Story
It was 5am. The call went out: Send the Police! 🚨 Adorned in protective gear, the police approached the house timidly - unsure what they'd find inside. The homeowner had called frantically. A monster may be lying in wait...As the door sprung open, a demon emerged: fluffy, 12lb, 8 year old Christopher. Street name: Christo-FURY.Look at him the wrong way, and he'll have something to say. Interrupt his nap and you'll never hear the end of it. While he may look like a perfectly cuddly lapdog, he is ANYTHING BUT. That 5am call to the police about a 12lb dog terrorizing her? That's true...and, that's how Christopher finds himself with us now. A wannabe police dog, this Maltese/Shih Tzu mix found himself on the outside looking in at the Police Dog Academy. HIs bark found insufficiently fearsome, and his tiny frame unfit for the riggers of police life. Now: all bark, no badge. Many things offend our little ChristoFURY. On the short list: men, children, strangers, neighbors, delivery people, repairmen, vets, groomers, sharing food, big or energetic dogs.Christopher definitely has some good qualities, too. He's quite a charmer with the ladies - often able to hide his devious side. Christopher gives plenty of warning if you learn his rules and listen to them. He's a good walker, non-shedding, and smart. Overall, Christopher is in great health other than a mild heart murmur which doesn't require medication. Beyond a patient one, we aren't sure what home will suit this little devil best. He may accept the presence of another chill dog, does not want kisses goodnight or to be woken up too early in the morning, and can be bribed with chicken and cheese. If you are still reading and thinking this sounds like a great dog to adopt, please make an appointment with a good therapist(KIDDING), and apply at RBARI.org/dogs so we can broker a meeting with ChristoFURY.If you think you can "fix" him, don't bother - those relationships never work out if you aren't ready to accept each other flaws and all, and he's done with trying to fit into society's convention of what a "pet" should be and looking to live life on his terms - with the rap sheet to prove it. Story
Meet Haagen-Dazs! This handsome little boy is a 5.5 month old Maltese/Shih-Tzu mix! This super sweet boy has come from a tough beginning. Since being rescued from a puppy mill, he is extremely under socialized. He will need a loving family who is willing to work through socializing him. He does, however, love his doggy friends and his perfect home must have another dog who is confident! Due to his small size, we believe he would be best suited in a home with older children. He just got to NJ and is hanging out in foster care while he looks for his forever home! If you are interested in adopting please apply through our website www.southernpawsinc.org/adopt or send us an email at southernpawsrescue@gmail.com!

Story
Meet Trixie & Trigger! 🐾 Trixie (9 years old, 8 lbs) and Trigger (12 years old, 10 lbs) are a sweet senior duo looking for a soft place to land after their elderly owner could no longer care for them. These little companions are dog-friendly, love being held, and are happiest when they’re close to their people. Whether it’s snuggling on the couch, riding along on errands, or simply soaking up affection, Trixie and Trigger are ready to be your loyal sidekicks. Both are crate trained and have left the puppy shenanigans behind, making them easygoing companions who are ready to enjoy the simple pleasures of life: comfy beds, tasty treats, gentle walks, and plenty of cuddles. WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.NAME: JamBREED: Maltese DOB: Jul 11, 2025 (1 year)GENDER: maleHome Recommendation: Jam would thrive in a home that is ready for an active, playful puppy and can continue helping him learn and grow. He has done wonderfully living with his foster sibling and has enjoyed having a canine companion from day one. Like many puppies, he's been known to claim a few of his furry friend's favorite toys and blankets, but it has all been part of their playful relationship. Jam would likely enjoy a home with another friendly dog to play with, but he would also do well as the center of attention in a family committed to providing him with plenty of exercise, enrichment, and love.Personality: Jam is a happy, active puppy with the perfect mix of playful energy and laid-back charm. He loves tossing around his favorite toys, exploring the neighborhood on walks, and discovering all the exciting sights and smells along the way. After a fun play session, Jam is more than happy to curl up for one of his many daily naps and recharge. His fun-loving personality and sweet nature make him a wonderful companion for a family looking for an affectionate, adventurous pup.KIDS: YesDOGS: Yes CATS: YesTraining: Jam is making wonderful progress with his training! He walks very well on a leash and happily follows along behind his foster sibling, who has been a great role model. House training came naturally to him, likely because he loves copying what his foster sibling does. Jam needs a little help getting up and down the stairs.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Some large-scale breeding programs occasionally have dogs and puppies they are unable to place due to medical needs, birth defects, appearance differences, or simply because there is not enough demand. WISE partners with groups working to help provide these dogs with a second chance rather than an uncertain future. We are committed to rescuing and caring for dogs of all kinds — healthy, medically fragile, senior, or those with special needs — and giving them the love, safety, and opportunity they deserve.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

She will thrive in a calm, predictable home where she can move at her own pace and continue gaining confidence. A gentle family that understands her journey and is willing to celebrate the small victories will be rewarded with an incredibly sweet, affectionate companion. Once Sunrise feels secure, she loves being close to her people and her loving personality truly shines. The family who gives Sunrise that chance will have the privilege of watching her transform into the wonderful dog we know she can be.Personality: Sunrise is a quiet, gentle soul with the sweetest personality. While she may be a little shy at first, once she feels safe and begins to trust you, she blossoms into a loving lap dog who enjoys being close to her people. One of her favorite things is carrying her toys back to her bed—it's an adorable habit that is sure to make you smile! She loves relaxing in her cozy bed and has a calm, easygoing nature. Sunrise has done wonderfully with cats, taking the time to warm up to them before becoming comfortable sharing her space. She doesn't chase or bark at them and enjoys their company. Although she hasn't had much experience with other dogs yet, her gentle temperament suggests she would do well in a home with friendly, respectful dogs and cats.KIDS: YesDOGS: YesCATS: YesTraining: Sunrise has made wonderful progress since arriving in foster care. Her crate quickly became her safe space, and while she spent much of her first few days there, she has gained confidence and now enjoys relaxing in her bed around the house. She continues to be comfortable in her crate and settles in nicely when needed. Sunrise is still learning that the outdoors can be a safe and enjoyable place. She is currently fearful of being outside and is not yet comfortable walking on a leash, so her future family will need to continue building her confidence with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. Because she can become frightened and attempt to run, she must always be securely supervised outdoors, even in a fenced yard. Sunrise is also working on potty training. She currently uses pee pads very reliably and consistently goes in the same designated spot without accidents elsewhere in the house. With time, a predictable routine, and gentle encouragement, she has all the potential to continue making great progress.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Some large-scale breeding programs occasionally have dogs and puppies they are unable to place due to medical needs, birth defects, appearance differences, or simply because there is not enough demand. She is a complete snuggle bug who enjoys being close to her people and would love a family that has plenty of time for cuddles. She also enjoys exploring the outdoors at her own pace, especially when she can stop and sniff everything along the way. Whether she's curled up beside you on the couch or investigating new scents on a leisurely walk, Jelly will make a loving and loyal companion for a family looking for an affectionate best friend.Medical: Jelly has a heart murmur. So, testing and bloodwork are currently in process.Personality: Jelly is truly the definition of a perfect angel! She has the sweetest personality and a calm, gentle nature that makes her an absolute joy to be around. While she's curious and enjoys exploring her surroundings, she's happiest simply being close to her people. Jelly could spend hours curled up beside you on the couch, soaking up all the cuddles and companionship. She doesn't need a lot of activity to be happy—just a cozy spot next to her favorite person and plenty of love.KIDS: YesDOGS: Yes CATS: YesTraining: Jelly is making great progress with her training! She is doing wonderfully with potty training and is about 90% there, continuing to improve with a consistent routine. She sleeps comfortably in her crate all night and has shown that she can settle in well. Jelly is also a social girl who does great with animals and children of all ages. She is still building confidence with leash walking and can be a little unsure, but she is trying and will benefit from a patient family who can continue helping her feel comfortable exploring the world around her.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Some large-scale breeding programs occasionally have dogs and puppies they are unable to place due to medical needs, birth defects, appearance differences, or simply because there is not enough demand.
