Story

Duke has completed a long term training program and is now ready for the next chapter of his life. Duke was not treated well in the past and was pretty feral when we got him, but has come a long way in learning that humans can be nice. Duke is extremely cautious of new situations, people, & other dogs. It is my belief based on working with him for the past 2 years that Duke was completely feral & much less accepting of human interaction that originally believed. Once Duke gives you his trust, he is affectionate, playful, & fun to interact with. If pushed too hard, too fast, Duke will shut down temporarily & re-emerge when he is ready. Although Duke has no known bite history it is believed that if placed in an extremely stressful situation where he felt trapped, he would go into self-preservation defense mode, so he needs a very specific home. This sweet boy is extremely cautious with new people. Slow introductions & trust building helps him to willingly approach people he has been introduced to. Duke has exhibited same interest and disinterest to both men and women. No children under the age of 14yrs is recommended. He does not do well with younger high energy children. Duke has been dog selective. He has done best with female dogs but has accepted & played with male dogs that were established in the home when he arrived. Slow introductions strongly recommended. He has shown no prey drive including barn cats & chickens near but not easily accessible Duke has shown extremely limited interest in balls, stuffed toys, and chew toys but is an extremely athletic dog who can climb 6ft fencing. Smooth wood privacy fencing is required. Duke is 4 years old, neutered, current on immuizations and on preventatives. Berne, means 'bear-like' and this boy is so cute and has the waddle of a bear! As cute as he was we noticed something else was going on with this boy besides being a tail-less wonder. His back end seemed smooshed. We got him checked out, after x-rays and evaluation he has a compressed spine. This is common in some breeds. We don't know his breed but it will be something he has forever. He is not in pain and still acts like a normal puppy. As he gets a little bigger, we will see if there are any remedies or treatments that might help him but we do suspect he will live a happy life and would be an awesome addition to any family. He may need to be in household with older kids so he doesn't get knocked around. He is potty trained. He is doing great with crate and leash training. He loves tug of war, bully sticks and pestering his older foster siblings. He has spurts of energy a couple times a day, doesn't last long and otherwise very chill! Vet suspects he will get to 30 pounds. This sweet boy was found as a stray in a park. Meet Broski: Your Ride or Die Best Friend! Broski is a fun-loving pup who will soon be your BFF! Not a day goes by, where this 3 month old puppy isn't looking to play fetch or to show off his favorite toys. He is still teething, so he loves having durable toys that feel good on his gums. Broski is very dog social and enjoys having a friend to do his zoomies with in the yard. An active family would be a great match for Broski as he has bursts of puppy energy, after his naps. He loves children, but is still a puppy and occasionally needs redirection to not mouth and will need proper supervision around children. Broski is working hard on potty training, but needs a family that will be consistent, patient and positive to ensure his success. Broski was welcomed to DallasDogRRR after being left with an elderly gentlemen that agreed to watch him while his owners went out of town. Upon their return, they never came back for sweet Broski. Luckily, he hasn't given up on humans and wants to show his next family that he is a keeper! Puppies adopted under the age of five months require a spay/neuter contract, and all dogs are required to be spayed by six months unless otherwise medically noted. Our dogs are currently on heartworm preventative. Puppies receive 3 to 4 rounds of vaccinations depending on their age, and adults receive two rounds unless they've been with us longer than a year, in which case they receive the booster update.
