Story
Turtle was a lost dog who found me at work. He stayed with us for a few weeks before he went back to his previous home, and then showed up back at our door a few days later and they said we should keep him. We were not necessarily prepared for a dog to join our family but we have been doing our best. However, we are realizing he needs more attention and consistency than we can give. Turtle is a Jindo breed dog. He is a young adult, our guess is 3 or 4 years old. He loves to sniff and explore trails and natural areas, but is NOT trained to be an off-leash dog. As a dog who has spent time on the street, he can be anxious. He does not like to walk on busy streets and is frightened by fireworks etc but does okay with music instruments at our house. He is very gentle in almost every situation, but there have been several times he has been stepped on while sleeping and has lashed out and nipped people. We have a kid, so because of this we need to find a new, peaceful home for him.

Story
Meet Obok Gentle • Dog-loving • Easygoing Name: Obok Age: 2 years Sex: Spayed Female Breed: Jindo Mix Color: Ivory Weight: 15 kg Height: 48 cm (shoulder height)   Rescue Story Obok was a stray dog cared for and rescued by local residents in the community. She entered our center in January 2025 and later moved to a foster home in October. She has now been living in foster care for about 3 months, where she has been steadily settling into home life.   Human Social Skills Obok can be a little shy at first, but she warms up quickly—especially with treats. While she generally prefers dogs over people, she will approach unfamiliar people confidently if they have snacks. She may initially avoid touch from strangers, but once she feels safe, she accepts affection well and shows no resistance.   She is gentle and cooperative, making handling such as bathing easy. Obok can be comfortably lifted by placing an arm under her belly, and she does well with children under 13.   Dog Social Skills Obok is very dog-friendly. She happily greets both familiar and unfamiliar dogs and enjoys playtime with dogs of all sizes—large, medium, or small. She especially loves male dogs and becomes noticeably more playful and affectionate around them.   She appears happiest when spending time with other dogs and tends to rely on them for comfort. Obok does best in a home with another dog, as she adapts more easily and feels more secure with canine companionship. She has no issues even with high-energy or playful dogs.   Cats Obok has been living with a cat for the past 3 months and is doing well.   Energy Level She has a moderate energy level. Obok enjoys outdoor activities, but once playtime is over, she settles down easily and rests quietly. When tired, she goes to her own bed and falls asleep right away.   Walks Obok walks nicely on leash without pulling and follows her handler well. She is still nervous in busy urban areas or loud environments and may walk close to walls for reassurance.   Other Behaviors • No resource guarding with people or dogs • No separation anxiety; comfortable being alone • Calm and well-behaved in a crate • Mild motion sickness • 100% outdoor potty trained   Obok is a quiet, calm, gentle, and sweet girl. She may be shy, but she is truly an easy dog to live with—soft-natured, well-mannered, and kind. Apply to adopt or foster: https://adoptmekr.org  Please also visit our Facebook or Instagram. Story
Meet Shori Age: 1 year Sex: Neutered male Breed: Jindo mix Color: Black / White Weight: 13.7 kg Height: 42 cm (shoulder height)   Rescue Story Shori arrived at a municipal shelter as a young puppy along with his littermates. While all of his siblings were adopted, Shori was left behind and spent nearly a full year growing up in the shelter. In late December, he was finally rescued and transferred to the AKR Center—where he’s now learning what love, play, and freedom feel like.   ‍ People Socialization Shori likes people, but when meeting strangers, he tends to bark first—his way of saying “Who are you?” Once treats are involved, he warms up quickly and allows gentle touching. At first, being picked up made him uneasy, so slow and careful handling was needed. As he gets comfortable, though, he’s totally fine being scooped up (even enthusiastically—though he may still wiggle sometimes!). Once he considers you his person, Shori becomes very affectionate, follows you around, and happily shows his belly.   Dog Socialization Shori is very social He approaches both familiar and unfamiliar dogs with enthusiasm, inviting them to play. If he thinks it’ll be fun, he can be persistent about it. He generally does well with most dogs, especially those similar in size or larger. He can play with smaller, high-energy dogs too, but more timid dogs may find him a bit overwhelming. When play gets too intense for him, he’ll vocalize briefly and retreat—he’s not aggressive and communicates clearly.   Cats No direct experience with cats yet, but cat testing is possible.   Energy Level Shori is an active, playful young dog. After spending nearly a year in a shelter, he’s making up for lost time and loves playing nonstop with other dogs at the center. A home with another playful dog would be a great match for him.   Walking & Leash Skills He walks nicely on leash without pulling and does well in quiet areas. Busy roads and heavy traffic still make him nervous, so he’s currently practicing and building confidence.   Other Notes • No food guarding toward people • Has a strong appetite and sometimes tries to steal food from other dogs—meals may be fed separately to avoid scuffles • No separation anxiety • Dislikes being confined; vocalizes when placed in a crate • Nervous about getting into cars and needs to be carried in • May poop shortly after meals and sometimes overnight • Currently uses both indoor pee pads and outdoor potty   Shori is a bright, affectionate young dog who just needs a bit of patience, structure, and understanding as he continues adjusting to life outside the shelter. With the right home, he’ll thrive into a loyal, playful companion. Apply to adopt or foster: https://adoptmekr.org  Please also visit our Facebook and Instagram. Story
Meet Iruri   • Name: Iruri • Age: 2 years • Sex: Spayed Female • Breed: Jindo Mix • Weight: 13.5 kg (30 lbs) • Height: 48 cm (shoulder) Rescue Story Iruri was rescued from a dog meat slaughterhouse in September 2024. Despite her difficult beginning, she has shown a gentle heart and a strong desire to connect with people.   Personality & Human Socialization Iruri may look confident at first, but she is naturally sensitive and a little timid, especially in new environments. Once she feels safe, her affectionate side shines—she truly loves people and craves attention and reassurance.   She enjoys gentle interaction from adults and children under 13, is comfortable being picked up (arms under the belly), and when relaxed and happy, she may even show her belly to people she has just met.   Dog Socialization Iruri previously experienced some tension with other dogs in a crowded foster setting, likely due to insecurity and her strong need for affection. Since then, she has received additional training focused on manners and appropriate dog-to-dog interactions.   She will greet unfamiliar dogs politely but usually does not engage in prolonged play. She may briefly attempt to play when excited, then quickly lose interest. She does best with calm, well-mannered dogs who read social cues well. Very high-energy dogs can be overwhelming for her.   Careful introductions are recommended with unfamiliar dogs, as she may respond if provoked. On walks, she generally shows little interest in passing dogs.   Energy Level Iruri has a moderate energy level. She enjoys walks and outdoor time, but once her activity needs are met, she settles easily and relaxes quietly at home.   ‍ Walks & Leash Manners Iruri becomes excited when doing things with her person and tends to walk at a quick pace, sometimes pulling on leash. Overall, she follows her handler well.   She can be sensitive to unfamiliar sights or sudden stimuli. For example, she once barked defensively at an elderly person using a cane and hid behind her handler. She has been working on desensitization using positive reinforcement and food rewards.   Other Behaviors • Does not guard food from people • May growl if another dog approaches while she is eating • Can take treats calmly alongside other dogs • Afraid of getting into cars and needs to be carried in • Experiences mild motion sickness • Potty routine: usually eliminates right after meals during yard time or walks; otherwise uses pee pads indoors   Iruri is a gentle, people-loving Jindo mix who will thrive in a calm, patient home where she can feel secure and truly loved. With consistency and kindness, she will form a deep bond with her forever family.   If you feel Iruri might be the right match for you, please reach out—Iruri is ready for a patient, loving home where she can finally feel safe and chosen  Apply to adopt or foster: https://adoptmekr.org  Please also visit our Facebook and Instagram. Not good with dogs,
Story
Hi… my name is Raon. I’m a 5-year-old Jindo mix boy, about 15kg. I have short legs, a chubby body, and a funny little waddle when I walk. People often smile just watching me move. But before you met me here, I spent a very, very long time alone. I lived in a shelter for years. So long that I almost didn’t make it out. I was rescued just before euthanasia. For all that time, nobody chose me. But somehow… I never stopped loving people. When I meet someone for the first time, I don’t hesitate. I walk right up, wagging my tail, asking for pets like I’ve known you forever. As if I’m saying, “I’m here.” “I can be loved too.” Because I stayed in the shelter for so long, I never really learned how to be around other dogs. I don’t like sharing attention, and maybe… it’s because I’ve waited my whole life for love that was never just mine. That’s why I hope to be the only dog in your home. Just once in my life, I want to know what it feels like to have love all to myself. With people, I am incredibly gentle, affectionate, and soft-hearted. Honestly, living in a real home might be something completely new for me. I may be five years old, but in my heart, I’m still a little puppy. Everything in the world feels new and exciting. If I come home with you, I will need to learn many things from the beginning — house manners, potty training, how to live inside a home. So I’m looking for someone patient. Someone who will go slowly with me. Someone who will say, “It’s okay,” and stay by my side while I learn. Please, just take one look at me. If I find my family, I promise I will return the love I never received — many times over. I truly believe I can be the most loyal, loving companion for the rest of my life. I’ve been waiting for you for a very long time.

Story
Meet Yoda - Currently in Victoria, BC!!!! *** Foster or Adopter needed   Name: Yoda Breed: Jindo Mix Age: 3 years Gender: Neutered Male Weight: 15 kg   Yoda is a loyal and devoted dog who forms a very strong bond with his owner. He is affectionate, enjoys being petted, and thrives in a calm, structured environment with people he trusts.   However, Yoda is territorial and protective of his home. He has a history of biting incidents involving visitors and children inside the house, especially when there are sudden movements or unfamiliar people entering his space. Because of this, Yoda cannot live in a home with children and is only suitable for a single adult or couple household with no kids and limited visitors.   Yoda does well on walks and is: • Leash trained • Crate trained • House trained   He has a medium to high energy level and would benefit from regular exercise and a predictable routine. He is generally neutral toward other dogs and has not shown possessiveness with food or toys. His prey drive exists but is manageable.   Yoda is healthy, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered.   We are looking for an experienced and confident foster or adopter who understands reactive or protective dogs and can provide a calm, stable, and structured environment.   Important notes for potential fosters/adopters: • No children • No frequent visitors • Experienced, confident handler required • Calm, quiet household only • Secure home (flight risk)   Yoda is not a dog for everyone, but in the right environment with the right people, he has the potential to be an incredibly loyal and loving companion.   We are committed to finding Yoda a safe, appropriate, and permanent home where both he and his future family can succeed.
