Story
Lab Mix Male, neutered 35 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) Levi was picked up as a stray in Stockton, CA. One of his front legs had an elbow fracture that wasn’t attended to. The tendons were seized up in the fracture, so he couldn’t move his other joint either. It's likely that he was hit by a car at some point. Obviously, he wasn’t well cared for before arriving at the shelter, but he was still the sweetest dog - loving everybody. Because of his bad leg, he needed a rescue group to take him in, so the shelter called us. Everyone’s fear was that there may be bone cancer involved. Our vet removed the leg and sent it to a pathologist and the good news is that there was no cancer. Once the leg was removed, he became a whole new dog - loving the freedom of not having to lug around that useless limb. Unfortunately, he has severe osteoarthritis in his hips. The surgeon thinks his previous injury damaged the blood supply to his hips. He needs to stay thin and active with low impact exercise. Luckily, he loves to get daily exercise! You wouldn’t guess that his hips are so bad watching him run around. He will be on lifelong arthritis treatment: anti-inflammatory drugs, Adequan injections and joint supplements. No surgery is recommended on his hips at this time, but that might change in the future. Levi loves going for walks and going jogging. He is a bit leash reactive when other dogs are pretty close, but when they are across the street, he doesn't react and has learned "look" to get a treat and focus on his foster mom. Levi lives with a large dog and does well with him. They hang out together when no one is at home. His foster brother is a senior who doesn't want to play, so Levi entertains himself a lot with chew toys. Fetch is Levi's favorite game in the backyard and he is good about bringing it back and dropping it for a piece of kibble. At home care is easy with Levi, as he easily allows ear cleaning, nail clipping, brushing, teeth brushing, and getting a bath. He loves to cuddle up next to people on the couch and in bed. He has met a lot of strangers of all ages while out for walks and at the adoption center and does very well with everyone. Bikes, skateboards, canes, hats, etc. don't bother him. Levi is potty trained using a dog door. There are still a couple puppy traits that Levi is working through. He is mouthy when he is in a playful mood. The mouthiness is gentle and is easily redirected to a chew toy. Sometimes during fetch, he tries to snatch the ball back off the ground before you've had a chance to pick it up. It seems like he wants to quickly gets his treat and then try to play keep away from his foster parents. Levi has shown some prey drive tendencies in the backyard, so he probably wouldn't do well in a home with cats. If you are looking for a super sweet, smart, resilient dog and are up for continuing his training and arthritis meds, Levi might be the dog for you. Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13. For more information about Levi, contact: nobodysperfektdogs@gmail.com

Story
Awhoooo! I'm Emilio! I'm a 2 year old, neutered male, 60 pound Chocolate Lab/Pit Bull mix and I'm excited to meet you! I'm a very affectionate boy but I can come on a bit strong. It's only because I'm so stoked to see you! I love giving hugs and will try to sit on you. I also love to run, sniff, jump -- and did I mention jumping?! I'm super great at it. My buddies here at PHS tell me there are times jumping is not appreciated, and I'm doing my best to learn manners. I will need extra help from my new family with ongoing training. My ideal home will be with adults who are ready to devote lots of time and energy giving me love, training and exercise. I would do best in a home where I am the only pup for now. Since I'm not always sure who I can give high fives too, I would do best in a home with adults only. I can't wait to be your forever faithful adventure buddy! Think you and Lucy might be a match made in heaven, but you want to do a trial run at home first? You can foster Lucy for one week and if things don't work out, you can always bring them back to us (but we hope that's not the case).Lucy, is not home yet but she may be swept home by you! Lucy is an energetic, go-getter sort of lady that is ready to adventure, see the world, meet new people and dogs. With her enthusiasm and zest for life - Lucy is really working on her self-care skills, taking a break, and learning to settle by herself. Afterall, we do love an independent lady! Sometimes playing too much and going too long on adventures can be just too much excitement so taking breaks and letting each person know how to take a break. Lucy is a bubbly lady with lots of love to give and smarts to match, so if you are ready for an adventure of a lifetime, please come on into the Adoption Center to learn more!
