Story
Hey there! I’m new to Rescue Gang.I just arrived and I'm still getting settled in. The team is taking time to help me feel safe and learn all about my unique quirks and personality.Since Rescue Gang is a foster-based rescue, most of us live in private homes. That means you’ll need an approved application to chat with my foster and learn more about me.If you’re interested, email adopt@rescuegang.org to apply to ask questions. I can’t wait to meet my future family!

History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue Effort was a great success in welcoming over 180+ animals to rescue from rural areas in North Dakota before the cold set in. These animals are all so deserving and thankful to get a second chance in finding a forever home of their own! A Note from the Foster: Say hello to Nelson. He is a 2 year old boxer mix and burning hunk of love just looking for his family. He has an adorable boxer underbite and tends to get his pretty white teeth caught on his lips. He is very sweet, pretty goofy and easy going. Unless you bend over to tie your shoe. Then you’re at his level and he will give you all the love he has to give! He is house broken and we’re working on kennel training. He will go in with a treat and is very quiet and patient while in it. He just may not voluntarily go in though. He has been fine left home outside the kennel, no accidents and once I learned not to leave ANY food on the counter - he hasn’t gotten into any trouble. He has marked a couple times but stopped when corrected and is due to be neutered soon. He has shown some fear growling when approached by strangers while outdoors walking. We believe this is residual behavior from his past experiences and we are working on teaching him that he doesn’t need to be afraid. He rides fine in the car but will wander around if not harnessed. He doesn’t like to get IN the car and requires some coaxing but we are also working on that. After slow introductions and getting to know and trust each other, he has gotten on well with my resident dog. He is medium energy - has spurts of energy and zoomies, but settles quickly and either naps or chews on his bones. He is just learning about toys and will gently take them from my resident dog and has recently started chasing them on his own. He would do fine as an only dog and is not super interested in playing with my dog – he definitely prefers people. He likes to jump up on the bed at night and get some pets and then jumps back down and sleeps in his dog bed all night until I get up. He is a very quiet and patient boy. When I am home and initially gated him separately from my resident dog, he would just wait nicely until I let him back out, not a sound. I have only heard him bark a couple times. He is a smart boy and knows sit very well. We have been working on stay, down, leave it and look and he is a quick learner. Not sure about cats. I have a cat who has chosen to keep her distance. He is very interested and did chase her once so vigilance would be required. He would do great with older children but he doesn’t necessarily understand how strong he is and could easily knock younger children down. And as he is very food motivated, would probably steal any food they have as they would be at his level. He does take treats very gently. Can you welcome this sweet guy into your family?

Story
Pugsley is an 11 month old, handsome boy who needs some confidence! He feels most comfortable with his 2 brothers around, but would suffice with most any other dog. He is terrified of everything, and takes some patience. He is learning some basics, such as sit, and eye contact when calling his name, and after 2 training sessions with no distractions, he has them down and gets a blue ribbon! He also has 'down' pat after just one session! We are working on 'Shake' next! He seems scared of cats, but supervision during meet and greets should be required! Pugsley along with his 2 other brothers, were surrendered due an accidental litter, and the neighbors were complaining about all the dogs. They haven't had much for socializing it seems, so someone who has patience and can maintain a consistent schedule would be wonderful. He needs help being molded into the loyal, sweet young man he is, so he can grow up strong and confident. He sure is wicked smart though! Once he has bonded to you, he won’t leave your side! It took 3 times of getting him away from his brothers to bond with me (primarily his person) Together we are working on his confidence, still, and training. He loves his people once he learns he can trust you. He need someone who is his 'calm in the chaos' to show him the way, and that the world is not always as scary as it seems.  If you would like to meet me, please visit our website and complete the pre-adoption application.  Once it has been processed then we can make a date to get together! All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested (if over 2 years old), vaccinated, dewormed, flea and tick treated, microchipped and more before adoption. Our adoption policies include: Application, Vet Reference, Landlord approval & Criminal Background Check. We do not do same day adoptions. We request that you call for an appointment after your application has been approved to come and visit the dog of your choice. If you have a dog currently, you should bring him/her along to meet the new dog so we can see how everyone interacts.  Please visit our website for additional information.
