Story
Cain is a 3.5-year-old, strikingly handsome boy who has already endured more than his fair share. When he came into the care of the Athens County Humane Society, he was in rough shape with wounds along his back and the scars of having spent most of his life on a chain. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers and the staff at the Athens County Dog Shelter and his amazing foster home, Cain has started to heal and learn what kindness feels like.At his first vet visit, we also discovered that Cain is heartworm positive. While heartworm is a serious condition, Cain is receiving the treatment he needs. The process carries risks, but he has shown remarkable strength and resilience already. After everything he’s overcome, Cain deserves the safety and love of a forever home. He would do best as the only pet, though he does enjoy side-by-side walks with other dogs. More than anything, Cain needs a home where he can finally experience the life every dog deserves, safe, cared for, and deeply loved. If you are interested in meeting this wonderful boy, submit an application to athenshumane.org/adopt.

Story
This sweet boy is Joe. Exact birthdate is 5/2/19. He does well with the other dogs he is currently around, but new dog tolerance is unknown. Approximately 50-60lbs. Cream/light apricot color. He has mostly been an outside dog, so he is not housebroken. He is microchipped. He has been around kids ages 6-10 and does completely fine with them. He is a multi-generation Goldendoodle. His shedding level, with a longer coat, is moderate to low.

Story
Lola is a 4 year old hound who needs a patient and loving home. She’s affectionate, cuddly, and enjoys being around her family or other dogs. Lola has spent most of her life in a home and is happiest when she has some company nearby. I deeply believe Lola would do best with an owner who has experience with dogs or is commited to continue working on training her. She is very vocal when left alone because of her separation anxiety, so she most likely will not be the best fit for a home where she will be left by herself for a long time. Lola is very good motivated, or centered. She will investigate and steal food from any plates unattended or pantry doors left open. She would benefit most from CONSISTENT boundaries and POSITIVE reinforcement training. We sadly have to put Lola up for adoption due to an upcoming cross country move. We’re looking for a home that can provide the time, attention, and stability she deserves. We know she would thrive with someone who can give her love.

Story
5yo Australian Shepherd seeking a loving home. Previous owners report he did well with cats/children. When initially coming to us, he showed anxiety during transition while wearing a cone to heal from an injury. A few stressful moments during led to teeth contact early on (strangers getting too close to his face right away), though no injury or so much as broken skin occurred. Asa has warmed up to us well and we have had no issues in the months since. He responds very well to training, knows "leave it," and rings his doorbell to potty, but is too curious to get along with our cats. High energy, smart, affectionate, and eager to please. Loves belly rubs, cuddles, treats, running, and catching toys. Great in the car, at the vet, and not destructive. He is potty, leash, and crate trained. This sweet boy needs a loving family to help him thrive.

Story
Meet Louie, a gentle and affectionate senior pup with a heart of gold. With a calm and loving nature, Louie is the perfect companion for cozy nights on the couch and leisurely walks in the park. He's friendly and gentle, always ready to offer a listening ear and a warm snuggle. Louie is a true gentleman, and though he may be a bit older, he still has a lot of love to give and adventures to embark on. He's looking for a family to call his own and a cozy spot to rest his golden years. Could you be the one to offer Louie a second chance at happiness?

Story
This gorgeous, silly girl is Tink! Some of Tink's favorite things to do is... - Run around the yard💐 - Play any chance she gets🏈 - Sing🎶 - And get all the attention she possibly can❤️ She is ready for her new forever home!! Tink does well with other dogs but with cats she tends to a little too rough. She loves to adventure and use her nose but tends to let her nose get the best of her. Tink would make an AMAZING family dog with people who will love her and play with her.
