Canine Good Citizen Program Awhoooo! I'm Emilio! I'm a 2 year old, neutered male, 60 pound Chocolate Lab/Pit Bull mix and I'm excited to meet you! I'm a very affectionate boy but I can come on a bit strong. It's only because I'm so stoked to see you! I love giving hugs and will try to sit on you. I'm as cuddling and huggable as can be! I also love to run, sniff, jump -- and did I mention jumping?! I'm super great at it. My buddies here at PHS tell me there are times jumping is not appreciated, and I'm doing my best to learn manners. My ideal home will be with adults who are ready to devote lots of time and energy giving me love, training and exercise. I would do best in a home where I am the only pup for now. Since I'm not always sure who I can give high fives to, I would do best in a home with adults only. I can't wait to be your forever faithful adventure buddy! Emilio ID# A931862 I recently went on a field trip with my favorite volunteer. This is what they had to say about our day together:  Perfect!! Overall he was AMAZINGG. I had him in my house and in my backyard and he wasn’t all over the place or jumpy or anything he was really good, honestly just stayed near me and explored at the same time, whenever I’d call him he’d follow me. He was attached to this random cat toy that was in my backyard and he sunbathed for a chunk of the time. When I picked him up from the shelter, he was anxious for the first 30 mins in the car. He did much better on our car ride back to the shelter. He jumped in perfectly fine and was good in the car, not anxious at all.     The AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program provides a perfect framework for training a dog to become a polite member of society! I am on track to get CGC certificate! In order to pass I have been training hard to master the following 10 items: Politely greet strangers. Sitting politely for petting. Accepting of grooming. Good manners on walks. Walking through a crowd politely. Sit and down on cue and staying in place. Coming when called. Not reacting to another dog while on walks. Does not react to distractions. I'm the sweetest girl in the world; I love to say hi to the nice humans I meet and am a great player of the game of fetch (when I remember to bring the ball back). Meet Bessie. She is 28 pounds of energy! Her face looks like a Lab mix but she really is just a small lowrider and a whirlwind of energy. Mostly housebroken and does well in her crate and has fairly good leash skills. Bessie has a ton of energy and would love an active household. She is young and still needs to learn some boundaries as she likes to jump on people and other dogs. She has a few dogs she likes to play with, but would do best as an only dog and to stay away from dog parks as her spunky energy doesn’t always do well with others. She is a fun little gal and perfect for urban living and adventures. She could use some training, but she will make somebody the perfect buddy to go on treks and explore the world. She does calm down after exercise and once she does she’s a snuggle bug. Cal is the sweetest boy you could ever find. He's smart and motivated, loves working on his training, and he seems like he could be an expert in sporting competitions or nosework with the right training. His favorite game is fetch, and he loves all toys (especially the squeaky ones). Hell find his favorite, and ask you to play! He can be reactive to some dogs at first (though he's made a lot of progress with his leash manners!), but when he makes a friend, they're friends for life. He also gets a little nervous around unfamiliar people or situations. We've been working a lot on building his confidence and learning that the world isn't a scary place, but he likely needs an experienced adopter who can keep coaching him to be as polite in public as he is at home. Right now, he isn't quite ready for daycare, boarding, or a dog walker, so we need to find him a home where those aren't as vital in the near term. Hopefully your home can be the place where he can live his best life!
