Story
Baby Bat embodies the personality, uniqueness and likeness of the Batman. First, he works alone. No sidekicks or partners. He prefers solitude and his space. Baby Bat has lived with his foster and her dog pack for 5 years, he gets along with them but tolerates them at most. He would do well in a home where he is the only dog, no children, and adults only. Next, Baby Bat is an apex predator. Which means he needs his sleep and food and not to be interrupted or coddled when given either. Baby Bat is not a lap or cuddly dog. Finally, did we mention Baby Bat is a Chihuahua mix? That's a really important detail! Baby Bat is a great and loyal dog seeking a great family to adopt him! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

TEXAS ADOPTION ONLY Grandpa Lucky I have the weirdest name. What is that? "Grandpa Lucky. Sounds like I had a lot of luck in my short life, but I am not quite sure of all that. I just look like a Grandpa because I have lived outside most of the time and it is hard on a fella. I am only about 6 years old we think. First off, I was fished out of a river and taken to the city dog pound. I can't tell you how I got into the river, but foster mom suspects I had a little help with that. Well, it was lucky that I got fished out, but then I went to the city pound where I had 3 days before my time was up...literally. But then I got lucky again because foster mom saw me and just had to have me to foster so I got a ticket out of there. I was a pretty skinny dude when she got me, and it wasn't too long before she discovered that I love to eat. She noticed that I was having a little trouble walking on my back legs and that wasn't so good so when we got me checked out, it turns out that I have a little compression of my T4 to T6 vertebrae, whatever that is. Not good. But the vet lady said that nothing needed to be done for that so that was lucky. So, when I get a little tired, I hop like a bunny and the other times when I feel good, I walk like a regular dog. I had some tests done on my blood and I have worms living in my heart of all places. I am told that is not good. But it is lucky for me that foster mommy is giving me the medicines to kill those little varmints over time and not all at once. She said it is easier on me if we do it this way. Plus, it is lucky that I get the medicine in a little bit of tasty food that I love. Did I tell you I like to eat? About that, foster mommy tells me I can't gain too much weight, or it will be too hard on my joints and back and that won't be good. Aren't I lucky to have her to take care of me? The one complaint I have with foster mommy is that she doesn't have enough time to let me sleep in her lap during the day. I would like to have a lap in my new forever home and someone who will love me as much as foster mommy does. Because of the medicines that I am taking to kill the worms in my heart, we are looking for a forever home in the San Antonio area so I wouldn't have to travel so far. Besides having a lap to sleep in during the day, I want to sleep in the bed with you at night. I can't jump off the bed though but being with you all the time is what I want. Then I would really feel lucky! $200 Local adoption fee (in Texas)

This is Buddy, and he can't wait to be yours! Buddy is a sweet young Pug mix that started life off as a feral, until he was caught by a sweet and loving foster. Buddy got the good life after that! Spoiled with treats and given so much love he's developed into a great dog. Currently, Buddy is on bedrest after completing heartworm treatment so he needs lots of love and patience while he's resting and recovering. He's a very friendly boy and does great with pretty much everyone. He would do best in a household with an active family. Buddy does tend to bark at smaller animals so he would do best in a household that doesn't have farm animals or other small pets. Dogs and cats he is fine with, though he has not had much experience with cats. Buddy would do well paired with another calm and confident dog. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)

Story
I'm Zeus. I'm a gentle and resilient soul. Despite my visual impairment, I navigate the world with grace and curiosity. My other senses are keen, and I rely on them to explore my surroundings. I even learned to use a doggie door before my friends who have good eyesite! I will be someone's loyal companion. I love cuddling up and listening to the sounds of the world outside. My blindness doesn’t hold me back; instead, I think it adds to my charm. I like basking in the sun, treats and lap time. I'd like a quiet home, a cozy spot by the window where I can feel the sun and hear the birds and a a soft bed. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. No need to call to find out about me, you can ask questions on the application or email questions to info@polkcountyhumanesociety.org. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2063692##

Hello hello everyone, my name is Blondie, looking for my Dagwood where our lives can also be filled with hilarious misadventures and endearing quirks!! I'm around 2 years old and come in at about 7lbs. While I do attach myself and love my person will all these 7lbs I'm not the biggest fan of those unknown persons. I do really well with other pups and would do great in a home with a 4 legged 'sibling' or just as great getting all your attention as your one and only! But I would prefer a more quiet home without small children, maybe where my person works from home or is retired. I will make a great companion for leisurely strolls thru the neighborhood, a playmate for another 4 legged 'sibling' and the greatest confidante from heart to heart conversations to keeping all your secrets. From my adorableness to my sweet (for my person) nature, I'm ready to be all I can be....will I be YOURS?!! Fill out my adoption application found at haydudeequine.org

HI! I'm Zinnia, I'm from a local shelter. From the foster: Zinnia is very smart and highly food motivated. She likes to sit on the deck. She likes her people to stay in the room where she can keep an eye on them. Zinnia does bark and her bark is rather loud for her size. She prefers women and seems like she'd do best in a home with very stable routines that will help ease her anxiety. Hello! Throughout my veterinary care at Secondhand Hounds, it was discovered I have heart issues. A cardiologist performed an echocardiogram and diagnosed me with aortic valve stenosis and patent ductus arteriosus. I had a Amplatz Canine Duct Occluder procedure completed at the University of Minnesota to help with my heart conditions. I will have a 3 month recheck at the U of M. At that appointment, it will be decided if I need an additional heart procedure. If I am adopted prior to this medical care, SHH will cover my 3 month recheck exam, second heart surgery (if deemed necessary) and my spay surgery at the SHH Vet Center (this will not occur until I am cleared).

Story
Hi! I'm Tiny Batman! I'm from Alabama. From his foster: Tiny Batman is a super sweet and energetic little guy. He's still pretty puppy-like but is such a kind boy. He takes a few minutes to warm up to strangers, but once he does, he gives hugs and kisses and snuggles! He loves to play with toys and run around the yard. He's good with other dogs and is very food motivated, so probably trainable. He's still working on his housetraining, but is making great progress! He is crate trained and sleeps in a crate at night for now while he's housetraining, but like most chihuahuas would prefer to sleep in bed! Tiny Batman has a small amount of separation anxiety and stranger danger, and so probably barks a little too much for a home with shared walls or where there will be lots of neighbors or strangers coming over.

Story
My name is Rose. I am from Minnesota. From her foster: Rose is very loving and just looking for someone to bond with! She is a snuggle buddy par excellence. She's generally quiet but will let you know if something's up outside. Good with dogs, though she can try to dominate smaller dogs, and pays no heed to my cat. Don't know how she is with kids because there are none here, but I don't see any reason she wouldn't be ok with them. Not crate trained but does fine sleeping in her own bed in her human's room. She would love to snuggle under the covers with you but if that's not cool, she is easily directed back to her own bed. I've only fostered her a short time but she is house trained when kept to a schedule. She is adventurous and likes to move along rapidly, so not a sedate walker on the leash. She walks companionably with my little pack and ignores the other dogs she sees out walking. For 8 years old, she is very lively, very athletic, seems much younger! She really is looking for love and will bond very quickly with you and be your constant companion. She is afraid of loud noises and fireworks. She looks like a classic "chiweenie", chihuahua/doxie mix but who knows what her true DNA is? Her heart is 100% gold. From the Vet: Rose was diagnosed with IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) and is currently on a trial of pain medications to help her be more comfortable. This is typically an age-related degenerative condition, but generally with rest and medical management with pain meds or joint supplements, most dogs still go on to live full lives! Her future home may want to have certain comfort aids such as ramps to get in car, bed, couch etc. a no pull harness rather than collar alone, or a raised food bowl. Rose should be monitored for further signs of degenerative pain as she ages and her owner should consult a primary care vet when needed to ensure her golden years are full of comfort and love!

Story
Little Bit, affectionately known to his friends and foster family as "Spleen, embodies the charm and warmth of the South. Originally found wandering the streets of Alabama, this sweet little chihuahua has found himself right at home in his current foster environment, where he's been winning hearts for about a month now. Spleen is a small dog with a big heart. He has been polite with his foster brother (large dog) and several cats that he's met during outings with friends. His gentle demeanor has earned him praise from all who meet him. On the weekends you can find him enjoying social situations such as dog-friendly patio restaurants and breweries. The little man also can strut his stuff on a leash and enjoys leisurely walks in the summer sun. In his foster home, Spleen adores snuggling under blankets and being close to his human companions. He has a penchant for car rides and is discovering the delight of playing with toys, showcasing his youthful spirit. His day to day routine includes regular potty breaks and medication every 8 hours, lovingly administered with a dab of his favorite peanut butter-a treat he eagerly anticipates. As a result, he will need a human who is close to home to keep him on schedule with his meds. Please read more from the vet below about his medical needs, spoiler alert: he's been doing great on regular medication and seems much more cheerful and zesty. He truly is a wonderful companion who is ready to bring joy and love to a new home. If you're looking for a loyal and loving addition to your family, consider adopting Spleen. He's a great little guy ready to share his Southern charm and affection with his forever family. From the Vet: Little Bit was seen at our Vet Center for a few seizure episodes. He is currently managing these episodes on three times daily As long as you are comfortable watching out for this Little Bit will be an amazing addition to any family!

Story
Tito is a really good girl. She has been in the care of different family members most of her life. She is approx. 12yrs old. She has never been surgically fixed as she was told by a vet she couldn't get pregnant but she was not in my care at that time so I don't know the official reason. She does need some back teeth removed which do cause her issues periodically which should be addressed. She also has partial prolapse trachea which is very common for the breed and makes clearing her throat sound worse than it really is. She is happiest lounging around and burrowing herself into her thrown of blankets or under a blanket on your lap. I don't think she has ever seen herself in the mirror as if any animal or stranger comes in sight she will bark but she stops when you tell her to. Kids are fine but small children need to move slowly. Unfortunately I have severe health issues that will be ongoing and also need new housing but Tito deserves a new loving home and family

Britta is a total sweetheart who just melts into you when you pick her up. She loves being close to her people and her siblings and will be an amazing little soulmate to her future family. She enjoys exploring the wild world outside when accompanied by her people, and she thinks toys are the most fun things ever, even if they're twice her size. Cats and bigger dogs are fascinating creatures to Britta and deserve closer inspection if she can ever catch up to them with her tiny little legs. Once she's worn herself out, she seeks out her people to curl right up with them for a well-deserved nap. Her forever family is going to be so lucky to add her to their lives. Britta is estimated to be 3 months old and 7 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    DOB: 10/01/2015 Requires another dog in home: Yes, needs another confident dog Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes, dog friendly dogs Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: Unknown Weight: 13 pounds Requires a fenced yard:  Yes, needs a fence  Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area. Invisible/ underground fencing is not recommended for most rescue dogs. Hello, my name is Jessie and I am the perfect combination of sweet and gentle. I am a timid and shy girl who is making tremendous progress living in a home with a loving family. I have learned so many things – the most important is to trust my people. My people have been very gentle and going slow with me and I have made a lot of progress. She gives me little massages on my head and back – it is so relaxing for me and my people. I have the softest coat and I think you will agree! I am a shy little girl, so having a confident dog in my forever home is required. Another dog will be helpful to show me the ropes, help me get on a routine and help me feel comfortable in my surroundings. Foster mom tells me with a little time and a lotta love, I will come out of my shell and be a great friend to my people. A lot of commotion worry me a bit, so I spend time in my comfy bed watching the activity in the house. Hopefully you have lots of comfy beds for me! Potty training is going great, my foster mom carries me outside and I am good about doing my business on a routine. While I will go potty on a leash, I don't know how to go for walks yet so will need a fence. Maybe there is another dog in the house to show me how to walk on a leash? Hopefully! Anyway, I am ready for my forever. My forever family, my forever home and my forever best friend that will love me unconditionally, not give up on me! I promise I’m worth it and I will fill that hole that you possibly never even knew was there! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    How exciting!  I’m so happy knowing I am ready to have my very own forever home and I’m hoping it’s soon.  I may be a bit cautious at first, but trust me, once I realize I'm in a safe and loving environment, my sweet and playful side shines through. I'm learning quickly that I'm surrounded by caring humans, and each day, I'm opening up a bit more. I’m learning so much and starting to come out of my shell. I like having fun with toys, ropes and bones.  I just love playing and also treats.  Every day there seems to be new things to discover and explore. I am showing my people that I am a very smart girl and recently learned the word "sit." I know we will learn so much more together! There are young kids here at my foster home and we have a good time together, too, because they understand my boundaries and are gentle towards me.  Younger kids who are loud and move quickly would not be a match for me.  I do well in my crate and am working on potty training but do well with a good schedule.  We have started practicing leash walking and I am a work in progress. If you promise to keep working with me on leash training, I don't need a fence in my forever home.  I do well with all other dogs (I do prefer the smaller ones) and would benefit from having a confident and social dog in my forever home to help me learn to trust and get on a routine.  Patience is the key as I continue to learn and build trust. I'm destined to become a wonderful companion, and with a little patience and love, I'll be the perfect addition to your family. If you're ready to embark on this journey of trust, love, and playfulness, let's meet soon! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Your donation will help us buy dog food and pay for medical costs. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hey there, I'm Suzi, your potential new best friend! Let me tell you a bit about myself. I may be a Pom mix weighing in at a petite 15 pounds, but my personality is larger than life. At home, I'm sweet, gentle, and playful—a true good girl through and through. I'm still learning to trust humans, so meeting new people can make me a bit shy. But once I warm up to you, I'm all about those cuddles and scratches. Oh, and chin and back scratches? Count me in! When I'm not snuggling up next to my foster mom, you'll find me napping in cozy dog beds or tearing up the backyard with some epic zoomies. I absolutely adore playing with other dogs, and I'm always up for a game of fetch or tug-of-war. Plus, I'm a foodie at heart—I'll do just about anything for some tasty treats like garbanzo beans, carrots, or chicken. Potty training is coming along nicely, I’m working on doing my business outside or on a washable potty pad indoors. While I'm crate trained and ride like a champ in the car, I feel most comfortable in an x-pen or gated area when left alone. Oh, and did I mention I'm a fantastic mama? I raised six adorable puppies like a boss! But those days are over and I’m ready to be the center of attention. Although I'm still working on leash training, I'm getting better every day. I'll need a fenced yard and a patient owner who can help me build confidence and continue my training. When it comes to grooming, I'm a trooper. I did great at the groomer for my bath and nail trim, even if the dryer was a bit scary. And I'm totally cool with daily brushing sessions at home. Sure, I may bark at strangers or get a little spooked from time to time, but deep down, I'm just a sweet and loving girl looking for my forever home. And if you have other furry friends, no worries—I get along great with cats and dogs alike. I may have some hurdles to overcome, but watching me blossom and grow more confident is truly something special. So, if you're ready to open your heart and home to a girl like me, let's make it official! This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. If you are interested in a   particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.     ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home.
