It does not appear to cause him pain or limit his activity, but it does affect his gait and he walks a little differently. It breaks our hearts to make this post, but we are looking for a new home for Charlie.Charlie bit my wife’s 5-year-old cousin in the face. The child said they were playing, he fell, and Charlie reacted. No adults witnessed the incident, so we don’t know exactly what happened. We have a 1-year-old at home, and after today’s incident, we can no longer safely keep Charlie. He has also shown discomfort around children in the past.Charlie is a smart, and energetic dog who loves to play ball. He is very loving he is just a reactive dog. He needs an experienced, adult-only home with someone who understands dogs with behavioral challenges.

Story
Someone did a breed test on one of the dogs in my group (not positive it was a sibling) and it came back with the top two breed border collie and lab. That explains my smartness and loveableness! The Survivor Litter — born brave, built for joy. Meet Bravery, Chance, Courage, Fighter, Grit, Hardy, Perseverance, Resolve, Soldier, Spirit, and Tenacity — a lively crew of pups who have already shown the world what resilience looks like. With bright eyes, wagging tails, and hearts full of hope, they’re ready to start their next chapter. These pups are thriving — safe, warm, vaccinated, and discovering that every day brings something new to love. They’re a mix of sweetness, silliness, and steel spined charm, and they’re looking for families who will celebrate the strength and spirit behind their names. If you’ve been waiting for a sign, this is it. Adopt a Survivor. Give them the joyful ending their story deserves. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2707940##

This dog is a courtesy listing and not one of our dogs. Please contact the email listed in this post. For more information about Willow Ray, please contact: Kassi McCreary at 720-498-4335 Meet Willow Ray! Willow is a very sweet and loving girl. She is 2 years old, spayed, kennel and potty trained, knows her basic commands. Would do best in a home with no other dogs (has never been around cats) and no children (at least younger than 13 years old). She is a little nervous with new people but once she warms up she will be on your lap giving you kisses. She loves to snuggle and sleep under the blankets. Not food aggressive, very gentle when taking treats, grazes throughout the day. She loves to play with toys and go for walks, would love a very active new parent. She will give you the goofiest howl greeting when you come home or when she is waking up. She truly is a sweet girl and has so much potential she just needs an environment that is more conducive to her needs so she can thrive!  September 13, 2026, 9:57 pm

Story
Hi, I'm Elsa! I’m a fun-loving 3-year-old mixed breed with tons of energy and a big heart! Playing is my favorite thing—especially a good game of fetch or tug-o-war. I’d love to be your one-and-only pet, but I do great with kids and would be thrilled to have some human playmates. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful best friend, I’m your girl! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Story
Name: Carmella Breed: Border Collie Sex: Female Age: 3.5 yrs Weight: 45 lbs Energetic, Talented, Driven - Would Love To Herd and Work! Beautiful Carmella has some behavioral needs, and she's available for adoption or through a foster-to-adopt arrangement. Good with dogs? Carmella will need a slow introduction to other dogs. Good with cats? No Good with kids? Not Tested in foster care. Based on her behavior with meeting new people we would recommend she go to a kid free home. Energy level: High. Carmella is a driven Border Collie with a strong need for mental stimulation. She would thrive in a home where she has a job to do—bonus points if her adopter is interested in helping her learn how to herd! She is very intelligent and completed an official herding dog training program. With her high energy and working-dog instincts, Carmella would love nothing more than a purpose-filled life where she can stay active and engaged. Animal Characteristics: Carmella is a beautiful, sensitive soul searching for someone special to help her shine. This shy girl hasn’t had the easiest start, and she’s still learning to trust the world around her. When meeting new people, Carmella can be fearful— but with patience, structure, and love, she begins to open up. Her ideal home will be with an experienced, compassionate adopter committed to continuing her training and providing slow, gentle introductions to new people and situations. Carmella isn’t the kind of dog who will greet you with tail wags and kisses on day one — but if you give her time and understanding, you’ll earn the love of a truly loyal companion. Please learn more about the adoption process and fill out an application at www.pawsco.org/adopt/adoption-process. My adoption fee is $50. You can also contact my friends at PawsCo at adopt@pawscoadoptions.org if you have questions. I look forward to meeting you!

Story
Otto has a big personality, a sharp mind, and endless enthusiasm for life. He’s an incredibly smart dog who loves to stay busy, whether he’s sniffing every inch of the yard, exploring his surroundings, or investigating whatever catches his attention. Curious is definitely one of his defining traits! Otto is as sweet as they come and loves being around people and other dogs. In fact, he would thrive in a home with another playful canine companion. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys having friends to romp around with. Like any young puppy, Otto is still learning his manners. He’s working on boundaries, including not jumping up and keeping his puppy nipping in check. With consistency, positive reinforcement, and plenty of exercise, he’s going to make an incredible companion. Because Otto has a strong herding instinct, we think he’d do best in a home without young children. We recommend a family with kids 8 years and older who can help reinforce his training and understand his energetic puppy behavior. Otto is looking for an active home that will embrace his intelligence, keep him mentally and physically engaged, and continue helping him grow into the amazing dog he’s already proving to be. If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate, and adventurous best friend, Otto just might be your perfect match. Story
After a rough start to life, these Aussie mix puppies are thriving in their foster home. They were dumped in rural Mississippi and found by a caring FedEx driver as they huddled on a trash pile on the side of the road. Now they have learned to trust people and love to play and snuggle. They will be ready for forever homes after 3/6. They are located in Memphis, but can be transported to the Midwest, Colorado and the Northeast for an additional fee.
