Story
Wow, we sure have a story to share with you...
Meet Cillian. This 29-pound, about six-year-old, scruffy terrier was found in a mud hole that he dug to stay warm. He was picked up by Michigan City Animal Control and we were able to secure a foster home for him. Upon initial intake at MHS, he had several ticks, hardly any fur, many scabs and sores, and was malnourished. He may need medicated baths every couple of weeks or so until his fur fully grows back but, otherwise, he seems to be quite healthy!
Now, just over one month later, his fur is growing back and his personality has started to show and shine brightly. Cillian has been cleared to be available for adoption so he is now looking for his very own family. If you want to add this handsome fellow to your home, please call us at 219-872-4499. But first, please read what his foster parents has to say about him...
"He's such a unique and special character! I really think he would do great with another dog in the home. He is so laid back around other animals, but he has really started to look to my dog to see where he's headed, what he's doing, and what his read on a situation might be as he takes things in.
Cillian has been such a sweetheart to have. I'm excited for his next adventure! Behaviorally, he's such a good boy. He is so calm, relaxed, and just seems to go with the flow most days. He seems to get more and more confident in his surroundings every day. I can't really think of any "bad habits," per se, that would need to be addressed ahead of time; he simply is who he is and I'm not sure those traits could be changed or unlearned. He has taken to the treats and will sit, shake, high-five, and lay down with all the bribery necessary to accomplish the task!
Cillian is not your overly-energetic dog that loves to jump, chase, play ball/fetch, or bounce around. He is relatively quiet, inquisitive, curious, mellow, and the biggest couch potato. He loves to simply be near you and has been very tuned-in to where I am at all times. He walks well on a leash. He does not recall to his name, though, so an eye does need to be kept on him or he will need to remain on leash or in a fenced-in yard.
He has interacted very well with my dog, cats, and outdoor animals (ducks, geese & chickens) and is very non-confrontational. I have not had him around younger children, but he loves to hang out with my high schooler.
Sometimes, Cillian almost acts like he's afraid to be left behind sometimes. He panics a bit when I leave the house (morning school runs, baseball games for my son, etc.), but as my dog relaxes, he seems to take cues from him that things are ok and that I'll be back. As I come back home, Cillian is usually really excited to see me/us and is really talkative - almost as if he's letting me know that he didn't like it and didn't know what to do with himself. He seems to calm back down with some extra pets/hugs and doesn't fully settle back in until he's curled up next to my legs on the couch for a while. I think it will take some time for that confidence level to be built back up for him and his new family will need to be patient with him while he adjusts to their schedule."
