Apply on our website ( https://www.healingheartsrescue.org/adopt )  to  set up a private meeting or check below for my adoption event schedule.   Age: Approximately 3 years old Weight: 12 lbs Dog friendly: Yes, with slow introductions Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Yes, with older kids Potty trained: Yes, good on a schedule Crate trained: Working on it!   Seeking an energetic and devoted snuggle buddy with massive potential? Asia is a nimble, perceptive, and loving 12-15 pound chihuahua mix, with maybe some Jack Russell or dachshund. She came to foster care quite shut down, with no interest in toys or skills beyond potty training (potty habits are excellent, by the way—she has remarkable bladder control, so sleeping in is no problem). She’s since learned a half dozen commands and plays fetch with her beloved ducky toy; her personality evolves every day, so we’re sure there are even more delightful developments in her future! It’s all about avoiding surprises and channeling energy for this girl. She will need either a fenced yard or an active adopter! Asia lives with and tolerates cats and other dogs with thoughtful introductions. She’s still learning that new people aren’t scary, and needs a family without small children or heavy visitor traffic. Asia will crate for transport and handles car rides well, and is making great progress in kenneling in the home. She deeply bonds with her people and would love someone who is around a lot. She would do best without shared walls. She thrives with plenty of exercise and stimulation, and when motivated (ahem, somebody loves food) she demonstrates excellent problem-solving and agility. She would be ideal for someone willing to channel her energy into productive learning, such as agility training, but who also loves under-the-cover snuggles at night and long belly-rub sessions during the day. If you’re ready to invest in Asia, she will invest in you! Adoption Fee: $495  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.INTERESTED IN MEETING ME? Age: Approximately 3 years old Weight: 4 pounds Dog friendly: yes, needs one in home Cat friendly: unknown Kid friendly: yes, older considerate kids only Potty trained: yes Crate trained: yes but doesn’t need one Little Miss Bambi is about a 3 year old Chihuahua. She is 4 pounds of total cuteness and all love you possibly want and then some. She has one eye that is half brown and half blue. Bambi will need to have another dog friend to play with. She likes to play with all of her dog friends with her toys, playing tug of war or just zooming around in the house or outside. She is happy to just sit on your lap getting belly rubs and sleep or to sleep under the blankets next to your chest. She is great with potting outside, using a puppy door, riding in a car, walking on a leash. She isn't fond of a lot of steps, like going down to the basement but going up and down just a few she is good with that. Bambi is an amazing little girl, she gets along with all two or four legged friends and believes that she can do anything. Oh, did I say that she is the cutest little thing around! Crate trained: Working on it! Loki truly is the god of mischief! When this adorable adolescent chihuahua (mixed with something impossibly leggy like a min pin, baby deer, or tiny giraffe) isn’t getting himself into puppy-like scrapes, he’s giving kisses and snuggles to everyone (except cats—definitely no cats for this guy). He’s constantly asking his doggy foster sibling to play, occasionally crossing the line into annoying; other dogs would be wonderful for him as long as they can handle the bouncing and play biting and can help teach him some boundaries. Loki needs finishing on the potty, leash, and crate training front. He’s very close with potty habits but finds litter boxes and their vicinity quite convenient. Walks are a sniffing excursion rather than an exercise and potty experience, and while he happily eats and transports in a crate, he’s working up to longer stays. Loki is working on a few commands, which he’ll obey if he’s not too excited about his surroundings. He’s quite mouthy right now, but he’s learning to redirect his chewing to squeaky or tugging toys or to gnaw on chewy treats like bully sticks (perfect adult teeth, by the way—excellent shape!). This maelstrom of mischief may sound like a handful, but one look at that underbite and those gorgeous tan eyes, and you just might find it worth the adventure. Loki will be a wonderful addition for someone who’s ready to play, train, protect, and snuggle for years to come! Crate trained:  No, does not like the crate.  Can be left out for short periods of time or confined in a larger area for longer periods of time. Matthew (aka Rocky) came to Healing Hearts Rescue from MO.  He was found wandering the streets, skin and bones.  His rescuer in MO said she really didn’t know if he was going to make it.  Here he is 2 months later, a feisty little senior guy who is up to 10 lbs! Rocky is a very sweet little guy.  He gives little nose kisses and appreciates ear rubs and butt scratches.  Rocky sleeps on a pile of blankets or a dog bed.  He loves to eat!  He gets along well with his foster brother but would likely be fine as an only dog too.  He is a bit of a flat lander. He does fine with a few stairs but access to a full flight should be restricted since his sight is not 100%.  Since he is an older guy his hearing is not great either. Rocky is looking for a quiet home with respectful humans and dogs.  Do you have a soft spot for this little cutie? Story
Hi all! My name is Bender but my friends call me Charlie. I am a fun-loving guy looking for my forever family! I was recently returned to rescue because I grew bigger than my previous family was expecting me to get. Their loss because bigger just means more of me to love you with! I am currently about 35 lbs and my mom thinks I’m some sort of yellow lab mix so at 7 months old I will probably still have a little growing to do. I am your typical happy-go-lucky pup who loves to give kisses, cuddle on the couch and play with (destroy) toys. More than anything I love to play and run around with my foster brother as I have lots of energy to burn off. I seem to be good with dogs and people so far although I sometimes bark at them out the window. I met some kids at an event and LOVED them! As I am a puppy, I can get a bit mouthy and jump up on you when we are playing, but I never mean any harm and my mom has me working on it. Speaking of training I know how to sit already and we are working hold/wait commands. Potty training is a work in progress, I sometimes have a hard time holding my bladder when I get over excited or anxious so my mom is taking me out often when I’m not in my crate. I do like my crate okay, I go right in when asked and am pretty quiet overall in there until I get bored or need to go to the bathroom then I whine or bark to get your attention. You need to give me something constructive to chew on otherwise I might nibble on the bedding. I go all night in my crate with no accidents and am generally pretty good during the day when my mom is working as long as we take a few breaks. If I can tell that you are actually leaving I might cry in my crate for the first few minutes. I am currently living in a condo and my mom thinks I would do better with more space and a yard to run around in to help get my energy out. I do pull on a leash and am pretty strong already for my size. Sometimes my mom brings me to a friend’s yard and I am good in the car on the way over and then super excited to race all around when I get there. I am learning how to play fetch too, which is so cool! Although giving the ball back is still a work in progress. I have a lot of love to give, and I would love to give it to you! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $575.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 17, 2024, 1:40 am

Almost like she is making a big comfy nest for herself, which has led to me not being able to find her because inevitably the blanket nest is bigger than her! She was great with meeting grand kids. Thelma can and will climb over baby gates and on furniture to get to you. She has acclimated to our resident dogs very well and will require a canine companion in her adoptive home.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

Story
My foster mommy says I'm a very sweet girl who gives amazing kisses. I'm a little girl at about 18 lbs, but I have BIG love to give! In my current foster home there are two dogs my age/size and we get along really great..with the one we even started snuggling once or twice. We LOVE to play and run around chasing each other back and forth, play tug and wrestle - I love it!!! I would love to have a big brother or sister doggie to teach me the ropes as I gain my confidence and of course play. My foster parents think a fenced in yard would be best for me to run and play and get out my zoomies of course! I'm still getting used to sharing my people so sometimes my foster mommy and papa have to remind me it's to share them with the other dogs but I respond well to their direction cause I'm a good listener. We've been going more in public recently and I do pretty well ...more socializing would definitely benefit me. I find meeting doggies out in the world is kinda scary for me because I don't know their intentions. More intimate one on one slow introductions to other pups will be key.   Just recently I started sleeping in my human's bed at night and I love that too. I love burrowing under the covers. I can stay in my kennel at night if I see you're close by, but cuddling my foster papa at night is really my favorite (don't tell foster mommy). Speaking of my kennel, I'm really not a fan, especially if my people are not around I can whimper and be vocal in there. I'm currently in a kennel during the day while my foster parents are at work but I'm also between my two foster brothers in their kennels. I'm potty trained on a schedule and know to do my business outside. My fosters noticed recently I try to get my people's attention by annoying them or going to the door and lightly pawing it. This is not to say there weren't a few "oopsies'' in the beginning as we both got to know each other's habits/routines and hey, nobody is perfect, right? I'm housetrained and don't try to get into things that aren't mine.. as long as there are doggie toys and stuffies for me to focus on. Put some treats/food in a Kong and I'll keep myself entertained.  I'm a championship cuddler and enjoy cuddling my people.   I love to look out the window and see outside.Sometimes I get a bit excited by strangers and play guard doggie to keep my people safe from those bad guys delivering boxes! Speaking of strangers, I'm a bit timid and shy when meeting new people. With a calm approach and (once I know you're a good person) I warm up very quickly and even give random kisses on occasion..    I'm pretty good in the car. I like to look out the windows and usually settle after a bit. I'm good on a leash too! We went walking at a car show recently and even at this place called Home Depot and even Petsmart. With a little more practice I'll be a champ soon enough.   I'm still working on commands like sit and stay but I'm very treat motivated so training me should go well if you have those little treats to reward me. I'm such a smart girl, if I do say so myself.    There aren't any kids in my current home but my foster mommy has been told I'm good with kids. I've even met a few in public which went really well. I went right up to them. Slow respectful intros should go well with EVERYONE because I'm shy around new humans in general.   Hopefully you like what you've read and would like to meet me and make me a member of your family. I promise you won't regret it.     Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Hi there, my name is Camille and I’m a three year old Chihuahua mix. I am potty trained and kennel trained. I am very cuddly. I love to sit next to my foster mom in her chair. When she is not in the chair, I will keep it warmed up for her. I have to say that I am so nervous when there is a thunderstorm. I wear a thunder jacket to help me calm down. I do find places to hide like behind the toilet or in the closet. It does take me a little while to warm up to you but if you sit down, I will join you. When I go outside, I run around some but I come right over to you to get the leash hooked up. I am hoping that perfect, calm person is looking for me right now. Are you the one?    Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, dental, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
