Story
He is a playful, talkative, and fairly energetic boy. He is very food motivated. Much more playful than I can keep up with at my age. He knows a lot of commands and very much wants to snuggle. He would be great for a person or family that is more active. Im a disabled veteran with mobility issues and I developed an allergy to his saliva that breaks me out in hives. I want him to go to a forever home where he can get the activity and snuggles he deserves.

Story
HELLO FOLKS! My name is Holly, and I am a very sweet, 5 and ½ year old female German Shepherd mix. I generally like people and I do well with other dogs, but it’s best if I’m supervised when I am around them. You see, I do what the hoomans here at Golden Paw Rescue call resource guarding. I don’t know when or why I started doing that, and neither do they. They tell me that sometime in my life, I may not have felt safe and secure, so I got worried about my possessions. I may growl or bark or even snap when someone tries to take them. Since I do have this tendency, it’s best if I’m in a home with no young children or animals. I really need a home where I can have my own space to myself, for me and my possessions. I think that with my own space, where nobody else goes, and a regular feeding schedule, I will realize that I won’t be losing my stuff. Then I can relax and not worry about it so much. I am better than when I first got here. I will now trade stuff for treats or toys, if I need to. Also, the hoomans here have taught me that I must sit and wait for food or treats. I also know commands for sit, shake, down, load up, or kennel. I also walk well on a leash and have traveled in a vehicle as well, (although I may need some more practice on that one.) I am what the hoomans here call a larger sized dog person (61-100 pounds), and have had all my shots and am spayed. I’m also terribly beautiful. Just look at my picture. I look kind of like Old Yeller and I’m ready to go. So, there it is folks. I not only need a special forever home, but a very special person to take me there. Someone with the vision to see the dog I can be and the patience to get me there. Someone who has experience with dogs. The hoomans here say I am extremely smart and can learn what you want me to know. And in exchange, I can give you loyalty, gratitude and love for a lifetime. So what do you say? Fill out an application, come for a visit and you will see that I am that dog you’ve always wanted. If you’re the special person I’ve been waiting for, we really can get this done together. Love Holly

Story
Meet Ramus, a young, sweet, brave, friendly, and energetic Shepherd mix. She is a bundle of joy, always ready to play and explore. Despite her young age, Ramus is incredibly courageous and unafraid to try new things or make new friends. With a heart full of love and an indomitable spirit, she brightens up every room. Ramus gets along with everyone she meets, both humans and other dogs. Her energetic nature makes her the perfect companion for anyone who enjoys an active lifestyle. Adopting Ramus means gaining a loyal friend, a brave companion, and a source of endless love and joy. She is ready to find her forever home. Are you prepared to open your heart and home to her? Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their size in a group setting, and dog meet-and-greets with the adopter's dog(s) are always encouraged. A cat test may be conducted at the adopter's request but should only be used as a general-purpose screening to rule out overt aggression. We always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendations on the suitability of placement with children by age are based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavioral observations in the shelter environment should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at a given point in time and may not be indicative of a dog's overall mental health. The Joplin Humane Society believes all adopters need to be prepared to invest time and energy into working with their new dog, as animals arrive at the shelter from a variety of situations and scenarios and may have had little to no prior training. Dogs should never be fed together unless it is known that they do not possess resource-guarding tendencies. We always encourage adopters to research the breeds or mixes of breeds before adoption as many can have unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Keep in mind that the transition from the shelter to a home environment is stressful for dogs, and the Rule of 3 should be used as a rule of thumb when introducing a dog to their new surroundings. For the first 3 days, fear, anxiety, and stress levels are at their highest; and dogs may appear lethargic, remain hidden, are easily excitable, or have a loss of appetite. In the next 3 weeks, dogs will be actively developing a routine, and new personality traits may appear as stress levels decrease. During this period, it is recommended that adopters limit the dog's exposure to new people and places as they adjust and keep them in a crate or designated quiet room when left alone. Time outside of the home should be short, and crowds or loud noise should be avoided. After 3 months, a bond has developed between the dogs and their new family, and the animal should appear more comfortable in unfamiliar situations. Story
I’m not a fan of cats, so I would prefer to live in a home without any. Dogs are usually tested with other dogs their size, and we encourage meet-and-greets with your dog before adoption. Cat tests are available if requested, but they only check for clear aggression. Always be careful when introducing dogs to cats. Advice about dogs living with children is based on behavior like energy level and how the dog handles touch. Young children should never be left alone with dogs, and we cannot guarantee how any dog will behave with kids or other pets. Behavior seen in the shelter is just a snapshot and may change in a home. Dogs come from many backgrounds and may need training, time, and patience. Dogs should not be fed together unless you know they do not guard food. We also suggest learning about a dog's breed or mix to be sure it fits your family. Moving to a new home can be stressful for dogs. Use the Rule of 3 to help them adjust: First 3 days: Dogs may feel scared, tired, overexcited, or not want to eat. First 3 weeks: Dogs start learning routines and may show new behaviors. Keep things calm and avoid busy places. First 3 months: Dogs usually feel settled and more comfortable.
