This adorable little pup is Brainy Smurf, one of the Smurf puppies who arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 11/7. Weighing in at 12 pounds, Brainy’s possible mix—according to my Dog Scanner—includes Aussie Kelpie and Dutch Shepherd. As a young puppy, he hasn’t mastered walking on a leash yet, but he’s full of energy and always on the move! He’s a jumper too. Brainy is friendly and loves attention, though he needs a moment to settle down. When he was let out of his kennel, he was so thrilled that he zoomed and played all over the meet-and-greet room. He’s got plenty of spunk and all the typical puppy antics. His future human will need to be ready for training, patience, playtime, and enrichment to help channel his energy. The reward will be a well-mannered, loving companion once he outgrows his puppy stage.

Henry came to us as a young pup and was diagnosed with Megaesophagus. You can see by looking at him that it does not slow him down. The absolute only thing different between him and any other dog is that he has to eat on two feet. Everything else is normal. Eating on 4 feet is not an option for him. However, he can drink and have treats on 4. He is crate, house trained, and doggie door trained. He gets along well with all size of dogs as he has several foster siblings. He is very loving and affectionate and believe it or not is sensitive. When researching this condition, ask questions as not all cases are the same. His foster has had two different ME dogs and both are very different. He needs that special person who will look after him and make sure he stays and healthy and happy as he is now. He would love to have a playmate too.
