Story
Meet Mickey! He is a 3yr old neutered male Great Pyrenees/Kangal Shepherd dog that weighs 68lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/27 as a stray. When first arriving at the shelter, he was unsure of why he was there, and needed time to decompress. Staff and volunteers continued to help him adjust and he is doing much better now. He walks beautifully on a leash, did his business in the shelter yard and spent a significant amount of time with his nose to ground, sniffing out all the glorious smells! He is lively and active, and yet a well-mannered gentle boy. He is sociable, friendly and sweet natured and perfectly good with being loved on and petted. He does seem to have herding tendencies which is part of the breed. He knows the sit and paw commands (will give both paws!). He has a soft silky, beautiful coat, and is waiting for his own loving family to come meet him.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Phoebe!  She is a sweet, submissive, dog-friendly, freckled badger-faced, female Great Pyrenees rescued from a local shelter. Phoebe is almost 4 yrs old and weighs 80 pounds.  Phoebe is a little shy when new people approach her, but she will walk right up to you on her own for pets and loving. Phoebe is good with dogs. She enjoys playing with larger dogs and leaves little dogs alone.  She is house trained and is good on a leash, but has a tendency to pull.  She rides well in a car and loves to look out the window.   Phoebe is very afraid of loud noises like thunder and fireworks, so she needs a little nook to hide in when she feels compelled. She is also not a fan of grooming. However she does love keeping squirrels and birds out of her yard. Phoebe is a very loving girl just waiting for her forever home. Currently she is in a foster home North of Dallas, Texas. Any out of state adopters are responsible for arranging their own transportation. Phoebe is spayed and up to date on vaccines. Her adoption fee is $250. Become an approved adopter with SPIN Rescue and we can put you in touch with her foster to arrange a meet. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Barry! He is a gentle, goofy, laidback, 1yr old, 90lb male Great Pyrenees mix. Barry has a lot more of a white Lab build and coat, but still total Pyrenees couch potato energy, even as a puppy! His foster family affectionately calls him 'Butter Bear' because he is so sweet and squishy. He is sweet with people. He can be a little bashful, but will give you gentle kisses and snuggles. He did great at our recent adoption event meeting lots of little kids and adults, he didn't jump up on anyone and ended up laying down calmly.  Barry is great with dogs. He loves to play and roughhouse with the large dogs in his foster home. He hasn't been tested with cats or small dogs, but his foster family thinks he would do well with them. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Barry is very go with the flow. He is house trained. He walks beautifully on the leash, keeping a perfect strolling pace! He gets a little nervous during car rides and will drool a lot.  He has been with his foster family since he was a young puppy found on the streets, so he will need his forever family to be patient with him while he settles in. Barry is currently in a foster home in DFW area, Texas. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging their own transportation - most make the drive themselves. Barry is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. His adoption fee is $250.  Apply to meet and adopt Barry at www.spinrescue.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 24, 2025, 6:54 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.  Adopt Ozzy! He's an incredibly sweet, playful, happy male Great Pyrenees. He is 1.5 yrs old and around 70lbs, he has gained ten pounds of love since joining SPIN rescue.  Ozzy does well with dogs, cats, and children. He is bouncy, playful, enjoys toys, and loves the pool! He equally loves cuddling on the couch and will sleep in bed with you if you let him. He would love a playful dog companion in his home and he is unbothered with other dogs being the alpha. He does like to jump when excited, so may do best in a home without small children or elderly folks as he may accidentally knock them over.  He does well on a leash and enjoys car rides, although watch out as he may try to join you in the front. He is house trained and crate trained, though he has no need for one.  Oz is back up for adoption after a little break. He was taken 'off the market' last September when we noticed some signs of what we initially thought was a simple UTI. It turned into quite the journey with lots of treatments and tests to get to the bottom of his urinary issues. By December, we finally found the right medications to help him out. They suspect his issues might stem from damage caused by distemper during his puppy days, which is why his teeth are missing some enamel. The good news? Oz is now living like a champ on four medications that he'll likely need for life, but he takes them like a pro and gets excited when it's time for pill pockets. This extra time has really helped Oz with anxiety, too! His life before joining SPIN Rescue seems to have been a cruel one. He had extensive matting, fleas, and flea scabbing. He was so scared of things indoors, such as the television, stick-like objects, and crates. But now, Oz has transformed into a relaxed, cool, couch potato who loves being part of everyday life. Movie nights are a breeze and he happily accepts most stick-shaped chews. Every evening, he dashes to his crate for a cozy night's sleep.  Ozzy is a dream and will be a wonderful happy addition to any family! He is currently in a foster home in DFW, Texas. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging transport. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heart worm negative. His adoption fee is $250.  Apply to meet and adopt Ozzy at www.spinrescue.org Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 30, 2026, 6:25 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Adopt Allison! Her foster family calls her Allie. Allie’s birthday is somewhere between May and November 2023. She weighs about 60 pounds, but she could add few more pounds. She loves to go for walks and snuggling up on her couch, but most of all she loves to play with all her dog friends. She loves people, even strangers, and goes right up to everyone to introduce her playful self.  Allie has a condition known as an ocular dermoid, meaning there is some extra hair that grows out of one of her eyes. It does not bother her and has been examined by vets, and the biggest risk was that she may lose some vision over time. However her other eye is perfectly health and normal, so even if it does cause some vision loss she can still live a happy and healthy life. Allie had a rough time when she was first brought to SPIN Rescue. She developed a very bad case of kennel cough, eventually had to be hospitalized and kept on oxygen during her recovery. It was touch and go for a while but she eventually got the all clear to come back home and soon bounced back to her normal self of playing with everyone as much as she could. She is house trained and very good about waiting until she can go outside. She is crate trained although will become restless over extended periods of time. She has been on car rides and does well. She barks occasionally at things that she does not recognize, like the trash truck. She walks on a leash well, although she has been known to pull when she sees a dog in the distance or a distraction of note. She really wants to say hi to all the new dogs and people. Allie has a moderate to high amount of energy, so she would do best in a home with other playful dogs or frequent walks/trips to the dog park. She currently lives in a foster home with many dogs and loves it. If you are interested and have room for two, she would love to go with her foster brother Aspen, who is also up for adoption. She might be too energetic and bouncy, for young kids and elderly. Sweet, happy Allie is currently in a foster home in DFW, Texas. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging transport. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines. Apply to meet and adopt her at www.spinrescue.org      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 2, 2026, 8:26 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.  Meet Merlin! He is a 4.5 years old, 95lbs, male Great Pyrenees. Merlin is the definition of a gentle giant with a sensitive soul.  True to his Great Pyrenees nature, he's a laid-back companion who spends most of his day napping and observing his kingdom. But don't let that fool you, when the mood strikes, Merlin comes alive with bursts of playful energy! He loves romping around with the other large dog in his foster home, playing with squeaky toys, and his favorite, destroying boxes.  Merlin is a sweetheart who adores hanging out with kids and will gladly accept pets and attention. He takes a little time to warm up to new people, but quickly becomes friends if you bring him some cheese. He is a gentleman and doesn't jump up on people or the couch, even when invited up. He is also not a fan of stairs.  He plays beautifully with other big dogs and must have another large dog in his forever home as he gets anxious when left alone. When he first arrived at his foster home, there were two scuffles over dropped kibble, but with separate feeding areas and no bones in the house, there has been zero issues since.  Merlin is a smart cookie who knows sit, stay, lay down, leave it, and shake (though he'll give you a look that says 'really?' when you ask for that last one). He has also learned to open latch doors. Whether he actually performs these commands depends entirely on his mood, he has that independent Pyr streak.  He also knows "wait" for crossing streets and has decent leash manners, though he will pull if something scares him. High traffic areas stress him out, but he loves peaceful trails and wading through water. Merlin can be sensitive and need extra reassurance when it comes to thunder, vacuums, garbage trucks, and skateboards. He can also be vocal and not shy about sharing his opinions.  Merlin is a loyal, loving companion who has been through a lot but has so much love left to give. He is house trained, great in the car, wonderful with respectful kids, and once he warms up to you (don't forget to bring the cheese!), you'll have a gentle giant who just wants to be part of your pack.  If you have room in your home and heart for a sensitive soul who needs a confidence dog sibling, Merlin may just be your perfect match. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, Texas. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging transport. Adoption fees are $300 for dogs under 1yr old, $250 for dogs 1-7 years old, $200 for dogs over 7 years old. All SPIN dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, and on heart worm prevention.
