A rancher roped her with a lariat, and when she panicked — because of course she did — the rope only tightened around her neck. The more she fought for air and safety, the worse it became. You can picture the fear. The confusion. The sheer desperation of a mother about to give birth, dragged and restrained. That memory didn’t just disappear when she was rescued. Pepper still has an aversion to leashes and hands reaching toward her collar. We’ve had her about a month, and only now is she beginning to be comfortable with a leash being clipped on. She is not yet walking on leash yet. Not because she’s stubborn. Because trauma leaves marks you can’t see. Pepper needs more than an adopter. She needs an angel.
