Story
Hi, I’m Bobbles, 2.5 years old, and 18 lbs of sweetness and perfection – at least that is what my foster mom tells me. I had a tough start to life and survived a distemper infection when I was a puppy. That left me with something called myoclonus which is an involuntary, rhythmic, or sporadic contraction of muscles, so basically, I’m twitching all the time. Or you can just play some music and say I’m dancing. The distemper also caused some tooth abnormalities, but RCHS gave me an extensive dental so I am good to go for a while now in that regard. My foster mom was curious about my breed mix, so she sent my cheek swabs off for DNA testing. Apparently, I’m chihuahua/pit bull, which I guess makes sense given my short and stocky physique. However that happened, I feel kinda sorry for my mom, especially if she was the chihuahua. But in any case, I’m so happy to be here, and the result was a stupendously cute dog, if I do say so myself!! I love everyone I have met so far, as well as cats and dogs. I especially enjoy playing with my foster brothers and sisters and would prefer to have a playmate. I have a bad tendency of trying to wander off when I am outside, so a fenced yard is a must – I can’t help it, I’m just a curious little thing and I'm ever-searching for the best sunny spot to have a little nap. All and all, I’m super excited that I’m ready to find my forever family! Story
Meet Luna — a resilient sweetheart with a heart as big as her smile. Luna is a 4–5 year old spayed husky/shepherd mix who absolutely lights up when meeting new people! She came to RCHS 3 months ago after being hit by a car and ending up in a Wichita facility. RCHS was contacted to see if we could help. She has blossomed into a gentle, affectionate, and playful companion who’s just as happy greeting you at the door as she is curling up nearby for a cozy afternoon. This special girl has overcome a lot. After being hit by a car, Luna required surgery on her left hind leg and has been on a long road to recovery. She’s still healing and continues to work on rebuilding muscle and strength in that leg, but she’s making steady progress. Through it all, she’s shown incredible patience, grit, and resilience — her positive spirit truly shines! Luna may be a mature dog, but she still has a fun, playful side. She enjoys fetch, tug-of-war, and a good chew toy session. She has an adorable habit of crinkling her nose into a playful 'smile' when she’s excited. She’s also very food-motivated — mealtime is her favorite time of day, and she takes treats ever so gently. She’s both crate-trained and potty-trained, and she knows basic commands like sit, lie down, and stay. Like many huskies, she can be a little stubborn at times, so she’ll benefit from continued one-on-one training. At home, Luna is wonderfully adaptable. She enjoys neighborhood walks, but is just as content lounging around, often rolling onto her back against the couch or wall in her signature relaxed style. She currently lives with three cats and mostly ignores them, making her a great option for a cat-friendly home. Luna has also shown that she is wonderful with children. She has spent a weekend around a 4-month-old, a 1.5-year-old, and a 5-year-old, and was a gentle sweetheart the entire time. When it comes to other dogs, Luna does best with slow introductions and appears most comfortable with calm dogs who respect personal space. In her foster home, she has gotten into a few scuffles with a younger, high-energy dog when her boundaries were ignored, at times requiring separation. Because of this, Luna may do best as the only dog in the home. However, she has also shown patience and an ability to move past these incidents, so she may still thrive in a home with a mellow canine friend who understands boundaries. Luna is a patient, loving dog who has already come so far and still has so much to give. She’s ready to continue her journey with a forever family who will support her ongoing recovery, help her build strength, and give her all the love she deserves. Story
Our sweet Coco is now officially heartworm negative and ready to find her furever home! Yay Coco!! Coco is the absolute sweetest girl and is down for any little adventure. She loves coming along to get study treats and lives for her pup cups. With the nice weather, she has enjoyed lounging in the sun, rolling around in the grass, getting sniffs in at City Park and going on short walks around campus. She was great at making new friends at her temporary foster's house and loves a good couch nap. She will truly make the best addition for anyone who wants a sweet companion. A few other facts about Coco are, despite being a hound, her foster says she's maybe heard her bark three times in the whole time I have had her. She's been great living with her foster's cat and with any dog she interacts with. She is also fantastic at going into and being in her kennel when left alone and at night, but we think she would truly love to sleep snuggled up to her furever person in a bed instead. She is pretty good at understanding where you want her to go and what you want her to do. She will truly make the best addition for anyone who wants a sweet companion! Story
Well hi there - my name's Elanore, but my foster mom calls me Ellie! I’m a sweet little 14yr old, 13lb Chiweenie, with a frosty face and soft brown eyes, who lost her family a while back. I came to RCHS with numerous health problems: I had heartworm disease, multiple tumors and horrible dental disease. After months of treatments and a few surgeries, I’m all fixed up now and ready to live my bestest life!! I’m pretty laid back and love to nap, but then I’m a mature lady who doesn’t care to go crazy or chew things up. Toys, nope, they are for babies; just give me a soft doggie bed and a blanket or towel to cover myself during the day and I’m good! I like to follow foster mom around the house, as I feel safer when I know she is nearby, but otherwise, I’m pretty quiet. I like to sleep on the bed with mom and will cover myself up with a little doggie throw blanket. I just find it comforting to be close to my people. I’m fine with other dogs, except puppies who want to constantly play with me - I just can’t have that! After all, I’m a dignified mature lady! Older dogs who will leave me alone to nap are great, and cats don’t bother me a bit, I’m fine with them - they are usually much too snooty anyway. I don’t really bark, so I accidently learned how to jingle some bells that foster mom had hanging from the door knob, when I want to go outside to potty. Who says you have to be a puppy to learn new tricks!! Occasionally I forget to use the bells, but I will still go to the door. If you ask me if I have to go outside to potty, I will go with you to the door and go outside. At my age I’m not much of a jumper, so my foster mom bought a couple of foam stairs so I can get up on the couch and the bed at night and it only took me a few minutes to figure them out. I’m kind of smart like that. I’m looking for a quiet family, maybe with someone who is home most of the time, as I do get anxious when left by myself - but don’t worry, I won’t tear things up. I just get a bit scared that you aren’t coming back and I'll bounce all over when you do come back, so you will know how much I missed you. I probably would not do well in a house with little kids; maybe teens would be ok. I'm looking for a family who would understand that I’m an older lady, who no longer 'fetches' or plays with toys like a puppy, but would happily lay by them for pets and a few belly rubs. Story
Meet Copper! 🐾 If you’ve ever wanted to feel like the most important person in the world every time you walk into a room, this is your guy! Even if you just stepped out for five minutes, Copper will greet you with full-body wiggles like he hasn’t seen you in years. His happiness is absolutely contagious! Copper absolutely loves other dogs. His current foster siblings are a bit on the grouchy side, but that doesn’t stop him from hoping they’ll change their minds and play with him. He’s always politely trying to convince them that playtime is a great idea, because he’d love nothing more than a dog buddy to romp around with. Copper is a great walking companion. He’s doing amazing with leash training and loves getting out to explore. Whether it’s a neighborhood stroll or a little adventure, he’s ready to go. When it’s time to wind down, he happily heads to his kennel and settles in for the night like a pro. He’s also doing great with house training and hasn’t had any accidents in his foster home. This sweet boy is very eager to please, especially if treats are involved. He’s always trying to be the best boy he can be. If you’re looking for a happy, affectionate dog who will greet you like you’re the best thing that happened all day, Copper might just be your perfect match. 💛🐶 If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our application here: http://www.rchsks.org/our-animals/adopt-a-pet/adopting-a-dog. Story
Hi, I'm Mark: Young, single, male with severe anxiety issues, looking for someone wanting a big, soft-hearted companion to chill with. I will pretty much be your shadow once I find you and I will make you happy to call me your own. I will contribute the following in exchange for a place to call home: I will bring you joy every time you give me a treat. (I take medicine every day for anxiety) I will lick the plates and bowls clean so you don’t have to spend so much time doing dishes. I promise they will be spotless. I will let you know when a person comes into our yard, knocks on the door; or even if they just happen to walk by our house and look at us, I mean you never know what they might be thinking. In return I would like a secure place to sleep - with you is my favorite place. I also really feel good on the couch or the big chair. A bowl of water and a bowl for food. I will need a promise to take me for walks and a fenced yard I can run around in. I also loved the dog park I went to. It was great fun! Cats? I don’t really care Chickens? They look fun but not worth chasing Children? I absolutely love the two littles that I live with now. One is 7 and one is 5. They play with me and it is so fun. Other dogs? It will take me a while to feel like they like me, but then we will be good buddies. This is the most important part - it will take me longer than usual to be comfortable with you. I will be very shy until I find my person. This 'person' is the one who takes the time to know me and read my nervous signals. This person will know that I get scared very easily and will take extra steps to get around the scary things. I really want to find my forever person. Please give me a chance to be the best furry pal you have ever known!
