Story
Morty is a senior Dachshund mix with a heart full of love and a strong desire to be wherever his people are. At around 10+ years old and 16 lbs, he’s the definition of a Velcro dog: if you’re home, Morty will be right by your side, in your lap, or snuggled under a blanket near you. Morty is mostly potty trained and does a great job letting you know when he needs to go outside. He walks nicely on a harness and enjoys spending time with other small dogs and cats. While he can coexist with larger dogs, he seems most comfortable around dogs his own size. Like many long-backed breeds, Morty will need ramps or stairs to help protect his back and should not be jumping on and off furniture. He’s also not a good off-leash candidate because once he decides to go exploring, he’s not likely to come back when called! Morty is a sweet, affectionate boy who thrives on attention and companionship. He can be a little anxious when he can’t be near his people and may whine or bark to let you know he’d rather be included. Because of this, he’ll do best with a family that understands his clingy nature and will shower him with the love he craves. For his age, Morty is in great health. He recently had a dental procedure and only has a few teeth remaining, so he does best eating soft food. The good news? He’s very food motivated and always excited for mealtime. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will happily spend his days cuddled up next to you, Morty may be your perfect match! To adopt him, please apply on www.orphanannierescue.org His adoption fee is $350, which includes his shots up-to-date, microchipping, neuter, heartworm testing, and dental cleaning.

Story
How precious is this tiny nugget? Zara is such a wonderful little wiener dog with a curious way of seeing the world. Her previous owners loved her but did not have the means to care for her when she suffered an IVDD back injury and was simultaneously discovered to be heartworm positive. Once she came into DREAM, we took Zara in right away to see our specialist, who performed surgery on the ruptured disc. Since then, she's begun her HW treatment and has undergone acupuncture and cold-laser therapy to help wake her central nervous system back up. It took almost 12 weeks, but we finally have her up and walking...most of the time. She is still wobbly, however this does not impede her quality of life. And if she tires herself out, Zara is perfectly content to get around in a set of wheels. Her mobility challenges certainly don't slow her down from playing with the other dogs in the house. Because of her physical limitations, Zara does need someone who can understand her bodily limits when it comes to holding her urine and stool. This is very easy to learn, very clean and the great thing is when kept on a schedule, she is house-trained and can go most anywhere. She does require someone to check her bladder and make sure it is empty after she finishes. This muscle is still regaining its strength after her injury. Zara is a friendly little muppet who loves her people and has the gumption to thrive no matter the circumstances. It's impossible to be around her without smiling and wanting to snuggle her. She is very much a lap-girl. If you are sitting down, she wants to be right next to you. Her goal in life is to be carried around 24 / 7 / 365. DREAM has helped dogs of all capability levels and we believe this girl is really easy to care for. Resource material is available for you to order as well. One of the original board members wrote this extremely helpful book about day to day life with a "down dog".... Honey Have You Squeezed the Dachshund. If you are interested in adopting Zara, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Zara's adoption fee is $500. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Zara will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expense is greater than our adoption fees. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Instagram , Facebook and Twitter

Story
Boscoe has a number of talents and his foster mom calls him a smart Houdini. He quickly figured out how to open pocket doors to get into another room. He will push doors open if they are not latched to stay within sight of his person. He is an all star snuggler and we are sure he will pass the snuggles certification exam with flying colors. 😉 Boscoe had been training & is now about 90% house trained if kept on a schedule and his cues are picked up and he’s let outside for a potty break. He definitely needs a secure fenced yard as he likes to explore and looks for ways to let himself out for a solo adventures. He's not shown any signs of being a digger but he has shown tendencies to be a door darter. Boscoe is very athletic and can jump up quite high. Walking is his jam and he’s a perfect gentleman on a leash. He really loves being around people and can have some separation anxiety but is getting better. He's good with dogs and people but much prefers his people over another dog. Boscoe does NOT like to be crated and will chew the metal on the crate as his anxiety escalates being in there. He usually has something to say and lets his voice be heard if he isn’t feeling secure. His foster mom says he has settled in and she thinks he had a hard time adjusting to a new environment because he wasn’t around many different people and situations before coming to DREAM. He has met lots of new people and is doing well at becoming friends. If you are interested in adopting Boscoe, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Boscoe's adoption fee is $700. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Boscoe will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Story
McGuinness was found as a stray and hit the jackpot when he safely made his way to rescue. This wispy wooly fluff ball may or may not have any dachshund lineage - who can tell under all that floof?!? Whatever breed he is, this boy is one fabulous dog. He is friendly and doing well with house training (not 100% yet), but please give him a moment to settle in as he can be nervouse in new environments. He enjoys walks in peaceful parks but is not a fan of loud noises and cars speeding past. He likes to go and can be an escape artist zipping right past you at the door. Because of this, a fence is required. He is fine with other calm small dogs but also would be good as a solo canine cause he loves his people. He is not a fan of being left alone so someone who has time to share would be the best. Another element he is NOT a fan of his crate. He hates it! He would say he loathes it. Tee hee. This is something we are continuing to work on slowly with him, but also keeping him calm and happy is a priority for us as well. So if you are a SAHP, McGuinness may be just the guy for you. Story
Would you just look at this silly young girl?!? Talk about a heart stealer with that head tilt. She is all that and a bag of chips!!! Sweet Pea has proven herself to be so sweet and so incredibly smart. She loves to play fetch and she adores people. She also really likes her crate. She will happily sleep in it all night long and goes to it as a source of comfort if something spooks her, like a loud noise that she isn't used to yet. (Definitely not a fan of the recent fireworks.) She is young, so be prepared for puppy energy. She definitely will need lots of exercise-time and a fenced yard to run in. But she also loves her chill-time too. She's pretty much agreeable to anything you want her to do. She also REALLY enjoys playing with other dogs, so a fence and a canine playmate are on her must-have list. If you are interested in adopting Sweet Pea, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Sweet Pea's adoption fee is $800.
