Sandy and his brother Don were found in the hills as strays at about 3 months of age. A man took them in and raised them until they were about 8 months old when circumstances forced him to give them up. They came to the Sanctuary very wary and timid. Everything is new to them. But they have quickly warmed up to staff, and are learning to walk on a leash. Sandy is extremely affectionate once he is comfortable with you. A big lap dog! Both boys are very food motivated, but eat together....no food or resource guarding. Sandy readily gives up his bowl or whatever his brother wants from him. He is a gentle, loving guy. Sandy will make a great and loyal companion but will need a calm, patient human to show him the world beyond the deep woods in the hills. The staff loves both of these boys. This beautiful nugget of a dog is smart, affectionate, and great with teenagers (16 & up). Young, energetic, and people-oriented, she just wants to play the day away with her people in a yard or go walking on trails. Melody needs a firm guardian and correction for the jumping and nipping she does - small little grabs at clothes and occasionally that tiny little bit of a pinch on skin - she can be an exuberant jumping bean! We have worked with her but it needs to continue - trying to crop her wings and keep her grounded is a fete! Melody is not a dog park dog, she is an alpha dog, and a super physical player. She is best suited to being the only dog in a home and no cats or young children. She is happy to run and play in a yard; she loves treats and may do scent work - hide and seek.... She is best with stay at home folks with a big yard and as a running companion! Meet Ginger, a 3-year-old, 50 lb retriever/hound mix with a curious mind and a heart full of love. Ginger is affectionate and playful when she’s not busy checking out her surroundings. She’s known for her “sneak-attack kisses” and loves nothing more than snuggling on the couch after a good walk. She’s smart and food-motivated, already knows sit, shake, and come, and is learning place and down. Ginger is comfortable in a crate, sleeps soundly through the night, and often chooses her crate as a comfy hangout spot. With her active energy, she thrives on walks and adventures, but also has a softer, cuddly side once she’s settled. Ginger would do best in an active home with someone who can keep her busy, continue her training, and give her plenty of enrichment. She can be excitable and pulls on leash when overstimulated, so a patient owner committed to helping her practice good manners will set her up for success. Note: Special Needs Dog due to Behavior/Shyness. This dog is bonded and must be adopted with Pepe. Are you looking for a gorgeous dog? What about a very shy dog? If you answered yes to both of these questions, Chee Yoo could be the perfect dog for you. Chee Yoo is a beautiful, 5 yo medium/large female dog that came to Jelly's Place from South Korea in July 2021. Why has such a wonderful dog not been adopted yet? Read further to find out. Chee Yoo is very timid and nervous around people. She LOVES other dogs, and has become best friends with another Jelly's dog named Pepe. Pepe has a very similar personality to Chee Yoo and the two of them are like 2 peas in a pod. Chee Yoo can guard her food which is not surprising given where she came from. So, care needs to be taken with another dog when food, especially high value foods, are around. During her time at Jelly's Place, Chee Yoo has gone from hiding in the corner to taking daily walks on a leash. She is becoming more comfortable and confident, but still has a long way to go. She has learned to trust her primary caregiver, but is still not comfortable interacting with other people. Chee Yoo would do best in a calm, quiet home with dog experience and older or no children. Chee Yoo is NOT a dog for first time adopters. She needs adopters who are willing to be patient and to give her the time and space she needs to feel comfortable, confident and loved. Another dog in the home is essential. and we prefer to keep Chee Yoo with her buddy Pepe. If you are interested in adopting Chee Yoo, we recommend that you come and spend time with her on several occasions so that she becomes comfortable with you.
