My foster mom tells me I’m a good girl all the time because I do my business outside and mostly listen when she gives me commands. I’m still trying to remember to slow down when we walk together but that’s a tough one because I’m just so happy to outside. I love to play fetch, frisbee, and chase outside. I’m off to college, but I’ll be graduating on November 14 and ready for my new home then. I must explain. I was chosen to be a part of the DARR Center Department of Ag Companion Animal Program this semester at MSU in Springfield, MO. You see, I really have gone to college. And, I’m one lucky dog! The students are working with me and 5 of my friends on basic commands and behaviors. I’ll be all polished up and ready for a new family when I’m finished here. If you’d like to meet me in the meantime, we can set up a virtual appointment – otherwise, I’ll be at my graduation ceremony/adoption event on Friday, November 14 just waiting for my forever family to come along. Hi, I'm Gabi! I'm a Border Collie/Heeler/German Shepherd mix! I'm very sweet and affectionate and I am looking for a home that can keep up with me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis, MO. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Blue is an incredibly energetic and happy boy. He is a herding breed so he needs a very active lifestyle, OR he needs a job. Now we're not talking accounting or anything sedentary, he needs a job herding, or an adventure safety buddy job where he can hike with you and keep bears away. Or something. Regardless, he's a good boy and he was rehomed through no fault of his own, they just had to move...life happens. He's currently in a foster home and does well with all of their doggies! Meeko is a sweet, active, almost four year old female spayed heeler mix. It breaks my heart to even be in this place. But unfortunately I do not believe that we are the right home for Meeko anymore. We rescued Meeko from death row at an overpopulated shelter in Arizona about 3 years ago. We have experience with the breed, and thought that she might be a good playmate for our other heeler. But Meeko is quite different from our first heeler and is very high energy and requires a long walk or hiking, fetch, and special attention daily. We have tried training, overnight camps, interactive games, daily exercise, mentally stimulating games, etc. On top of her physical and mental needs, Meeko is urinary and fecal incontinent. The vet believes she was hit by a car or had some other trauma event before we adopted her, and parts of her spine are fused together. She does pretty well though when she is kept to a strict feeding and potty schedule.
