Story
Nova was born on 01/10/2026 from an accidental litter. Her family reached out to Legacy Humane Society for assistance in finding her and her sister new homes. Their Mom has been spayed, and the pups are also spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and on heartworm prevention. Their adoption fee is $325. Nova knows how to sit and shake on command. She loves belly rubs, playing fetch and eating watermelon.  Puppies require someone with lots of time and patience to raise them to be the best dogs they can be. They will do well with dogs, cats and kids. Since puppies don't have all of their manners yet, they may be too much for toddlers and very young children. If you're interested in meeting them, please apply online and we'll be in touch: Adoption Application - Legacy Humane SocietyWe do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting from LHS, please complete an online application at http://legacyhumanesociety.org/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ and we will contact you asap about the status of your application. Story
Meet Maria! Maria is a beautiful 4-year-old Rottweiler with a remarkable story of resilience, strength, and second chances. Weighing approximately 80 pounds, Maria's journey hasn't always been easy. In March, she was found as a stray with serious injuries, likely after being struck by a vehicle. She was taken to a city shelter where she received surgery to repair a broken femur. Through it all, Maria remained calm, gentle, and incredibly brave. Today, she has fully recovered and is enjoying life in foster care while she patiently waits for the forever family she deserves. Maria is a well-mannered girl who is both house and crate trained. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night, walks beautifully on a leash, and takes treats with the gentlest touch. She is not a frequent barker but will alert you when someone arrives at the house. While Maria is affectionate and loving once she feels safe, she is naturally cautious and slow to warm up to new people. She will thrive with a patient family willing to give her time and space to build trust at her own pace. Once that bond is formed, Maria's loyal and devoted personality truly shines. Maria would do best in a calm home with children 16 years of age or older who can respect her boundaries and understand her need for gradual introductions. She can be happy as an only dog, but she would also enjoy a canine companion her size or larger. Maria has a bit of an alpha personality, so proper introductions and confident leadership are important. Because of her size and play style, she is not a good fit for homes with small dogs. A family that works from home or spends a lot of time around the house would be ideal, as Maria enjoys companionship and being included in daily life. She does have one amusing quirk—she's a bit of a counter surfer—so keeping snacks out of reach is highly recommended! Maria is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. Despite the challenges she has faced, she continues to show an incredible capacity for love and trust. If you're looking for a loyal companion and are willing to give a deserving dog the time she needs to settle in, Maria may be the perfect addition to your family. If you are interested in meeting Maria, please complete an adoption application through Legacy Humane Society. All of our dogs live in foster homes while they wait for their forever families, allowing us to learn more about their personalities and help find the best possible match. Maria has overcome so much and is ready for a family that will love her forever. Could that family be yours? Please apply online if you're interested in meeting her. Her adoption fee is $275. Adoption Application - Legacy Humane SocietyWe do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Story
Meet the always hungry Smokey but I call him Smoke Dawg. He is a 4-year-old 65 lb Rottweiler, with a tank-like body and a lovable demeanor. I got Smokey from a relative three weeks ago to give him a good life until I can rehome him. Smokey's life up until this point hasn't been the best. His first owners were abusive and the family member I got him from neglected his health. When I got him and took him to the vet, he was diagnosed with hook worms, whip worms, heart worms, and had an infected patch of skin on his back while also being tick and flea infested and hadn't been bathed in years. He also has weak back legs that buckle and the therapist believes he either has hip dysplasia or tore both ACLs at some point and never got to heal properly. Since getting him, he's been given all of his vaccinations, been microchipped, treated for his GI worms, started on his heartworm treatment, treated for his flea and ticks and been given preventative, given a steroid for his infected skin, and given an immunosuppressant for his constant scratching. He would often times scratch until he bled and not sleep. He has since improved drastically and is much more energetic and stronger. He's such a fighter. Smokey is a calm yet playful pup who loves to wrestle, go on walks, bark at random things passing by, and most of all, eat. Smokey is one to always beg for food and will eat just about anything in front of him. He/she gets along with dogs but cats are unknown and currently lives with Indy, my other dog. He doesn’t have much history with other animals aside from Indy and they get along well even if he eats all her snacks she tries to save for later. Smokey likes to cuddle up with his humans and play fight until he’s tired. Hint: playing with him gets him to go potty. An ideal home for Smokey would be one with a yard for him to run around in and toys to chew on. He’s a big chewer and loves a good bone or piece of rough clothing. Smokey, at his heart, is an outside dog best suited for a backyard to laze around in. He does well inside but can get restless and make a bit of a mess so beware. Smokey is crate trained but will bark until he tires and then sleep all day, leash trained but sometimes like to hunker down to finish sniffing, and house trained but will mark every now and then if left unsupervised, and knows Sit, Gimme Paw, and Catch. I’m currently teaching how to give his other paw and lay down. He is one smart pup! Smokey loves car rides and to let the wind blow through his jowls. He also loves just about any treat you give him. He is not picky unless it’s vegetables! He’s a machine. Oh, also, the cutest thing he does is walk in circles around you and make deep grunting noises out of excitement when you're home. This adorable pup is deserving of the perfect furever home. Could it be with you? Apply to adopt Smokey today! This pet is participating in the Dallas Pets Alive rehoming program. Story
Roxie was a rescue dog who had been with me for about 6 years. When it was just the two of us she was great, no problems, but since moving in to a full household with 2 young children and another dog, she has become very anxious and insecure. I am working 2 jobs now and don't have the time to spend with her. She was abused before I got her and still is very skittish. She gets along with females better than males as far as people. She's nipped at some men but had never bitten anyone. She leaves the babies alone. She really needs a calm, caring small home where she can have the attention that I can't give to her anymore. She is constantly hiding in the bathtub or under the bed or anywhere she can fit. She is afraid of everything. She loves to run and will bark at other dogs, but she isn't sure how to play with them. She's a sweet girl who needs a lot of attention and patience.
