Story
Cookie is an 8-yearold pure-bred Catahoula Leopard Dog. We adopted her from a rescue near Greenville, NC when she was 1 year old. She had been found abandoned in Louisiana after a Hurricane. She is physically healthy except she recently developed a joint issue with one of her back legs which may require surgery to correct. She is very loving toward my wife and me but very wary of strangers. She enjoys being outside and specially loves chasing squirrels with our other 3 dogs. Cookie has anxiety issues and is especially afraid of gunshots and thunder. She also has a very high prey-attack instinct, and this is unfortunately why we need to re-home her. Recently she attacked our smaller dog; she bit its head and wouldn't let go. It took us several minutes to get her to release, but fortunately the other dog survived. We think she would be suitable for a home with no other dogs, or one that is larger than she is.

Story
Birdie is highly intelligent, and pays attention to everything that goes on around her. She loves sniff walks, and playing inside and outside. She has a range of vocalizations, and communicates in many adorable ways. After she's had her fun, she's a big snuggler. She'll come up and softly put her paw on your foot to say hi. She knows basic commands and more, and she is gentle around food. As a Corgi, Birdie barks to let you know what she sees and hears. We've found ways to help her bark less, but it's still an issue at times. Birdie was well-socialized as a puppy, and as a small dog she learned to assert herself. One day she realized she could assert herself any time, and she had several negative encounters with other dogs. She has never hurt another dog, and we are continuing to work with a trainer to help her get away from that reactive behavior.

Story
Chance is a 93lb lap dog. He loves EVERYBODY! Great natured. Very passive. Gets along great with kids n pets of all ages. We started fostering him for our niece n ended up keeping him. Been with us for 5 years. He's 6. He MUST go to a loving home. He'd rather get love than a treat. Loves to play "retrieve the ball." Sometimes reluctant to bring it back though but he will eventually. Lol If he does bring it back, just say "leave it" n he'll usually drop it. He's house broken and loves to lay around outside in the sun but IS basically an inside dog. He knows general commands, sit, come, go nite nite, n place. (His spot on the couch). Mention "go bye bye" n you'll see excitement. He's chocolate brown with a white angel on his chest. He eats twice a day. 8am n 5pm. We're moving to an apartment n can't have him there. Too big. NOT a good guard dog but will alarm if someone pulls up or knocks. He'd be your own big ole teddy bear. U will NEVER regret adopting this big ole baby.

Story
Warning: High levels of cuteness ahead! Frankie and Cooper are officially accepting applications for a new manager of their very exclusive fan club. Frankie (pictured on right) is a 9 year old, 11.8 pound Yorkie, Dachshund, and Chihuahua Mix who believes walks are one of life’s greatest joys. She struts nicely on a leash, greets the world with confidence, and is always ready to hop into your lap for cuddle duty. Frankie is friendly, outgoing, and very serious about quality snuggle time. Cooper (pictured on left) is a 10 year old, 10.2 pound purebred (we believe) Yorkie who prefers to observe the world before fully participating. He is a bit shy at first, but food is the fastest way to his heart. Cooper loves being outside, keeping an eye on squirrels, and enjoying the fresh air. Once he trusts you, he is a loyal little shadow. These two are a bonded pair and take their partnership seriously. They enjoy cozy naps, especially when tucked under blankets together. They are house trained, vaccinated, altered, and are looking for a calm home with no other dogs. A fenced yard is required so Cooper can patrol for squirrels while Frankie supervises. They have not been around small children and would do best in a quieter home with someone active enough to take them on daily walks. If your life is missing double the love and double the charm, Frankie and Cooper are ready to fill that space. Interested in adopting these two? Story
Meet Feller — a shy guy with a heart of gold! Feller may take a little time to warm up, but once he knows you, he is an absolute sweetheart. He came from a home where he was kept outdoors and never left the property, so the big wide world is still pretty new to him. Because of that, Feller is continuing to build his confidence and social skills with both people and other dogs—and he’s already making wonderful progress! Feller would do best in a quiet, low-traffic home environment where he can feel safe, decompress, and build trust at his own pace. So far, he has done well with calm, respectful dogs who give him space and don’t play too rough. With people, he appreciates patience and kindness, and it’s been amazing to see how much he’s opened up in just a few short days. When he trusts you, his gentle and loving personality truly shines. This sweet boy thrives with another calm, social dog who can show him the ropes and reassure him that the world isn’t such a scary place. He takes cues beautifully and finds comfort in having a steady canine friend by his side. Feller is crate trained, vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He’s looking for a loving home that will give him the time, understanding, and calm environment he needs to keep blossoming into the confident companion we know he can be. Want to meet Feller and fall in love with his sweet self? Submit a no-obligation adoption application at www.AlmostHomeDogRescueNC.com, and one of our adoption coaches will reach out to tell you all about him! Story
If brains, heart, and potential were awards, Bubba would be taking home trophies already! This handsome Lab Mix is super smart—and we mean genius-level impressive. Within just two days, Bubba mastered sit, down, watch, place, and wait. Yep… two days. Bubba is crate trained, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and neutered, so he’s already got the responsible-adult stuff covered. He came from a hoarding property where he lived outdoors, and because of that, he’s still learning the finer points of dog-to-dog play. So far, he’s done great with medium to large dogs, especially those who are calm and respectful. What Bubba needs now is simple: patience, kindness, and quality time. Give him that, and you’ll be rewarded with an incredibly loyal, eager-to-learn companion who is going to make an amazing dog for the right family. He’s the kind of pup who just wants to belong—and once he does, he’ll shine. Bubba thrives with another calm, social dog who can show him the ropes and reassure him that the world isn’t such a scary place. He takes cues beautifully and finds comfort in having a steady canine friend by his side. Ready to meet Bubba and fall in love?
