Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $800 Meet the Xmas Puppies — Frosty, Stocking, Candy Cane & Sugarplum   At just 8 weeks old, this quartet of Lab mixes has all the charm, sweetness, and holiday cheer their name suggests. Rescued together and lovingly fostered, the Xmas Puppies started out as a shy group, unsure of their new world. But with gentle care, soft voices, and plenty of lap time, they blossomed into friendly, affectionate, playful pups who are now ready for families of their own.   These four adore one another. They sleep piled together in their crate, play without a hint of aggression, and have been wonderfully respectful meeting the resident cats. They’re good eaters, enthusiastic toy-chasers, and early risers— ready to be let out of their pen around 7:30am. With lots of outdoor time, they’ve been doing well with potty habits and are steadily learning the routine of the world. They settle into their crate easily during the day and curl up to sleep around 10pm.   The Xmas Puppies are naturally gentle and a bit sensitive; new people and new places make them pause at first, but they warm up beautifully. After a few days in foster, each pup came out of their shell, trotting over for pets, belly rubs, and snuggles. They are wonderfully sweet, non-nippy, and would make lovely companions for many types of families—especially those who enjoy puppies who are affectionate, people-oriented, and on the soft-hearted side.   Below is a little about each pup’s growing personality:   Frosty Frosty had the longest journey from shy to brave, but he made the biggest stride of them all. Once the most hesitant, he soon became the first to explore the yard and even figured out how to escape the puppy pen— a fact he was very proud of. He bonded especially deeply with the foster’s young son, often sitting happily in his lap for long stretches. Frosty is gentle, devoted, and blossoming into a confident little explorer who loves having “his person” nearby.   Stocking Stocking is the softest soul of the group— sweet, sensitive, and the most independent. He’s tends to approach people on his own terms, but once you pick him up, he melts into your neck for a hug before asking to be put down again. Stocking enjoys companionship but also appreciates being able to do his own thing. He’s thoughtful, observant, and sure to bond strongly with the people who let him open up at his own pace.   Candy Cane Candy Cane is a fluffy love muffin with the softest coat her foster has ever felt. She’s the smallest of the group but also one of the most confident, happily adventuring around the yard with her siblings and trotting over for cuddles. She enjoys being held— just not for too long, because there’s always something to explore. Her faint stripe-like markings on her ears make her name especially fitting. Candy Cane is also adorably clumsy: she and her sister Sugarplum love climbing in and out of the raised garden bed and often get stuck halfway. She’s curious, snuggly, people-loving, and irresistibly sweet.   Sugarplum Sugarplum is the social butterfly of the litter— the pup most likely to trot over for pets, attention, or a warm lap. She gently but persistently requests all the pats for herself and loves being carried around. In subtle ways, she’s the leader of the group, guiding her siblings’ adventures with confidence and charm. Sugarplum adores cozying up with Candy Cane, sometimes using her as a pillow for naps. She also has a funny habit of crawling under the sofa to escape the light and snooze in her own little hideaway. Friendly, affectionate, and full of personality, she is a joy to be around.   The Perfect Holiday Quartet   The Xmas Puppies are sweet-natured, well-mannered, and wonderfully people-oriented. They may start off shy in new places, but with a bit of patience and gentle encouragement, they warm beautifully and show their affectionate, playful selves. They’re ready to bring joy, companionship, and holiday magic to the families lucky enough to adopt them.   If you’re looking for a kindhearted, cuddly puppy who plays well with others, loves gentle attention, and thrives with a nurturing family, one (or more!) of the Xmas Puppies may be your perfect match.December 6, 2025, 11:30 am

Rescued together and now thriving in their foster home, they are growing into confident, gentle, affectionate companions who bring joy to every corner of the house.       Daily Life in Their Foster Home       The Xmas Pups begin their day around 7am, untangling themselves from the cozy puppy pile in their large shared crate. Once the door opens, they make a beeline for the backyard for a morning potty break and a burst of zoomies. Breakfast follows, along with a full hour of outdoor exploring: chasing each other across the yard, wrestling over toys, chewing sticks, and trying their best to keep up with the resident dog and cat.       By mid-morning, their adventurous spirits give way to snuggles and naps. They curl up with their foster family in the kitchen before drifting off to sleep. When the humans leave the house, the pups stay in a spacious kitchen-area setup with beds and toys. Their preferred spot, however, is all together under the kitchen island, tucked into their own little puppy fort.       Lunch is served around noon, followed by another round of playing and napping. Dinner arrives at 5pm, fueling a final stretch of romping before the family settles in for the evening. The pups happily pile onto the living room couch to watch TV and enjoy gentle cuddles. After one last trip outside, they head to bed at 10pm and sleep soundly through the night.       All four puppies are gentle, snuggly, good with other dogs and cats, able to climb stairs, and already crate trained. They play beautifully as a pack, though the “leader” tends to rotate daily.           Jingle Bells (M – blue collar)       Jingle Bells is the curious explorer of the group, often wandering off to investigate new sights and smells. He’s confident without being pushy and doesn’t let his sisters boss him around. Mealtime is a full-body experience for him— literally— because he enjoys his food so much that he tends to step right into the dish! He’s endearing, adventurous, and full of happy energy. And a foodie in the making, so training should be a breeze!       Holly (F – purple collar)       Holly is the easiest-going pup of the litter and the first to flop over for well-deserved belly rubs. With her soft, toasted-marshmallow coloring and natural charm, she even seems to enjoy posing for the camera. She is playful in the gentlest way, often chewing on her siblings during playtime (who take it in stride). Holly has an incredibly sweet, balanced temperament and loves any opportunity for affection.       Mistletoe (F – yellow collar)   Mistletoe has the most outgoing personality of the bunch and instantly gravitates toward people. She loves all humans and isn’t shy about requesting attention— she’ll raise a paw as if politely asking to be scooped up. During meal prep, she can often be found sitting on her foster mom’s feet like a tiny sous-chef. She is social, warm-hearted, and eager to bond.       Tinsel (F – pink collar)       Tinsel shares Jingle Bells’ adventurous streak and carries it with a confident, independent spirit. She explores the yard on her own and is usually the last puppy to come back inside after outdoor play. She has a natural sense of leadership without being bossy, and she approaches the world with curiosity and poise. Tinsel is brave, joyful, and ready for her next adventure.       The Xmas Pups are now ready for homes that will guide them through puppyhood with consistency, gentle structure, and plenty of affection. With their sweet natures, growing confidence, and love for both people and other animals, they are sure to bring warmth and cheer to any family lucky enough to call them their own.December 3, 2025, 8:33 pm

Story
Sammy is an amazing and resilient 3-year-old Golden Retriever. He is a very loving Golden to those who know and love him. Sammy is currently enrolled in an extended board-and-train program designed to help de-escalate reactivity with dogs, address home barriers, and manage interactions with strangers. He has really done well after 6 months, building confidence and reducing his reactivity to men and dogs. Sammy now has a pack of five doggie friends he plays with regularly. We have weaned him off the Reconcile, and his Golden personality is really beginning to shine through. Sammy's extensive training is really showing what Sammy's potential can be when loved and cared for daily. He will need an experienced owner who can provide consistent reinforcement and meet his needs. If you are interested, we can coordinate a call with his trainer to learn more. Sammy is being fostered in San Jose.

Story
Meet Elliot, an adventurous and playful pup looking for an active home where he can learn, play, and grow! Personality and TemperamentElliot is bold, curious, and full of personality. He’s always alert to what’s happening around him—especially if there’s a squirrel or bird nearby. He enjoys being near his people and is learning to relax more during downtime. Elliot loves praise, is very food-motivated, and responds well to consistent training. Elliot is crate-trained and settles well when left alone Exercise and Activity RequirementsElliot is an energetic, athletic dog who thrives on daily activity. He enjoys a 2-mile walk each morning, plenty of yard play, and short bursts of high-energy fun like wrestling and chasing the flirt pole. He also loves using his nose for scent games and tracking. Elliot does best with both physical and mental enrichment and would make a great companion for an active person or family who enjoys outdoor adventures. Other Dogs and AnimalsElliot has been making good progress with his social skills around other dogs. He’s generally neutral after the initial excitement and settles quickly once given space. In tighter situations, he may give a small warning to communicate his boundaries. Elliot could live with a well-matched, respectful dog, but due to his high prey drive, a home without small animals would be best. Training Elliot has been working on his basic cues like sit and down and even picked up a few tricks such as spin. He recently tried bikejoring and did great—showing how much he enjoys having a job and staying active. The Ideal Home for ElliotElliot would do best with an active adopter who enjoys keeping their dog physically and mentally engaged. He’d be a great fit for someone experienced with energetic breeds and committed to positive training. He’ll benefit from an adopter who can help him continue building confidence around other dogs. A home without small animals is best. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Elliot's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Meet Libby! Libby is a sweet, loving 4-year-old girl who’s ready to find her forever family. She has plenty of the wonderful traits people love in a German Shorthaired Pointer, along with her own unique personality that makes her extra special. Exercise & Activity Libby is an active dog who gets daily exercise and thrives when she’s outdoors. She currently enjoys a 3-mile walk through steep hills every day, plus a weekly free run on a 10-acre ranch where she can stretch her legs until she’s completely tuckered out. She’ll need an adopter who can give her consistent exercise and space to enjoy her GSP energy. Leash Manners On leash, Libby has made great progress. With a gentle lead, she walks nicely and doesn’t pull as much as she used to. She’s learning to manage her excitement around wildlife—she’s calmer with deer and turkeys now, though squirrels still get her attention! Personality & Temperament Libby greets everyone with a happy tail wag that moves her whole body. She’s relaxed and gentle with people of all ages, from babies to older adults. She doesn’t jump up or get rowdy, making her a wonderful companion for families or households with children. Other Dogs & Animals Libby takes some time to warm up to other dogs. At first, she can be defensive – once she feels safe, she settles down and generally ignores them. With patience and continued socialization, she’ll learn that not every dog is a threat. She has also improved around livestock—while goats used to get her barking and worked up, she now passes them with little reaction. Home Alone & Training Libby is calm and well-behaved when left alone. She goes to her bed and naps until her people come back. She’s crate-trained, housetrained, and continues to make steady progress with her manners. That said, Libby will benefit from ongoing training, especially with off-leash reliability and socialization around other dogs. She’s smart and eager to please, so with consistency, she’ll continue to grow into an even more well-rounded companion. The Ideal Home for Libby Libby will do best in an active home that can provide her with daily exercise and opportunities to explore. She’d love a family who enjoys hiking, walking, or spending time outdoors. A home where she’s the only dog—or with patient adopters committed to her continued dog socialization—would suit her best. In return, you’ll get a loving, gentle, and loyal companion who’s happiest by your side. If you’re ready for tail wags, outdoor adventures, and a devoted new friend, Libby may be the perfect match for you! Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Libby's been up to, check out her posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs.
