Story
Meet Harley. Harley is 7 years, 9 months old and 75 lbs. He is active, healthy , and submissive. He is a " Chilled Dog and a Gem" according to his foster.  He is a Chocolate Lab that was born and lived at a puppy mill. He came with a Fancy Pedigree and his AKC Registered name is Harley. He was the stud for most of the puppy litters at the mill. He was born on 11/14/2015.  Amazingly, he is the most social boy. He is very submissive and can be intimidated by little dogs. He will huddle in fear until the dog quits barking at him from afar. He is a gentle boy. He rides well in a car. Harley is being fostered in South Bend , Indiana He needs a secure fenced in back yard, no invisible fences. We also require a home where a primary adult is home during the day. . Because of  size and possible skittishness... children in the home should be 10 years of age or older.  He would do wonderful in a home with an active retired couple.  Harley has been neutered,  Is up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.  ##1789847##

Story
Winnie is a wonderful sweet-faced Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix. Catahoula's are a wonderful rare breed, and are very affectionate with their humans. She is mixed with a lab which makes her one of the most popular dog breeds. Catahoula's typically need a lot of exercise, however Winnie is really a couch potato. She will play and play, loves to run in the yard, but then settles down and loves to watch TV with her humans. Her birthdate is approx 1-27-23. She is 7 months old and 35 lbs. She will be a medium size dog when she is full grown. Winnie is a social butterfly, lover, submissive face kisser, and cuddler. She loves to be held and cuddled. Belly Rubs are her favorite thing. Winnie can free roam without chewing or getting into things. She was born in the Appalachian Mountains near Tennessee, and ended up at a Kentucky Kill Shelter with her sister Wilma. They were very bonded and her sister was adopted, so we have reduced her adoption fee so she can find the right home quickly, like her sister.  Winnie is a beautiful Black.Brown Brindle color.  Winnie needs a fenced in back yard for safety, no invisible fences. She needs a home where the primary adult is home more.  With the adoption of all puppies we require children in the home to be 7 years of age or older.  She has been spayed;  up to date on all vaccinations and microchipped. Adoption fee $150    ##1758453##

Story
Meet Millie a Golden Retriever we rescued from a puppy mill. Please read her description thoroughly before putting in an application. Millie was born Sept 25, 2022. She weighs 50 lbs.. She is a gentle, sweet and loveable soul. Millie is in a foster home. She has gone from being terrified of people to loving everyone here. She will dance around for treats, and play with other dogs all day. However, you will not see the happy side of Millie for a few weeks. She will revert to being afraid and sometimes terrified in new surroundings and with new people. The trusting process will start all over again.  She needs a special home. She will cower down when someone approaches her.  She will lay in a corner with her head down at first. She will not come to you. She will need to adjust on her own time   She is very treat motivated, although the first few weeks she would not take any treats from us. She was too scared. She does not walk on a leash, she will lay down. Once she trusts you, she will walk a bit on a leash, however she still has a long way to go. You may have to carry her outside for a while. She gets along great with other dogs She needs another friendly, submissive, younger, easy going dog in the home to teach her how to be a dog, this is a must  Your dog must have a good vet record with a history of being on heartworm prevention.  She needs an adult in the family who is home more, no young children under 10 years of age, although she loves all people and kids she is skittish.   She sleeps in a crate in the bedroom at night. She sleeps through the night, without a peep as long as the crate is in the bedroom. If we put the crate in another room, she will bark for a while.   She also has a crate in the family room which is her safe place when the door is open. She will spend much of her time in the crate at first, until she feels safe enough to come out.  Millie will take a lot of time and patience for her to come around. She needs a special home. Thankfully treats are the way to her heart, but not at first.  She is going through her puppy stage now that she is comfortable in her foster home. She will get into things, and needs to be watched for chewing things like pillows.and indoor plants.  She is housetrained , however the foster home does have a pet door so she goes outside as she pleases. Applicants must be within a 1 hour distance from Grovertown, Indiana 46531. 2 meet and greets will be required. First you must come and meet Millie here, the 2nd meet and greet we will bring her to your home. If the 2nd meet and greet goes well she will stay with you for a 10 day trial adoption.  Millie is spayed, up to date on vaccines and is microchipped. She is a sweet, gentle unsocialized girl that came from a bad puppy mill and needs a lot of patience before she will trust you. Please watch her video and put in an application on our website. Meet and greets are by appointment only and your application must be approved before we can schedule any appointment to meet her. We are looking for the right home,  Only apply if you are serious and meet our adoption criteria. You must work out of your home or be retired. She can not be crated for long periods of time.  You must have a secure fenced in yard, and another confident and happy dog to show Millie how to be a dog.  Apply at https://indianasaveadog.com/adopt-available-dogs-1 ##1804545##

Story
Abby is 3 ½ years old and 40 lbs. She is a lab/boxer mix. She needs a special adopter that has worked with or had skittish and shy dogs. She has been with us for over a year and she was at a kill shelter for 1 year. She came to us very un-socialized however she has come a long way. She is a very good dog. She is calmer, and very loving. She would prefer a quiet home, she is not a city dog. There are times we do not even know she is here. At first, she will be very shy and standoffish. She is at a foster home and when people come and visit, she will just sit in the corner and observe. If approached she will run away from a stranger. She is very loving and friendly when she gets to know and trust you. Treats are a way to her heart. She is not a dog for everyone… just someone who has the time and patience to show her she can trust you.  She currently goes to Daycare a few days a week to help with her socialization and training. Because she will be scared at first, we will need to bring Abby to your home. Therefore, we are looking for adopters that are no farther than a 1-hour drive from Plymouth, Indiana, 46563.  Abby needs a secured fenced in back yard, someone  who is home more and no children under the age of 13 in the home since she can be skittish. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $100 ##1539943##

AVAAs a Royal Resident, my adoption fee has been covered by a grant from the Petfinder Foundation and KIA.I'm just a young girl with the most striking topaz eyes, and beautiful red coat. I prefer to be with women, because men can make me somewhat nervous. It may take me time to warm up to you, but once I do, I promise you will have a friend for life.I am currently working with a trainer to help build my confidence, and let my lovely personality shine. As for my heritage, well I'm part Husky, so I'll need a secure fenced yard and due to my shyness no children please.DOB 12/27/2020 46 poundsI'm waiting for a home to call my own. email webmaster@petrefuge.com to learn more about me or fill out an application at https://www.petrefuge.com/adoptPet Refuge was formed in 1978 to help with cats and dogs in need of homes.
