Cain is a 3.5-year-old, strikingly handsome boy who has already endured more than his fair share. When he came into the care of the Athens County Humane Society, he was in rough shape with wounds along his back and the scars of having spent most of his life on a chain. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers and the staff at the Athens County Dog Shelter and his amazing foster home, Cain has started to heal and learn what kindness feels like.At his first vet visit, we also discovered that Cain is heartworm positive. While heartworm is a serious condition, Cain is receiving the treatment he needs. The process carries risks, but he has shown remarkable strength and resilience already. After everything he’s overcome, Cain deserves the safety and love of a forever home. He would do best as the only pet, though he does enjoy side-by-side walks with other dogs. Story

Igor is a 4-year-old Shepherd/Malinois mix (he's a rescue, so I'm not sure of his exact breed). He is the sweetest, most loving, loyal, and playful dog, and I'm looking for the perfect home where he can thrive. I am rehoming him **solely because of my personal circumstances**. I'll be starting medical school soon and won't be able to give him the time, exercise, and attention he deserves. Igor does great with other dogs and is friendly with strangers and other dogs on walks. He's also wonderful with kids. The only exception is that he **cannot live in a home with cats**. At home, Igor is naturally protective and will bark when someone arrives at the front door or driveway, but once properly introduced, he's a sweet and affectionate companion. He would be the perfect dog for someone looking for a loyal best friend and an adventure buddy. He needs long walks or a big backyard, and someone who will give him a lot of exercise, love and time! He is the perfect companion and protector!

Kahlua is an amazing pup, she is the sweetest girl. She loves to play, cuddle and pretend she’s a lap dog. She is going through the process of potty training and learning basic commands. She is 4 months old and will steal your heart. Unfortunately we are looking for a new home for her due to our Rottweiler not getting along with her. She does great with people and animals of all kinds! We don’t want her to get hurt in anyway shape or form. She is purebred and comes from a champion line. I have all of her paperwork AKC registration and everything! For us to purchase her she was $3500. Please help us find her a loving home!!! I am open to lowering the cost of her but I want to ensure she goes to her furever home!

Everyone meet Garth. I am so sad to even be writing this, but I am looking for a loving home for this sweet boy. I adopted him from our local shelter about 6 years ago, and he has been such a wonderful dog. I recently started having children, and with two babies under two and two dogs, life got crazy. My other dog has adjusted just fine, but Garth is just not happy. He went from snuggling in my bed every night, to getting little to no attention from me. I feel so horrible but I just can’t give him what he deserves. He is very clingy, and needs someone who can be with him often. All he wants to do is snuggle on the couch, and he loves a good night in with a movie and a blanky! He really is the sweetest boy ever and I hope I can find him a home where he can be happy. He is about 8 years old.

Lola is a 4 year old hound who needs a patient and loving home. She’s affectionate, cuddly, and enjoys being around her family or other dogs. Lola has spent most of her life in a home and is happiest when she has some company nearby. I deeply believe Lola would do best with an owner who has experience with dogs or is commited to continue working on training her. She is very vocal when left alone because of her separation anxiety, so she most likely will not be the best fit for a home where she will be left by herself for a long time. Lola is very good motivated, or centered. She will investigate and steal food from any plates unattended or pantry doors left open. She would benefit most from CONSISTENT boundaries and POSITIVE reinforcement training. We sadly have to put Lola up for adoption due to an upcoming cross country move. We’re looking for a home that can provide the time, attention, and stability she deserves. We know she would thrive with someone who can give her love.
