Story
Meet Lincoln....... Lincoln is an adorable young boy, thought to be a Border Collie Mix. Like Border Collies, he’s very smart, a quick learner, very alert and quite energetic!! At age 9 months, he weighs 38 lbs. It is most important to note that we cannot be 100% sure of his adult weight, but our best guess is about 40ish lbs. This handsome boy joined BAARK from an overcrowded shelter in Kentucky earlier this year. He is thought to have been born around December 23, 2022. He was a scared little puppy when entering our rescue program but has come out of his shell and has evolved into a playful, sociable, and somewhat mischievous boy. Lincoln is great with dogs outside of his foster home, but can be protective of his home and human, indoors. Most likely Lincoln would prefer being an only dog, receiving all the attention he deserves. However he could to ok with a calm easy-going female. He would probably be far too energetic for a senior (dog or human!) An ideal family for Lincoln is one able to assimilate the energy of a young boy into its lifestyle and is willing to commit the time to working with and training Lincoln to be his best self! A secure, above-ground fenced yard is important. Lincoln would not thrive as an apartment dweller. Lincoln is crate-trained and is working on good house manners (housebreaking). He is up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventative. He is neutered and microchipped as well. . For information about adding this adorable boy to your family please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. BAARK is located in the far NW suburbs of Chicago and adopts local to this area.

If you are interested in TUESDAY or in adopting a pup in general, the first step is an adoption application. Download an adoption application here Please email the completed application to adoptionteam1.woofriver@gmail.com Please submit an application rather than an inquiry with no application attached. Let TUESDAY teach you how to have fun! This adorable girl always wins Miss Personality paws down! She wakes up happy every morning, ready for whatever love, action or excitement her day will bring. TUESDAY enjoys giving kisses, getting belly rubs and cuddling with dogs and humans. That being said, she also loves her playtime. She is a big fan of toys, romping around the yard and playing with her foster family. Life for her is all about finding someone to shower with adoration and accompany on life's adventures. She is a friendly and affectionate little nugget who is thrilled to go absolutely anywhere your heart desires. Her positive attitude and curious nature makes her the perfect buddy for any of your outdoor adventures. It typically takes us around 5 BUSINESS DAYS to process an application. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed. Thank you in advance for your patience. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook! Thank you for choosing rescue!!

Story
Reggie is at our shelter. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet him during open hours! Scroll through his pictures to see his videos! Reggie has a sad past, but a bright future ahead. Things can only get better for Reggie and his sister Rita. Rita and Reggie and many, many more of their siblings and relatives, were found in a Chicago home after the owner passed. Over a dozen cattle dogs (we assume they are all related) were living in terrible conditions in a home that looked normal from the outside. Chicago Animal Care and Control was alerted to the situation, but the dogs were so under-socialized and afraid that to take them all to the city shelter would be not only an issue of space (our city shelter is constantly full and in the terrible position of euthanizing dogs for space) but given how shut down they all were, a loud and scary place like that would make them worse. A local rescue, One Tail at a Time, was contacted in order to avoid these dogs going to CACC. They took all of the younger cattle dogs as some of the adults would not even allow them to approach. We were then contacted about taking two, and we stepped up-- how could we not once we saw their adorable faces? Rita and Reggie arrived to us on 4/8 and they were so shut down at first. In the span of 24 hours they made incredible progress, and continue to do so, and we are not just saying that! All you have to do is watch their videos to see for yourself. They do not solicit affection at first, unless they know you (they know staff and volunteers now so as you can see in the videos are super affectionate dogs!) but baby talk them a little and they come press into you and nudge for a little bit more pets. They may shy away at first as you reach for them, but they no longer flinch and dart away to huddle in a corner, shaking. WHen they came to us, they had never been on a leash, and now they walk like pros! They had probably only socialized with the other dogs in their house, and the few people, and now they have a ton of dog and human friends. We would love to get Reggie into a home, so he can really blossom. Reggie will need a patient adopter who has a home on the quieter side, without a lot of hustle and bustle. Reggie is so sweet, but he is still adjusting, and would need time to adjust yet again in a new space. This lasts all of two seconds, though. If you would like to be a part of Reggie's journey, please email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org about fostering or adopting this good boy, or come in to visit during open hours. Reggie's adoption fee is $250. This animal will be neutered on 4/25/24, is up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Story
Meet Kage, the ultimate good boy who's just so darn cute! This gentleman is a pro at house living, fully potty trained, and a master at walking on a leash and harness. He's a social butterfly, getting along famously with other dogs and loving those backyard playdates with his pals. Kage is a stunning mix of Lab and Border Collie, the perfect blend of intelligence and family-friendliness. He's just the right size, like a mini Lab or a slightly larger Border Collie. When you find two fantastic things that go together like peanut butter and jelly, you celebrate! Kage is that winning combo, and now you can celebrate by making him a cherished member of your family. His temperament is pure gold - sweet as honey with everyone he meets. Now, here's the scoop: Kage is a special needs pup, and he's looking for someone who can be with him about 90 percent of the time. Storms, rain, and loud noises send him into severe panic attacks, and he's been known to chew through walls when anxiety strikes. Crates aren't his jam because of past storm-related trauma. He's also dealing with seizures, so he's on medication for that. Kage would thrive in a local adoption, and he's best as a single dog with no cats or small animals around. He's a wonderful companion for older kids, and he loves nothing more than cuddles and long walks. He's got the whole house training thing down too. His foster mom adores him and has prepared him for his forever family as best she can. Now, the ball is in your court. Remember, when you adopt Kage, you're not just bringing home a good boy; you're giving him the loving, understanding home he deserves. Don't shop, adopt, because Kage's life depends on it! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
Zoey is a mini Aussie and is a very loving companion. She is great with children and friendly with any new people she meets. She adapts well to what your family is doing. If your family is just relaxing after a long day she is ready to just lay at your feet in the living room. She is truly an amazing dog and we have never had issues with her being destructive. Zoey just sniffs and walks around. She is always fun to play with and has brought some really good laughs to our family with her silly energy. We are unable to take care of her due to circumstances and would just love for her to go to a loving home. The profile will say needs to be spayed within 30 days but that is put up by the website as a default. It is not a requirement from our family, truly your decision.

Story
Meet Meg, a sweet little 2-year old tripod. Meg is the sweetest pup ever and in spite of missing one of her legs, she’s quite an active girl; she does not let anything get in her way of having fun. Although Meg looks like a Chihuahua Mix perhaps, her DNA testing shows her to be 100% Australian Cattledog. She must be a “mini!!” Meg weighs 13 lbs. Meg’s level of energy and activity, and her unbridled enthusiasm, make her a great candidate for agility or other dog sports! She’s very smart and a quick learner…she’s up for anything! While Meg is quite the active girl, she absolutely loves to cuddle, preferable under the covers, after a long day of ongoing play with other dogs in her foster home. Although she joined us from Texas, she quickly came to enjoy the January snow and running and hopping through it!! She’s definitely a fun-loving girl, all year round! An ideal home for Meg is one that is active and is looking for a playful active dog to incorporate into all family activities. We’d love to see Meg adopted by a family experienced with agility training and related dog sports….looking for a dog to engage in such activities. A secure fenced yard is important to allow Meg to run to her heart’s content as well as to play with other dogs in the home. Meg is fully vetted, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm prevention, spayed and microchipped. If you are looking for a playful, active, fun-loving girl, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895 regarding our Meg. Note that BAARK is located in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago and adopts local to our area.
