Story
Moon Pie's Story Meet Moon Pie 2 Years Old | 80 lbs | Spayed | UTD on Vaccines | House Trained Moon Pie is an 80-pound athlete wrapped in pure affection. She will be two years old on June 27 and is a Boxer × Hanging Tree mix — which means brains, drive, and heart in one powerful package. Her story began with resilience. She survived a severe back injury after being trapped under a pallet. A veterinarian stepped in, treated the wound, and gave her the second chance she deserved. You’ll see the scar — it’s part of her story, not a limitation. Moon Pie is deeply people-oriented. She believes she is a lap dog. She thrives on connection, attention, and having “her person.” Temperament & Home Needs * Loves people * High energy, working-dog drive * House trained * Spayed (September 11) * Up to date on vaccinations She does well with a small dog in her current home, but she has had conflict with a similarly sized, high-energy dog. For everyone’s safety and success, we are recommending: ✔ An only-dog home, or ✔ A home with a calm, opposite-sex dog after proper introduction ✔ Experienced handler preferred ✔ Secure fencing required ✔ Active lifestyle strongly encouraged This is not a couch-potato dog. Moon Pie will excel with structure, exercise, and clear leadership. Think hiking partner, property companion, training enthusiast, or someone who understands working-line energy. She is not aggressive toward people. She is powerful, athletic, and needs management that matches her drive. Ideal Home Someone who: * Appreciates strong, smart dogs * Understands arousal management * Provides daily mental and physical outlets * Wants a loyal, affectionate companion Moon Pie isn’t difficult — she’s driven. There’s a difference.

Story
Meet Bruce — the boy who’s been waiting for someone to see the gentle heart behind those big, hopeful eyes.Bruce is a 3 year old, 50 pound American Staffordshire Terrier with a story that tugs at you in all the right ways. He was found wandering as a stray, and although he tried his best to be brave, the shelter environment was overwhelming for him. The stress took a toll — he lost weight, shut down a bit, and quietly waited for life to get better. And then it did. Thanks to Sammy’s Hope, Bruce was welcomed into a loving foster home where he could finally exhale. In just a short time, he has blossomed into the dog he was always meant to be. He’s relaxed, curious about the world, and so affectionate it’s impossible not to fall for him. His appetite is back, he sleeps soundly through the night in his crate without a peep, and he’s rediscovered the simple joy of playing with his toys.Bruce is friendly, eager to please, and knows his basic commands. He’s also extremely food motivated — treats are his love language — which makes training fun and rewarding. His foster family describes him as a sweetheart who just wants to be near his people and soak up the comfort he missed for so long.Bruce isn’t just looking for a home. He’s looking for his home — the one where he can continue to feel safe, cherished, and part of something real and lasting. If you’re searching for a loyal companion with a tender spirit and a heart ready to bond deeply, Bruce is waiting. If you are interested in meeting Bruce, please complete an Interest Form. An adoption counselor will contact you to schedule an appointment.February 4, 2026, 2:12 pm

Story
Make A Difference in your Community - Adopt a Shelter Dog! Would you like to foster a Shelter Survivor? For more information, visit us at www.sheltersurvivors.com THIS IS A COURTESY POSTING – Betty is not in one of our foster homes, we are assisting her owners with finding her a new home. Meet Betty! This beautiful 5-year-old girl needs a new home. Betty has hip/knee dysplasia, a very manageable condition, but when she is not feeling well she doesn’t like to play and needs some downtime. She gives warning signs when she is overstimulated, and has never bitten anyone, but she did snap at the little girl in her current home and her parents feel she would do best in home without small children who might not understand when she needs space. Older children would be fine! Betty’s dysplasia doesn’t slow her down at all and only bothers her when she spends a long period of time running around. She currently does not need any pain medication. She loves going on walks and hikes! She also enjoys running around her backyard and chasing balls, and she likes to chase after the water from hoses and sprinklers. She adores swimming! Betty loves to cuddle, sit on your lap, and lay underneath blankets (she sleeps in bed with her parents). She likes bones, bully sticks, and chewing up stuffed animals. She is completely housetrained and rings a bell when she needs to go outside. She is good with commands and is very treat driven. Betty likes to be introduced slowly to new, unfamiliar dogs. She gets along with dogs she knows and routinely visits family/friends that have dogs of their own, but she can be a bit protective around her food. Her parents have no problem sticking their hands into her food bowl while she is eating, she is only protective of her food when another dog is near her. She can be a bit anxious when meeting new people, and may bark or growl, but only because she is afraid. Once she gets to know you, she is friendly and affectionate. Betty is spayed and her owners are getting her shots updated. She weighs about 50 pounds. Betty is afraid of fireworks and thunder and her vet has prescribed anxiety medication for these situations. If you would like more information or would like to arrange to meet Betty, please fill out an application for her and we will put you in touch with her owners. She is an absolutely great dog! To adopt Betty, please complete our online dog application at https://www.sheltersurvivors.com/application.html and return it to shelter.survivors.nj@gmail.com. Story
Make A Difference in your Community - Adopt a Shelter Dog! Would you like to foster a Shelter Survivor? For more information, visit us at www.sheltersurvivors.com Meet Oliver: Your Loyal Adventure Buddy! Looking for a devoted companion who'll fill your days with joy? Meet Oliver, a handsome 3-year-old Lab/Pit mix with a heart of gold! This neutered boy will celebrate his 4th birthday this November, and he's hoping to do it in his forever home. Oliver thrives on human connection and routine, making him a predictable and reliable companion. He's been professionally trained and continues to learn, showing what a good listener he truly is. While he responds well to consistent guidance, he needs a calm, firm hand rather than raised voices, as he can be sensitive to yelling. His playful spirit shines brightest during games of "catch me if you can", he'll grab a toy, flash those soulful eyes, and dash off hoping you'll join in the fun! And if you forget his bedtime toothbrush treat? Expect the gentlest nudges until you remember! Speaking of nudges, Oliver has mastered the art of gentle communication! When he needs to go outside for a potty break, wants to remind you about a promised treat, or is simply in the mood to play, he'll softly nudge your arm with his nose. It's his polite way of saying, "Excuse me, but I believe we have some unfinished business!" Oliver is quite the communicator in other ways too! If you happen to leave for a while and forgot something important (like his water or food), he'll let you know when you return with the most melodious "wooo whoo whooowooo" howls, his special way of expressing his feelings that's impossible not to smile at. One of Oliver's most endearing qualities is his emotional intelligence. When you're feeling down, he'll be right by your side, offering comfort and unconditional support, a true emotional support companion who senses when his humans need extra love. This loyal boy forms deep bonds with his people and can experience separation anxiety when routines change. Some CBD calming chews have worked wonders to help him feel secure during transitions. Oliver doesn't do well in standard crates, but his current family will provide his special high-anxiety crate designed to help him feel safe and secure – one less thing for you to worry about! Oliver is fully up-to-date on all his vaccinations and shots, so you can welcome him home with complete peace of mind about his health. Oliver would do best as the only pet in a home with experienced dog owners who understand larger breeds. He's never shared his space with other pets and would prefer to keep all your love and attention for himself! Are you ready to welcome this lovable goofball into your life? Oliver is ready to fill your home with endless love, playful antics, and unwavering loyalty. To adopt Oliver, please complete our online dog application by going to sheltersurvivors.com Click on the home page, look for "Application" at the top of the home page, and complete the application. Hit the submit button once you have completed the application in its entirety. This will expedite the adoption process. Adoption Fee: $400.00
