Story
It was 5am. The call went out: Send the Police! 🚨 Adorned in protective gear, the police approached the house timidly - unsure what they'd find inside. The homeowner had called frantically. A monster may be lying in wait...As the door sprung open, a demon emerged: fluffy, 12lb, 8 year old Christopher. Street name: Christo-FURY.Look at him the wrong way, and he'll have something to say. Interrupt his nap and you'll never hear the end of it. While he may look like a perfectly cuddly lapdog, he is ANYTHING BUT. That 5am call to the police about a 12lb dog terrorizing her? That's true...and, that's how Christopher finds himself with us now. A wannabe police dog, this Maltese/Shih Tzu mix found himself on the outside looking in at the Police Dog Academy. HIs bark found insufficiently fearsome, and his tiny frame unfit for the riggers of police life. Now: all bark, no badge. Many things offend our little ChristoFURY. On the short list: men, children, strangers, neighbors, delivery people, repairmen, vets, groomers, sharing food, big or energetic dogs.Christopher definitely has some good qualities, too. He's quite a charmer with the ladies - often able to hide his devious side. Christopher gives plenty of warning if you learn his rules and listen to them. He's a good walker, non-shedding, and smart. Overall, Christopher is in great health other than a mild heart murmur which doesn't require medication. Beyond a patient one, we aren't sure what home will suit this little devil best. He may accept the presence of another chill dog, does not want kisses goodnight or to be woken up too early in the morning, and can be bribed with chicken and cheese. If you are still reading and thinking this sounds like a great dog to adopt, please make an appointment with a good therapist(KIDDING), and apply at RBARI.org/dogs so we can broker a meeting with ChristoFURY.If you think you can "fix" him, don't bother - those relationships never work out if you aren't ready to accept each other flaws and all, and he's done with trying to fit into society's convention of what a "pet" should be and looking to live life on his terms - with the rap sheet to prove it. Primary Color: White Age: 8yrs 5mths 0wks

Story
Pop Quiz ❓ 🤔 Your child “falls” on your dog. The dog is limping and not bearing weight on his back leg, now growling and snapping when touched or approached by the child and when anyone tries to touch his back end, and clearly freaked out and in a lot of pain. Do you A: Bring the dog to the vet immediately for pain medication and x-rays? B: Wait and let him limp around a few days. Then call an extremely full local county shelter with over 100 dogs to immediately surrender him since he’s suddenly become aggressive and the child is now scared to approach him, You probably got the answer wrong. It’s clearly B. A no-brainer of course 🤷‍♀️. Don’t feel bad, we would have answered wrong too 🤣 Well little Poochie was surrendered to us and shockingly we brought him right to the vet. He was even more terrified, an already unsocialized little guy now in severe pain having to be handled by strangers. His x-rays revealed a completely dislocated hip that requires surgery to repair and get him comfortable again. He’s just a baby, purchased from a pet store as a puppy as a “designer” Malshi (Maltese/Shih tzu), 14lbs and just over a year old. He’s very scared and distrustful right now but we are hoping once he is out of pain and gets his bearings in a new place he will learn to trust and be a sweet little guy once again, at least with those he trusts. He’s had his FHO surgery and is recovering nicely and starting to use his leg a little more every day. He’s warmed up to us and is a lovable spunky puppy with those he trusts, but needs time to warm up to strangers. Please consider a donation toward Poochie’s medical bills, a huge unexpected expense but turning this scared injured pup away was not an option for us, and we know we can rely on you, our followers, to help him heal ❤️‍🩹 Email njwoof@cs.com if you have a calm adult home with no “falling” kids and would like to open your home to him once he’s ready Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Little young senior Lulu got some disappointing medical news… the lump she had removed was cancerous 😞 This 8 year old Maltese/chihuahua had never been spayed before, resulting in a small mammary tumor. The good news is she’s spayed now, her chest x-rays showed no sign of any spread, and it was a low grade tumor hopefully caught early enough. But she will need to be monitored for recurrence or spread. She’s otherwise healthy and has been a very sweet little girl once she bonds, but can be distrustful of strangers and protect her person. All 8 pound personal bodyguard of her 🫡 She’s fine with other dogs and looking for an adult home where she will be loved unconditionally for the rest of her life. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Lulu in Northern NJ Meet Lulu! We were told this tiny 8 year old scruffy girl was “not friendly” and she was handed to us muzzled, but as soon as we walked her away from her owner she warmed right up to us and has been a sweetheart ever since! She may show more protective tendencies as she settles in a new home of course, so is looking for a lower key adult home that’s ok with a little feisty side. Once she loves you she loves you unconditionally, asks to be picked up and dances for attention all the time. She’s only 8lbs and said to be a Maltese/chihuahua mix, good with other small dogs and a cuddly loyal little lapdog once she bonds and feels safe. Please email njwoof@cs.com to meet Lulu in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.NAME: SnowglobeBREED: Maltese DOB: Jan 10, 2020 (5 years 10 months)Home Recommendation: Snowglobe will do best in a calm, patient home that understands she needs extra time to learn how to just be a dog. Everything about affection, attention, and daily life is still new to her, and she needs adopters who can move slowly, create a predictable routine, and let her build confidence at her own pace. A quieter household with gentle people who wont rush her will help her feel safe enough to open up. With steady reassurance and consistent love, shell gradually learn what comfort, companionship, and affection truly feel like and she will blossom when shes finally ready.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Snowglobe spent her entire life as a breeding dog in a puppy mill. When her 'breeders' decided they no longer had a use for her, they planned to discard her. Thankfully, WISE was able to step in and rescue her giving her a second chance to experience the love and warmth of a real home. Now shes ready to start that new chapter!Personality: Snowglobe is slowly starting to come out of her shell, and were beginning to see some wonderful signs of progress. She recently walked outside on her own, showing a little bit of confidence, and even let her foster pick her up and hold her without any fear. These small victories show how much trust shes building, and its clear shes trying her best to feel safe and connect with the people around her. KIDS: Yes, kids 10+DOGS: YesCATS: YesTraining: Snowglobe is still in the very early stages of settling in, so for now her routine is all about comfort and feeling safe. She spends most of her time relaxing in her bed inside her open crate, which is clearly her preferred safe space. She has been reliably using the wee-wee pads set up in her penned area, and she sleeps in her crate at night, though she feels most secure when someone is nearby. At this point, building trust and consistency is more important than formal training, and she is doing well with the gentle routine that helps her feel supported.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
