My name is Sookie! I am 1 year old and I weigh approximately 9 lbs. I am fostered in Danbury, North Carolina but easy, affordable transportation is available. I was turned into the local County Animal Shelter but I'm not sure why. I'm such a sweet, loving little guy! I love being with people, especially my foster dad! I follow my fosters around the house and when it's time to go to bed I can easily jump up into there high-rise bed and cuddle up next to my foster dad. I ride okay in the car. My last few car rides have not been very pleasant as they took me out of my previous home. I have a medium energy level and I love to play with the other dogs. I get along well with other dogs, 5 lb to 100 lbs., all ages. I don't know about cats because the rescue doesn't have any. I would be good with kids, but I will not be adopted into a home with young children because I'm so small. I walk on a leash and I am not yappy. In fact for a chihuahua, I'm pretty quiet. My foster family says that I'm very smart! I have a very sweet temperament and have never shown any signs of aggression to any other dog or to a person. She is expected to be fully grown at about 1 year old and is a total blend of breeds (see full DNA results below). She has quickly adjusted to her new foster home and her current foster parent has many positive things to share: “Buttercup is very sweet and friendly to my dogs and the neighborhood dogs who stop by. I was told that she was skittish, and she has been a bit, but not bad overall. Buttercup has done great with my two dogs – especially Popeye who is playful and will play with her as much as she wants. Buttercup has had no accidents in her crate or in the house. She is affectionate and a cuddler with a lap dog side to her personality. Prospective adopters need to know that Buttercup is a very active girl. One of the reasons she has done well here is that I have a fenced yard and doggie doors so she can run and explore quite a bit. She loves toys and Nylabones and will run for tennis balls that I throw. I was worried about her energy for the first 24 hours, but she is settling in very well and does great with set routines. Buttercup is content in her crate with a few toys and was only barking on day one. She will need walks and playtime to burn off her energy. I believe she would be fine as an only dog if her new owner spends time playing fetch, keep-away, tug of war, and walks. She already plays keep-away and tug of war with my dog. After outside time, she will curl up for a nap on a doggie bed with Popeye. She loves everyone she meets—people and other dogs as well and is always ready to play. Buttercup is working on crate-training in her foster home and doing well with that. She has also been working on her leash skills as that seemed to be a new experience for her when she arrived here with us. She does tend to like to spin around and act silly on walks but with daily practice in her new home, she should soon have the whole process under control! Buttercup wanted to play during her photo shoot so it was little tough to get great pics of this cutie. She’s a fun little pup who’s certainly going to be a great joy for her new family. Buttercup weighs about 15 pounds currently and her adoption fee is $350. She’s spayed, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. Baxter is a sweet little 6# boy who was dropped off to me at 3 weeks old.  He was dumped on a Good Samaritan’s front porch late at night.  He loves people, dogs and toys.  He needs a resident dog since he didn’t have a mama or siblings from a young age.  He needs this so he can learn how to be a pup and so the other dog can teach him right from wrong.  I won’t make exceptions with this so please only fill out an application if you have another dog.  He’s going thru his puppy mouthy stage right now but is learning that teeth are for eating and chewing toys, not fingers.  We are unsure of his exact breed mix but he will end up being a smaller pup.  His adoption fee is $450 which includes his neuter, age appropriate vaccines, microchip and current monthly prevention.  To fill out an application for this animal or a general application click HERE.  All animals are up to date on age appropriate shots, microchipped and fixed. My family sent me to the rescue to find a new home because six children were just too much for me and I was too much for them. I was nippy with the youngest ones and for everyone's safety it was time to move on. I was traumatized when I first came to my foster mom's house, but now I am relaxed and enjoying a calm setting.  I like to play with my nyla bone, rope toys and stuffed squeaky toys. I have the cutest under bite and I love to snuggle with my foster mom. There are other small dogs here and I have adapted to them, it took a while for me to learn how to interact, because I had never been around other dogs. I am very reactive to new people and situations and will bark and show fear aggression. I can be worked through this, if you have experience at socializing reactive dogs. It will be a work in progress to help me. On the other hand ,a country home without a lot of people activity, would be lovely. I  have been going out on adventures with a wonderful volunteer who can take me for brisk walks to expend some of my energy and I learned to look forward to seeing her now that we have had a few walks together.
