I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog I:1Dusty is a 1.5-year-old male Labrador Retriever mix weighing 51.6 lbs. This friendly, energetic young pup loves exploring and spending time with people! He has a curious personality and enjoys sniffing around and taking in his surroundings. Dusty is treat-motivated and already shows off his good manners by sitting for treats. He can be a little enthusiastic and may jump up when excited, but he’s eager to learn and would do great with a family who can help him channel his energy through training, play, and enrichment. I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereTaffy is a 9-year-old, 44-pound lab mix with a sweet, easygoing personality. Her foster family reports she’s quiet and low-maintenance, and they adore having her around! She does well left home alone and has happily settled into a simple routine of walks, potty breaks, and plenty of downtime. Taffy can be a little independent when you first meet her, but treats and some gentle attention will quickly win her over. She knows “sit” and “shake,” takes treats politely, and once she’s comfortable, she’s happy to curl up next to you for some serious cuddle time. She’s also a great walking buddy who stays calm on leash. Around small animals, she’s unfazed and easily redirected, generally taking things in stride. She’s been mellow meeting other dogs, and could do well with an appropriately matched dog or as a solo dog with dog friends outside the home. If you’re looking for a senior companion with a youthful spirit, Taffy Bear may be your girl. Click here to learn how to adopt and submit your adoption questionnaire.August 13, 2026, 5:41 pm

Story
Lola came into my life during COVID and has been my sweet companion ever since. When I left for college, she stayed with my mom because my dorm didn’t allow pets. After break-ins in our neighborhood, she was raised to be an outdoor protector and takes that job seriously. Lola is affectionate, gentle, cuddly, and a little shy at first. She loves sunbathing, naps, running, vegetables, and is very well leash-trained. Walks around Lake Merritt are her favorite, and she’s happiest exploring by your side. Lola does have anxiety and self-soothes by chewing soft items. She’s also an escape artist, and when she gets out she barks, which can scare people, though she has never attacked anyone. I’m heartbroken, but I don’t have the resources to give her the training she needs. I’m hoping to find her a patient, loving home before I have to surrender her to the Oakland animal shelter. She truly deserves a second chance. ❤️

Story
Leni is a 5-year-old dog with so much love to give the right person. She is athletic, intelligent, and affectionate with the people she trusts. With her loved ones, Leni is incredibly sweet and loyal. She bonds deeply and shows her affection through closeness, playfulness, and quiet companionship. She loves being active and would thrive with someone who enjoys hikes, outdoor adventures, or other outlets for her energy and athleticism. Leni can also be wonderful with dogs she knows, especially in off-leash settings where she has space to move naturally and comfortably. That said, Leni is not a city dog. She has reactivity toward unfamiliar dogs and people. Her current owner loves her dearly and has invested a great deal of time, training, and care into helping her, but ultimately feels that Leni needs a more experienced home and a calmer environment than they are able to provide. She would likely do best in a quieter, less densely populated area.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Snoot-Yowie's name was picked out for her before she came to us. Our 4 year old created the name and when we went to the shelter my daughter passed up several other dogs in search for the one she had been dreaming about, Snoot-Yowie. Snoot is now roughly a year and a half old. She has always been an energetic pup. She loves to chase other dogs and be chased. She loves being cuddled by members of our family or those she knows well enough to trust. Her happy place is the dog park or an open space that she can chase a ball. Snoot is anxious and reactive, making a house with unfamiliar small children and lots of adventuring into the community encountering strangers a bit too much for her to handle. She would probably benefit from a home that has another dog or two that she can run with as part of their pack. Snoot is a sweet, loving protector who believes she is a lap dog.
