Story
Dorothy is the perfect mix of playful energy and sweet affection. Like all of the Golden Girls, she is still adjusting to a world that is very new to her, but we are already seeing so many wonderful pieces of her personality emerge.Since moving into foster care, Dorothy has made incredible progress. She has embraced her new routine, is eating well, and continues to grow more confident with each passing day. She is doing remarkably well with the beginning stages of house training and has not had a single accident in her foster home. Dorothy also sleeps through the night in her crate next to her foster's bed, settling in beautifully after a few minutes of reassurance.Dorothy loves to play and tends to be one of the rougher, more enthusiastic wrestlers with the other dogs. She is goofy, expressive, and always ready for some fun once she feels comfortable. One of Dorothy's favorite things is exploring the world through her nose. Whether she is investigating a new scent in the yard or taking in the sights and smells on a walk, she approaches life with curiosity and enthusiasm. She is learning about leash walking and is doing very well with a harness. While she is gaining confidence every day, she can still startle when unexpected things happen, particularly if a car passes close by while she is walking. She is also the biggest of our beagles, complete with lots of extra skin that makes her especially perfect for scratches and smooshes—something she thoroughly enjoys from the people she trusts. Ear scratches are another fast favorite.Even with her playful side, Dorothy also has a soft, cuddly side. As she develops trust with her caregivers, she has started leaning in for petting, cheek scratches, and quiet moments sitting beside the people she feels safe with. Watching her choose affection and connection has been one of the most rewarding parts of her journey.Treats are absolutely the way to Dorothy's heart. She is a big fan of peanut butter and anything peanut butter flavored, and she is always happy to accept a tasty reward while learning new things.Dorothy would do well in a home with another playful, confident dog who can match her energy, continue building her confidence, and help show her the ropes as she settles into home life. She clearly enjoys canine companionship and gains confidence from following the lead of another dog. In the right situation, she may also do well as an only dog with adopters committed to continuing her socialization and confidence building.Dorothy has met a young child and did well. However, because she can still startle easily due to her past experiences, we believe she would do best in a home with children 12 years of age or older who can understand her need for patience, predictability, and gentle interactions. We currently anticipate Dorothy being ready for adoption around June 17, pending her remaining medical care and spay surgery. We would love to identify her future family before then so they can begin a series of meet-and-treat appointments and build a relationship with her before she goes home. Dorothy's foster spent several days visiting her before bringing her home, and that investment in trust and familiarity made for a much smoother transition. We hope to create that same opportunity for her future adopters.Dorothy will need a patient home willing to continue helping her build confidence while embracing both her silly and snuggly sides. In return, we think she is going to make an absolutely wonderful companion. For more information on the adoption process, visit hsbcpets.com/beagles. Story
Blanche is quickly proving herself to be the playful, curious comedian of the Golden Girls. Although she is still settling in and learning how to trust after a long life of trauma, her personality is beginning to shine brighter every single day. This girl wants to investigate everything. Blanche is inquisitive, intelligent, and always paying attention to what is happening around her. She is learning that life can be fun and has started discovering the joy of toys, chewing, zooming around the yard, and playful exploration at her own pace.In many ways, Blanche feels much younger than her years. It often seems as though she is making up for all the puppyhood experiences she never had. When given the freedom to run, she gets the most joyful zoomies, often becoming so excited that she is completely oblivious to her surroundings, barreling full speed into other dogs, people, fences, or whatever happens to be in her path. Watching her discover play is both heartwarming and hilarious.Because of her background, Blanche will require a very special and specific home. She will need complete house training, and adopters should be prepared for that process to take time and potentially be more challenging than with a typical dog. Many of the everyday skills pet dogs learn as puppies are things Blanche is only now beginning to experience and understand. While Blanche is the most playful of the girls, she is also one of the most sensitive. She is easily startled by sudden movements, loud noises, and changes in her environment. For that reason, Blanche will require a calm, quiet home where she can continue building confidence at her own pace. Something as simple as the movements associated with a person talking with their hands, can be panic inducing for Blanche. New people, and even having multiple people around her at the same time makes Blanche very nervous. Blanche is not a good candidate for a home with young children. We strongly believe she would do best in an adult-only home. In the right situation, a home with calm, respectful teenagers may be considered, but her ideal environment will be one that is predictable, quiet, and low-stress.Although Blanche enjoys toys, she is very afraid of toys being thrown—even gently—and is continuing to learn that play can be safe and predictable. She is also making nice progress with leash training, though she occasionally decides that chewing on the leash sounds much more fun than actually walking with it.One thing we are confident about is that Blanche must have another dog in her future home. She is very nervous when separated from other dogs, and thrives with canine companionship and gains tremendous confidence from having a confident, playful dog nearby. She watches other dogs closely, learns from them, and often looks to them for reassurance when faced with something unfamiliar. A confident resident dog will be essential in helping Blanche continue her journey. While Blanche still needs time and patience to fully trust people, once she does, she absolutely melts for affection. Her primary caregiver spent nearly a week visiting with her multiple times a day before Blanche felt comfortable enough to allow petting for the first time. Since then, she has made tremendous progress and now happily seeks out attention from familiar faces. And once you've earned her trust, Blanche's favorite thing in the world may just be a really good chest scratch.Because Blanche is high energy, loves to run, and enjoys exploring her surroundings, she would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard where she can safely enjoy open space and continue building confidence.Blanche is also very nervous when being placed into a kennel or boarding environment. Because of this, we would strongly encourage her future adopters to avoid traditional boarding situations whenever possible. If Blanche ever needs care while away from her family, she would likely do best with in-home pet sitting or another arrangement that allows her to remain in an environment where she feels safe and comfortable. At this time, we do not yet have an anticipated go-home date for Blanche as we continue learning more about her needs and helping her adjust to life outside of the mill. However, we hope to soon begin the process of meet-and-treat appointments with prospective adopters as we search for the right fit for her unique personality and needs. Blanche will likely require several visits before she is ready to go home. For more information on the adoption process, visit hsbcpets.com/beagles.She is a really fun dog with a huge personality, a tremendous capacity for growth, and a lifetime of love still waiting to be discovered. 💛 If you are interested in learning more or would like to set up a Meet & Treat appointment, please fill out an adoption application on our website: www.hsbcpets.com/adopt

Story
He’s got the kind of rugged good looks that belong in a flannel jacket. Sturdy, weathered, and undeniably handsome. 🪵🐾This guy has a grounded, outdoorsy charm and a softer side that comes out the second you start giving scritches. Lean in to pet him, and he’ll lean right back, happily soaking in the attention. There’s something wholesome and familiar about him, like muddy boots by the door and early morning coffee on the porch. Strong, sweet, and easy to root for, he’s ready to find his people and settle into his next chapter. Suki has the kind of striking looks that make people stop mid-sentence. With her flashy black-and-white markings, perfectly speckled ticking, and tall, athletic build, she has a bold kind of beauty that’s impossible to ignore. 🖤🤍She’s affectionate, engaging, and at that exciting stage of life where her personality is still unfolding more every day. Suki arrived recently, so we’re still getting to know her, but she’s already showing us a sweet side beneath all that striking presence. Her name means “beloved,” and honestly? It fits. 💙🐾 If you are interested in learning more or would like to set up a Meet & Treat appointment, please fill out an adoption application on our website: www.hsbcpets.com/adopt
