Story
Meet Kody! A thoughtful eight-year-old Australian Shepherd currently in Haltom City, TX, whose tricolor coat and soulful eyes reflect the loyal heart of a pup ready for purpose and connection. Kody is the kind of companion who listens with his whole being and feels deeply, he’s more than just a pretty face with a herder’s instincts; he’s a steady, sensitive soul who longs to bond with his person. While he might not herd sheep, he’s always herding love, sticking close to the one he trusts most. And once you're his person? You're really his! Expect head nudges for butt scratches, quiet companionship, and the joy of being followed around like you're the most interesting thing in the world, because to Kody, you are. Raised in an environment that didn’t quite match his needs, Kody has come a long way. He’s conquered his fear of everyday noises (ice makers are no longer public enemy #1!) and while he still seeks a quiet space during thunderstorms or fireworks, he no longer panics. He’s never had an accident indoors, uses a dog door with ease, and hasn’t touched a trash can, but yes, he may sneak off with a pair of laundry-day undies if left unsupervised. A little mischief wrapped in a well-mannered package! Kody is dog-friendly, with a special connection to a Boxer/Pitbull mix he’s spent time with, and he’s shown calm curiosity around a baby. He has also been around a Dachshund mix, who comically took on the bossy role! Kody took it all in stride, never reacting with aggression. He doesn’t crave toys but will happily destroy a squeaky one in five minutes flat! He knows basic commands like sit, paw, and lay down, and thrives on routine and gentle connection. Car rides longer than a mile or two make him queasy, so he's happiest staying local. This clever boy needs a life filled with structure, activity, and a "job", be it hiking buddy, daily walking partner, or ranch hand in training. He’s known to be a bit of an escape artist, so a secure yard would be highly recommended, along with patient guidance to continue building confidence through positive reinforcement. Could your lifestyle offer Kody the purpose and partnership he's been waiting for? If so, email adopt@joyfulpets.com to meet this remarkable pup ready to start his next chapter with you!

IF YOU APPLY and if WE APPROVE YOU it means we are assuming when you meet any of our dogs and fall in love you're ready to ADOPT AND HIM OR HER HOME!   Meet Echo! Echo is a one-year-old, female, mini purebred Australian Shepherd weighing 24 pounds—the perfect compact size with a big personality to match. Echo is friendly, loyal, funny, and delightfully quirky. She loves other dogs and matches their play style beautifully. While we’re unsure about cats, she’s young and adaptable, so a cat-savvy introduction may go just fine. She’s the kind of dog who loves both the outdoors and the indoors—happy to run and play, then settle in when the house settles. Indoors, her energy level is about a 6, and she knows how to chill when it’s time. Outside, she’ll happily play to the energy level of whatever dogs are around her. Echo is endlessly entertaining and very creative. She recently discovered herself in the mirror and immediately turned it into a game . Toys are her jam—rope toys, Kongs, stuffed toys, water bottles shoved into socks—if it exists, Echo will find a way to play with it and keep herself busy. She’s still learning leash skills but is a quick study—eager to please, treat-motivated and praise-motivated, making training a fun and rewarding experience. Echo would do best with a dog companion, ideally a male dog her size or larger with a similar energy level. She is truly a pet-quality Aussie, not a high-drive farm or ranch dog—perfect for suburban life (and much happier that way!). Homes with children are considered on a case-by-case basis, with preference for families experienced with Australian Shepherds and kids typically 12 years or older. If you’re interested in adopting Echo, please complete the adoption application on our website, then TEXT Kevin at 469-623-3999 so he can review your application and follow up with you! She's extremely smart and she knows how to pick up on cues easily.    Stella knows several commands, including :  sit, stay, wait, leave it, drop it, go potty, and come here (sometimes, she may give you a paw if you hold your hand out) but she can still be trained because she loves treats!    Stella loves toys that she can destroy, a chew toy from time to time but what she enjoys most of all is a game of fetch! She will not play outside by herself in a backyard -- you MUST come play with her. She does know the difference between her own toys that she can play with and your belongings.   Stella loves walking/jogging on leash alongside her people; she loves being outside for any reason! She loves belly rubs, and in return, loves to give kisses of affection. She loves barking when people walk by the home or the fence - she will always let you know someone is nearby.    Stella isn't territorial for her own space but she will make any place in the house (especially the living room or your bed) her comfort spot unless you train her not to .   Stella enjoys being around dogs that want to play.  She would be really happy to have a companion dog, a large male who’s yelling and fun like her to play with.   Stella is housetrained and she will bark in the middle of the night if she needs to be let outside.   Stella is a great little dog. She’s the perfect size and the perfect energy level to be a companion to people or a family or to a male dog companion.   To apply to adopt sweet Stella, please complete the application on our website below then text:   Sara: 214-549-9905 & Kevin: 469-623-3999   So one of us can check your application!   Thank you!   www.dashdog.org General Info - PLEASE READ! *Our $450 adoption fee is based on the cost of rescuing, transporting and vetting each dog; we do not try to compete on prices with municipal shelters whose funds are paid by the city. IF YOU APPLY and if WE APPROVE YOU it means we are assuming when you meet any of our dogs and fall in love you're ready to ADOPT AND HIM OR HER HOME!   Rooster 0126   Sweet Rooster is in need of a new home through know fault of his own; his original family with a teenager has a “surprise” baby coming in a couple of weeks; they realize they’re not gonna be able to give Rooster the attention that he is used to so we are happy to help. Find the sweetheart a great home!   Even though Rooster is a purebred mini Auussie, he doesn’t have a lot of the characteristics - but in a good way! Rooster is not a hyper dog and not a jumper. He’s really a loyal companion dog who can be Velcro sometimes, wanting to be close to his people wherever they go inside the house or out.    Rooster has never had a passion or an interest in toys or fetch or other sporting activities; he’s extremely calm and that’s why he’ll make a wonderful companion dog been a variety of different situations.   Rooster likes to go for walks and will get the occasional “zoomies” when it’s cold outside.  He’s is very easy, has a sweet disposition and overall is very low maintenance.    Rooster will sit happily for a bath and loves to be brushed out! He doesn’t have a very thick coat, but initially when he’s a little nervous, he sheds. Otherwise brushing him out with a slicker brush once or twice a week should keep the shedding in check!    Like most Aussies, dogs in general, and even people, Rooster doesn’t like sudden loud bang if fireworks, storms or guns. Anytime he hears fireworks or storms he wants to be next to you. He will hide also.   Rooster likes other dogs. He is VERY tolerant of other animals. He had a frenchie brother that he was raised with until his fur-brother passed in 2023. We have an outdoor cat that Rooster thinks is HIS cat. They play together and Rooster takes his job as cat protector very seriously. If there’s another cat that comes into the garage or driveway and he hears them hiss or mess with his cat, he will bark and when let out of his kennel he will chase the trespasser away and come back to check on his cat. He’s been with this cat since it was 3 months old. He’s a Kitty-Mama!   Rooster was a year old when our son was born and has been very gentle and tolerant with our son from the beginning. He used to let him crawl all over him, pull his ears, feet, you name it. However, they were both babies then, and these aren’t things that we suggest with any rescue dogs.    The only behavior that should be monitored, is is when Rooster is around small kids small kids - he’s NEVER AGGRESSIVE but WILL get into Zoom-and-Herd mode!   Rooster thinks he needs to be first out the door at all times. Again, Rooster is not aggressive or mean at all, but he or knock over a little one there is a door open. We usually kept our son back from the door until Rooster cleared it and we didn’t have any issues.    Another great quality about this in the Aussie is Dog is not a “mouthy” dog that nips or pulls at clothes, hands, etc. He’s extremely gentle with his mouth and paws.   Rooster loves a car ride. He will alternate between the seat and the floor board. However, he’s not one to go bananas and try and run around the car or jump between front and back   Another part of Rooster‘s backstory as to why he’s while to be built . They chose to live in an RV for several months and be able to drive around - but that really isn’t something great for dogs unless they’re like tiny breeds    So it seems sad. At first  that Rooster was kenneled at his vet for entire time he’s a V.I.P. (VID?) at our vets office; our vet loves him and would take him on hikes and when he was in the office, he spent his days in the manager’s office or greeting people in the lobby not in a kennel all day. He is rather famous at the Vet Clinic He is famous at his vet clinic.   At first Rooster might be slightly nervous but again, not very obviously and not in “ a typical Australian Shepherd manner.” he just needs a few minutes to warm up and when he’s ready, he’ll come out and about and hang out with everyone.   *R Rooster is now Fostering with my dogs and me/Sara in our home in North Dallas. He was nervous for about 10 minutes, but that’s also because my big dog is a big PITA it did not take long for Rooster to become comfortable in the living room and then my bedroom and now on the bed where he is snoozing peacefully! I can’t stress enough how sweet he is how gentle and how deserving of more attention and love.   We are looking for a home for Rooster Rooster with a person, couple or family that has a fence was a nice backyard . We also specifically want a home or someone is there often working from home retired whatever the situation may be; Rooster has spent the last six months in situations where he’s been left alone for a long time and not getting that level of affection, which is why his family very sadly is choosing to do what’s best for him. The weird DASH rarely place purebred mini Aussies with kids, Rooster is great with kids and other animals. All he wants is to be home with his people or with his people if they’re doing some sort of activity or travel that he would also enjoy!   If Rooster sounds like the great Companion, you’ve been looking for please complete the application on our website below, then   TEXT SARA: 214-549-9905   And let me know so I can check your application and get back to you!   WE REALIZE THAT THIS WEEKEND January 23-26, 2026, there’s not going to be much travel and we’re not likely to meet people for adoption unless they’re comfortable driving here. However, Rooster is going to be highly sought so if you have an application online already, please text me or if you’re interested in him, please fill out the application and text me because we can still discuss everything and I can still decide from applications, who I think is the best match!    Thank you!   www.dashdog.org  General Info - PLEASE READ! *Our $450 adoption fee is based on the cost of rescuing, transporting and vetting each dog; we do not try to compete on prices with municipal shelters whose funds are paid by the city. Pretty & Peaceful Pippa Needs a quieter, loving home. Pippa is a sweet soul looking for a gal-pal or mature couple to “begin forever” again. She’s loyal and loving, but she wasn’t socialized a lot; now her owner is remarried and there are grandkids in and out - this wasn’t part of the plan for Pippa, it’s making her nervous and anxious — and and that’s why we are trying to help! I evaluated Pippa the week before Christmas. She met my big male who’s not that friendly and my little female and Pippa was great with them. I think ideally she’d like to be the only dog, but maybe it would be fine if there was a middle-aged or older male canine companion. Pippa loves to run around in the yard chasing squirrels or birds. She’s still active in that way although she’s put on weight and needs to get back into a little bit better shape; leash-walking in a less busy area would be really good for her that’s something she really enjoys. Pippa is a very loyal dog and loves her family. She’s smart and wants to please. She is not motivated by food, rather she thrives on praise. Pippa was also adopted during Covid. There wasn’t any way to do formal training with her. I know that there’s someone out there who is meant to find this sweet loving dog who knows commands, is obviously house trained, doesn’t demand a lot of of anything which is a good quality in an Aussie! If you know, someone who would consider Pippa, please share! if you’re interested in meeting Pippa for adoption please complete the application on the website site below then TEXT SARA: 214-549-9905 so I can check your app!
