Story
Hi! I’m Gumbo!I’m about 12 weeks old, which means I’m supposed to only know things like toys and naps and how fast I can zoom in a straight line. Instead, my brother Gazpacho and I were found abandoned at Independence Dam State Park. We were in pretty rough shape and were missing patches of fur and definitely needed some help. I didn’t feel very good, and I didn’t look my best either. But I’m still just a puppy. I still wanted to wag my tail. I still wanted someone to notice me.Luckily for us, we were brought to some really nice people that love animals and were able to help us! Now I have warm meals, soft blankets, and people who are helping my coat grow back in. I’m starting to understand that life isn’t always cold and confusing. Sometimes it’s gentle hands and kind voices.I’m still healing, but I’m also still hopeful. I like to explore. I like to be close. I like to believe my very best days are ahead of me.I’m ready to find a home where I can grow up the way a puppy should, safe, loved, and never left behind again.

Hi, I’m Gazpacho!I’m about 12 weeks old, and my brother and I were found at Independence Dam State Park after being left behind. We were missing patches of fur and definitely needed some help, but luckily we were brought to the safety of FDHS for a fresh start!I’m still a puppy through and through. I love exploring new smells, I get the cutest little zoomies, and I’m very interested in making friends. I can be a tiny bit shy at first, but once I know I’m safe, my tail starts working overtime. Since coming here, I’ve had warm meals, medicine, and lots of TLC. My fur is slowly growing back in, and every day I feel a little bit better and more like myself.I’m ready for the good part of my story now. A forever home where I can grow up, play hard, nap harder, and never worry about being left behind again.

Story
Pho is a brand new little face at FDHS, and she came to us after being found abandoned at Independence Dam State Park in pretty rough shape. Her skin and coat showed clear signs of long term neglect, and it’s obvious she hasn’t had the easiest start. The surprising part? You would never know it.Pho is hardly more than a puppy herself and is a complete ray of sunshine. From the moment she arrived, she’s been sweet, gentle, and so eager to connect. She greets other dogs with happy nose boops and a tail that doesn't stop wagging. And that little smile? It’s perfect. She has been an absolute angel for her caregivers and we are all obsessed with her. Her beautiful coat will take some time to fully grow back in, but she’s already blossoming with proper care, good meals, and kindness.Pho is officially searching for her forever family, and we know whoever takes a chance on this little lady is going to be incredibly lucky.

Story
🐾 Meet Stewie! 🐾Stewie is an energetic little terrier — exactly which kind is still up in the air! He could be a West Highland White Terrier, a Norwich Terrier, a Cairn Terrier, or (most likely) a mix of a few of them. Whatever the blend, it equals one adorable, scruffy bundle of personality! We estimate Stewie to be about 2–4 years old, and here’s what we know for sure:💛 Amazing with people👶 Great with kids🐶 Dog-friendly🐱 Cat-friendlyHe’s mostly potty trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside. Any occasional accidents may be helped once he’s neutered — and good news, he’s scheduled to be neutered on March 12.✂️ Stewie will require regular grooming, so future adopters should be prepared to keep up with brushing and trims — whether that’s DIY or budgeting for a groomer. Now let’s talk terrier traits!Terriers are:🔔 Known for barking (it comes with the territory!)⚡ Full of cute, wiggly energy🧠 Smart — and sometimes a little stubborn😉 Likely to test you just to see if they canStewie is looking for someone who appreciates that spunky terrier spirit and is ready to channel his smarts into fun training and adventures.💲 Adoption fee: $250If you’re ready for a lively, loving, scruffy sidekick, Stewie might just be your guy! 🐾💕You can stop into the shelter 12- 5 pm Monday through Friday or 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday to meet him but we will need an approved application before moving forward. Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before we close to ensure we have time to do the adoption. We're open Monday through Friday 12-5 pm and Saturday 11-3 pm. We're located at 9331 State Route 124 Hillsboro, OH. Our adoption is open and easy, please come to the shelter to meet the animals in person to adopt.
