This fuzzy little lovebug is eager to please and just waiting for his forever person or family to choose him. What’s he like? Great with other dogs and loves to play. Equal parts Velcro pup and independent entertainer — he’ll happily dig through the toy basket and keep himself busy. Knows not to chew furniture or shoes, though socks and dryer sheets are his weakness (he’ll drop them when asked!). Can get overstimulated in chaotic environments and prefers slow introductions. He may take a minute to warm up, but he’s worth the wait. Once he trusts you, he is the sweetest snuggle bug who just wants to be close to his person. What can he do? Kennel trained (sleeps through the night and goes in on command). Fully potty trained with subtle but clear cues. Excellent in the car — calm, comfy, and observant. Recently graduated a 10-day obedience program! He knows “wait,” “place,” “come,” “heel,” loose-leash walking, and more. I’m still young, but I’m already starting to wonder why I’m still waiting. I know I'm not the best at meet and greets. I am a little shy when I meet new people and I guess they don't like that. I do try but I just like to get to know new people. I wish someone would give me a chance! I’m playful and curious about the world, and I try so hard to be a good girl. I’m doing well with potty training. I’m learning to sit — I’m not perfect yet, but I’m trying. I’m also getting better on the leash every day, because I really want to make someone proud. I’ve spent time with kids, even tiny ones, and I was gentle the whole time. No nibbling, no chaos — just kisses and quiet love. I like to follow my people around, staying close, just in case they need me… or in case they leave. Right now, I’m happy where I am — but what I really want is my own home. A place where I don’t have to wonder how long I’ll stay. A family who sees me before I grow up and get overlooked. They had a training class at the rescue and I did great. I made some new friends. Age: 1 year Breed: Border Collie mix Sex: Male Weight: 40 lbs Energy Level: Moderate/Still building confidence Jesse is a tenderhearted young Collie mix who recently made the trip from Kentucky to his foster home in southeast Michigan — where the snow was a big new experience! Despite all the changes in his world, Jesse has shown himself to be incredibly gentle, quiet, and people-oriented. He loves pets and is warming up well to his foster family. As he gains confidence, he is starting to show more of his playful puppy energy and behaviors, but he responds well to structure and redirection. Jesse is naturally curious but still finding his confidence. He has begun going on short walks, and he uses a leash well for bathroom breaks while he continues to learn that the world outside is a safe place. With encouragement and routine, he’s already making steady progress. He is crate-trained, sleeps quietly through the night, and has done very well when left alone. This boy is also potty-trained and knows basic cues like “sit” and “no.” Jesse is very food-motivated, which makes training rewarding and fun. Jesse is one of those rare, young dogs who comes with a naturally calm, gentle presence. He’s affectionate, eager to learn, and incredibly resilient for all he's been through. He does have a herding instinct, which he has displayed toward cats and toward young children. He is gentle with the foster family’s four-year-old, but his herding behavior can be overwhelming for small kids. Because of this, he may be best in a home without cats or very young children. With time, consistency, and love, his personality will continue to blossom, and he’ll repay you with loyalty, sweetness, and endless cuddles. Neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Tito may be young, but he’s already showing a lot of heart. This sweet pup came to the shelter a little unsure of the world—wide eyes, a tucked tail, and a nervous stance. But with gentle care and time in play groups, Tito has begun to open up beautifully. He greets other dogs with kindness and has even started engaging in playful interactions with a wagging tail and relaxed body. Tito enjoys affection from handlers and sometimes prefers to sit quietly in the shade, watching the world go by. He’s a gentle observer with a soft spirit, looking for a patient and loving home where he can continue to grow in confidence and joy. Tito will be transported to Elgin, IL in November and available for adoption.
