on a bench and he jumped on my lap for cuddles, burrowed his head into my chest for next rubs. Tongue hanging loosely, squinty eyes, low fluid tail wags. Highly social, sought constant contact with me.
Play: ran after a tossed toy, then ignored. For play he would run and pounce off me, then run away and repeat.

Vocal at the fence, prey bows, disengaged on his own. On leash, tried to go vertical and over the head of the other dog immediately, with continued interaction, showed some teeth and then Did a Loud air snap. Decided to walk along after that. Sniffed other dog when rear was accessible, rest of walk was uneventful.
Good and bad elements to the dog meet
Return to Kennel: easy
Color Level: remain blue
Recommendations and considerations: high energy, needs to run daily, tons of fun!
If other dog in the home be prepared to do a very slow and incremental introduction with lots of management like crates, baby gates, paralleled walks, etc. may take time to fully integrate
Per Volunteer 6/10/2026: Very excited and playful boy. When I approached his crate in the isolation room, he was very loose and wiggly and very excited to go out! Easily leashed him, and he pulled very hard the whole way out of the shelter. I would recommend a harness. In the play yard he was super playful and loves to romp around. He also has a very cuddly side to him and got right in my lap for pets. He doesn’t seem overly interested in toys and he’s pretty treat motivated but not overly interested. Very wiggly body meeting other dogs through the fence and sometimes vocal also. Very sweet and playful young pup! Very easily went back into his kennel and no issues unleashing
Walksheet notes: Bart was taken out on a walk on 6/5 and 6/7. Bart had no general issues on 6/5, had low energy and was noted by the handler “excited to go out, but still calm. Wanted to run toward someone walking through the yard". On 6/7 Bart had no issues in or out through the kennel, and was noted to have moderate issues on the leash and mild issues being shy. Energy was low to medium that day and the handler noted “Pulls very strongly towards other dogs. Shakes off after handling. Not eating outside”
Dog Meet Notes from 6/7: Pulled hard towards Theodore, stiff body, high still tail, hackles raised when face to face. In the yard, able to be sniffed and sniffed back. Air snapped and started to hard bark when Theodore put a paw on his back.
Per staff 6/7: "Kennel Presentation: Laying on his bed when I approached, slowly came forward, ears to the side, low tail, ate the food I tossed into his kennel. Leash Skills: Tried to push out of kennel at first, stopped and backed up after a second and then was able to easily leash. Once leashed came right out and pulled moderately on leash, tail low, ears back. Sociability: Not eating outside. When handling, tail low, ears back, panting. Shook off when I stopped handling and moved away. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Theodore, pulled very strongly towards him, ears back, mid to high tail. Stiff and hackles raised when face to face. Pulled very strongly towards him as he left, was still pulling hard towards him when he was out of view, not eating food, mid tail wags, hackles raised, ears forward. Switched to a harness, when in the yard did not approach Theodore. When Theodore sniffed, he would turn around and sniff, snapped and hard barked when Theodore put a paw on him. Return to Kennel: Walked back loose leash, hopped right into kennel and leash was removed easily. Color Level: Blue"
